That is my kind of mess. How long did it take you to get so many games? And really, isn't it nice just to look at them? I often do that, before I go to bed, I stare at my old Atari VCS that I got as a gift in 1983! and my XEGS and the games, about 180 of them all neatly stacked and organized by company in a nice glass cabinet, and wonder, gee, 2 years ago I had not 1 game! ... now look what I have created.....and nobody, nobody appreciates it Its good no?

Can an Atati joystick be used on the computer?
Stella'sGhost replied to General Atarian's topic in Atari 2600
Blah! I rememberd about the PIA chip after I typed my stupid question. -
Figures! Did you tell the guy you needed a TV/Game switch?? I doubt they would have known it even if you showed them a picture. Doorknobs! I dont know where you can get one, I got one at an electronics surplus type of store. Am I nuts or did I see one at Walmart last week?

Stella'sGhost replied to General Atarian's topic in Atari 2600
Exactly, I was thinking of analog to digital converters and didn't realize that the pins on the joystick ports go right to the PIA - 6532- . I knew this, I should have just skipped this thread. -
Can an Atati joystick be used on the computer?
Stella'sGhost replied to General Atarian's topic in Atari 2600
Yes i see what you mean, I guess I did misunderstand what he was getting at and I was also thinking of more modern computers not applying them to the Atari correctly.... should have re read my post too....I meant to say one thing and it came out wrong because I had the word "Atari" in there instead of PCin one place... whatever!! You said it better anyways.... : I normally do make sense when I post, I do! So I have deleted it so as not to confuse anyone or me for that matter! -
Nintendo is #1 world wide for popularity, it has been for a long time. Atari was probably #1 or #2 here in america in the late 70's and through most of the 80's, but not anymore of course. The market is bigger today than it was back then, but its not just because of the cold war ending.. I mean how many people in the former Russia have a playstation?? Or in China? I can't imagine there is a huge market over there for high end game systems, who can afford a 75$ game over in former Russia or in the freed Eastern Block countries??? I could be wrong, but I don't think I'm off the mark by much. Probably a limited, maybe big, underground market for games there no doubt.

Oh I know the idea of Atari coming out with a console is nonsense but its a dream we all have had..... that and the dream about a giant bowl of donuts... on the other hand, Atari was always known for making bad decisions and lousy marketing... so why stop now when Atari is but a mere shadow of its past???
-
I have not heard of a single rumor, and if its true, I'll