  1. Thanks for the replies. I hope I get my TIPI soon so I can check these options out.
  2. Great. I will try it once I get my TIPI/32 installed.
  3. Thanks, I don't plan on buying many cartridges. Save my money for the FinalGROM99. 🙂 That said, I do have some educational titles coming. Maybe I will get lucky and one of them will use it.
  4. I received a speech synthesizer module today. Disappointed that I couldn’t test it using standard BASIC. Are there any programs I will be able to load once I get my TIPI/32k that would use it? if not I can always put my TIPI/32k in it until I get a FinalGROM99.
  5. Arcade shopper could give give the definitive answer, but from the demos I’ve viewed it doesn’t need anything else to load and save files. Adding a FinalGROM99 adds a little more functionality, but I will have to see if I really need it before deciding to purchase. I downloaded the TIPI image today and put it on a 32GB micro SD card. I am ready as soon as the TIPI/32k arrives.
  6. Thanks for the answer. Just tried it...worked great!
  7. Didn’t do a lot today. Used a wet wipe to clean the top of the good unit and the keyboard. They were somewhat disgusting. Wrapping the wet wipe around the end of a screwdriver let me clean between keys. I only have the book “Kids and the TI-994a” so I did some of the examples in it. I do have a question though. Is there a way to edit a line without typing the whole thing over?
  8. Good suggestion. I will save my money for the FinalGROM99 and put extended BASIC on it. I will probably try several languages to see which I like best.
  9. My first computer was a VIC20 in 1981 or 1982. I bought it used. It came with a cartridge port extender, 16k ram module, tape recorder, and a lot of tapes with pirated software. I still have all of it. I need to get it out and see if it still works. I am not interested in reliving the long load and save times of tape storage, although it might be nice to show my grandkids. LOL
  10. Ok, didn’t see the x in the corner before. Hard to see on my iPad. Order placed. Thanks for your help.
  11. OK, I decided to buy the TIPI 32k and Pi W, but I accidentally put one with and one without in my cart. Is there a way to clear my cart and start over? Also, I tried the one with the junk on screen again and now it works except there is a slight hum through the monitor and the keyboard isn’t working totally. Oh, I also noticed there is a place for a coupon code on your site. You wouldn’t consider providing me one, would you. it is late. Take this up tomorrow, but thanks for all your help.
  12. How much is that? I see a $60 option that I thought was just the bare PCB. If that is assembled and I get 32k memory expansion plus the TIPI, I am ready to buy. I have a couple of Raspberry PIs and SD cards I was playing with last year. I might need a cable to go between the TIPI and PI.
  13. I was interested in that, but I only see the PCB. Am I missing an entry for the assembled version?
  14. LOL, didn’t notice your name. When I was looking a few days ago, it seemed like a lot of things were out of stock. Just looked and most now seem available. I am wondering if the nanoPEB would be a good option for me since it combines 32k expansion and ability to load and save. Seems a lot cheaper than buying 32k and TIPI. If I buy that and later a FinalGROM99 wouldn’t that do everything I want? I have several CF cards that aren’t being used now.
  15. Thanks. I guess I need to repair and sell a couple of systems to fund buying a FinalGROM99, memory, and card reader. I hope arcade shopper gets more in. There is a guy on eBay selling FlashGROM99s, but I think the FinalGROM is worth the extra cost. The 32k plus TIPI board looks interesting if they ever offer assembled versions.
  16. ok, I have looked at the FAQ, but I have looked at so much information that I got confused. I just want to play around with this machine and try writing some software for it without spending a lot. No PEB. Where I am confused is with the best options. If the FinalGROM99 doesn’t save files, I guess I need to look for either one of the CF card options or the TIPI. If I get a 32k memory upgrade and a way to load and save programs, does the FinalGRAM99 add anything as far a capability?
  17. OK, first...I should stop watching retro computer topics on youtube! LOL I watched a few on the TI99/4a and became intrigued. My first computer was a VIC20. Even with the price difference, it seems like the TI should have won out. More columns and rows on screen. True graphics modes and SPRITES! 16 vs 5k. Only down side I see is that the keyboard layout sort of sucks. Don't get upset, this is based on about 15 minutes with it. Definitely will take some getting used to. I now own 4 of these. The first is a beige unit that I paid $5.50 plus shipping for. It is really rusty, so I haven't tried it. Will have to tear it down, clean it up, and check voltages before even considering powering it up. Then I won an auction for 3 black and silver units, with power bricks for about %50 plus about $26 shipping. I tested the power bricks and they all seem fine. Since the ad indicated that they had all been tested to turn on, I figured any damage from overvoltage, etc. would already have occurred. So today I decided to test them. The first one came on but shows total garbage in the screen. I need to test if the garbage is always the same and post a screen shot. The second one shows the startup screen and goes to BASIC when 1 is pressed, but a lot of the keys don't work. I figure the first thing is to take the keyboard apart, clean and inspect. The third one seems to work! I was able to get into BASIC and run a few simple programs. They are all dirty, but I don't want to take the working one apart until I have a second one working. I have looked at memory and other options, most of which seem to be out of stock a arcadeshopper.com. I just want to be able to run some programs and try some programming at a minimal cost. So I have some questions. Doses the FinalGROM99 cart allow saving files? Does it require a memory upgrade? What upgrades would you suggest> Preferably ones that are available now. I think I want to buy the Atari joystick adapter from arcadeshopper, unless their is a better option. Please point me to resources on programming BASIC, assembler, FORTH or Pascal.
  18. I downloaded both. I didn’t see much difference, so I use RespeQT as it is newer.
  19. I just got a whole bunch of books, plus a couple of old magazines. Most of the books are programming related. I hope to get into them when I have time this winter.
  20. Bump, I edited and changed prices.
  21. I have two extra 1050 drives I would like to sell because I have one now with a Happy enhancement. I bought both of these from eBay listed as untested for parts or repair. One turned out to work and the other I repaired. The one I repaired has a new pressure pad and 74LS74 chip. Both have been tested using the 1050 diagnostics program as well as testing formatting, writing, reading disks. Tested reading disks formatted with other drives, so alignment should be good. Asking $70 plus shipping for each. I have the shield off the one I worked on. I could install a Happy enhancement in it before putting it back together for an extra $45. If bought as is, I will reinstall the shield.
  22. I have a 1050 that I changed the FDC to test and then found the 74LS74 was bad. I guess I should put th3 original FDC back in even though it seems to be working fine? I was thinking about doing so anyway just to make sure it works and, if it does, keep the newer known working one. If the old one doesn’t,t work I will try following the instructions given here.
  23. You need a line number. You cannot go to a line number in immediate mode. I tested on my 130XE and it works fine in a program.
  24. Yes, plus I learned a lot and had some fun. Now I have to decide what to do with the extras.
  25. I finally got in some 74SL74 chips today. I had previously replaced U21 and the pressure pad. With a new U18, 74SL74, the drive now works great. So now I have 3 functioning drives, one with the Happy upgrade.
