  1. Very good, Curt, very good!
  2. Just found out about this game today, actually. I hear it is a great game in the XBox One's quiver.
  3. What Flo said: When is it slated for release? With the numbers that the Analogue N/T did, there is certainly a market. Now that the N/T is sold out (along with those crazy expensive gold ones), the AVS should do some good business with those who missed out on the N/T, or those like you who were waiting for the AVS all along. Analogue is still getting tweets/Facebook messages about purchasing N/Ts, and they have to reluctantly turn people away. Though I went with the N/T, I do enjoy RetroUSB products, especially their holiday carts!
  4. The AVS appears in photos (again, don't know if that will be the final design or if the pics are accurate) be longer than the N/T and, yes, that is a deal breaker for my entertainment center. Not sure where the "cheap, plastic" comment comes from, as I am sure you know what the N/T is made of!
  5. I also like the design of the N/T much better than the AVS. Also, I know the design for the AVS is probably not final, but as of right now, it looks like that the N/T is also smaller than the AVS. Where I play my N/T, entertainment center space is at a premium. Lastly, Analogue's customer service has been impeccable, so if the N/T ever breaks down, they will be fixing it at no cost in the foreseeable future. BUT, I think multiple options for HD NES is good for everyone and the market...and who knows, may catch Nintendo's attention.
  6. I went with the Analogue N/T. Absolutely love my decision! My NES games haven't looked this good since 1990...it really has revitalized my NES gaming on my HD TVs and makes my games feel brand new again! Will be interesting to see how this one you showed from RetroUSB stacks up against the Analogue.
  7. Thanks for the input, guys. Sounds like my best option is to contact Bruce at B&C to see what he would like for me to do. Yes, on his eBay listing for the XEGS, he offers a 90 warranty on it. Thankfully! I do not feel comfortable opening it up and poking through it, so I will wind up having to send it back to him. Man, and I was just getting started!
  8. Hi all, I am extremely new to Atari 8-bits. I just received a XEGS from B&C yesterday, hooked it up last night, and everything seemed fine. Today, I started messing around in Atari Basic that comes included when one attaches a keyboard. I was running through some of the exercises in the XEGS keyboard manual, and for the first half hour, everything was going great. I stepped away from the XEGS for about 10 minutes to attend to something, and when I came back, the XEGS was cycling through different colors, which I assume is a screen saver of some sort. Anyway, after that, the Basic on the XEGS kept glitching (as in showing characters/symbols on the screen I did not input) and then outright locking up with no sound, no cursor, and no way to clear the screen. I have to turn the power on and off to reset the Basic on the XEGS, and then it works for a few minutes but then starts the same problems again. I did the self test and both ROM rectangles turn "green," all 48 of the RAM squares are "green," and Missile Command plays fine. Right now, I have turned off the XEGS, unplugged the keyboard, and unplugged the AC Adaptor from the wall. Any thoughts on what is going on with my Basic? B&C has a 90 day warranty, but I was curious if this is common, or if I need to send back to Bruce? Any ideas of troubleshooting appreciated!
  9. Awesome info in this thread! I just had my first experience buying from Bruce on eBay (got a XEGS from him) and it was a pleasure doing business with him. He even threw in a free Star Raiders cart and manual since my shipment was delayed. Great guy! Thanks for sharing this inside scoop!
  10. I actually opted for the XEGS simply for it being a "newer machine" with newer parts and because of the ease of hooking it up to any modern TV. I am not a tinkerer or modder, so I am going all stock for my machine. From what I have read, the XEGS is the only one that has the phono RCA/composite video output, right? Or do any of the other units come with stock phono composite outputs? I guess the other reason I bought the XEGS is the fact I can detach the keyboard and just hook up the main unit for some family gaming on the fly. This is my first foray into Atari 8 bit, so if I enjoy the XEGS, I can see myself going down the road of your recommendations and buying a 130 XE or 800 XL.
  11. The pin post actually DOES answer your question, as the guys replying to it are updating the pinned post with the newest info regarding their BBSes. Their are multiple posts from the SysOps from this year alone. Have a look at that pinned post and enjoy!
  12. I am also actually close to "taking the plunge." I have never used an Atari 8-bit. We had a Tandy back in the 80s, and I moved from the Tandy directly to a 386 SX IBM-compatible PC in the very early 90s. So, I am very much learning about the Atari 8-bits in the last week or so. I think I am leaning towards a XEGS given that I primarily want to game, the ease of using the composite phono jack, and the fact that XEGS components are the "latest" of the bunch. Besides gaming as the prime motive, some secondary hobbies are possibly learning BASIC and trying to do some easy programming, and also dialing into one of the BBS systems that the pinned topic talks about above. I wanted to use real Atari hardware to do that! My current background in vintage computing is a recent hobby with the Mattel Aquarius computer. I figure that the supposed "mushy" keyboard of the XEGS is still a step up from the chiclet-style keyboard of the Aquarius, so it (the mushy XEGS keyboard) more than likely won't be a complaint for me! Anyway, not to totally hijack the OPs thread, but I was also looking for input on whether the XEGS would be a good entry point to the Atari 8-bit line...I have no desire to "mod" or mess with the insides of a computer just yet, so the whole "socketed vs. unsocketed" really doesn't bother me too much right now. Thoughts?
  13. Not sure if this adds anything to this long topic, but I got a Patreon email today from Nintendo Force Magazine and they say they are "partnering" with Retro this month to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Zelda. They then promoted Retro pretty heavily and said issue 11 is on sale now, and for being a Nintendo Force sub, here is a free code for issue 11. I guess one of the writers for NF also writes for Kennedy at Retro. Just an FYI for anyone interested in the "Mike Kennedy Watch" this week!
  14. I, personally, love my Colecovision Flashback! I didn't realize it got bad reviews.
  15. Guybrush Kennedy: "What? Prototype? No, no...but I am selling these fine leather jackets..."
  16. I went to the Galloping Ghost last June. My mom lives in Chicagoland and is not far from Brookfield. The place is absolutely amazing. Some obscure games in there that I hadn't played since 1989 or 1990 and had totally forgotten about (looking at you, Sega's Wrestle War!). Wife, kids, and I are visiting her again around Memorial Day, and Galloping Ghost is on the list again!
  17. PlayingWithWolves just hit the nail on the head. Thanks for finding that post from PiperCub to help us remember that there are more stakeholders in this than just Mike Kennedy!
  18. I don't know if he is an "epic hack" just because he didn't really enjoy your game...but I do know he can rub people the wrong way. I enjoy him for what he does, but I don't always agree with him.
  19. Ah, going to miss you! I am going tomorrow (Sunday). I am also a red head. I plan to wear a yellow Donkey Kong shirt, so if anyone sees a red head with that shirt on, I am 99% sure that will be me....feel free to stop me and say HI.
  20. I can attest to this, as I just recently hooked up my Sega Master System for the first time in 10 years. I forgot how long the AC adapter and RF cable were...crap! And, I must say, I love it...makes it easier to move the console around or get around back with so much slack. The XBox 360 cords are probably the worst in this regard. PS, anyone in Louisville this weekend for the Louisville Arcade Expo? I am driving down tomorrow for the morning and early afternoon. I am hoping to catch Billy Mitchell at his panel discussion at noon, but if any of you are there, we can talk "Chameleon!"
  21. RetroGametube85? Yeah, that is what I hypothesized too since RGT85 fired a shot at Pat earlier this week even before the DVR card prototype. I still think Pat was firing at him mostly since he directly popped off at Pat, but I could see where Gamester81 thought it was him being referenced. Either way, seems like we may have a rift in our community on hand due to one Mike Kennedy.
  22. Ah, so this guy finally ponies up and apologizes. Pat called this guy out as one of the "fluffers" of the Chamleon. In fact, if you see his prior Coleco Chamleon video a few days ago, he took a shot at Pat for calling him out (he references a "cool dude" who gives work out tips, and then he talks about who he is talking about in the comments of the video). So, for Pat's quick video today about all of the people shilling for the Chamleon, I know most people assumed it was towards Engadget and the like, but I think it is pretty apparent that Pat was definitely hitting back at this guy, RetroTube85 or whatever his handle is. I am glad to see he is fessing up and apologizing. Mike could learn something from RT85.
  23. I will try to be there. I live in Walton, Kentucky, which is a southern 'burb of Cincinnati. The drive is only about an hour and 20 minutes. Don't know if I will go down Friday night, or do it Saturday during the day yet. I have to see if my wife wants to come...but we have very little ones, so she may not be too excited about hauling them around while I get to play!
  24. What?! I hadn't heard that. Where did he post it at, as I really don't see mention of it on The Place's Facebook page. I had read on the FB that he wanted to move to a bigger location at some point. Man, I hope he doesn't close for good...such a great place to escape the modern world and really feel like you have been transported to the 1980s! If you decide to do the fundraiser, I will chip in. Cincinnati needs places like this. EDIT: Sorry for going off topic for a sec, fellas.
  25. Thanks for checking in, Willie! Love your ColecoVisions podcast, and also your contributions to Ferg's 2600 podcast. But I really LOVE your Arcade USA show. Until I watched your show, I had no idea about The Place here in Cincinnati. Thank you for that, as I have been a few times now. Did you hear Cary got an ultra rare Slap Jack cab? Only two are known to exist in the world, and one is here in Cincy at The Place. He just got it, so you may have to do another visit to our area to check it out! Anyway, hopefully all of this drama with Mike and the Chameleon is not getting you down too much. Keep on "keepin' on," man!
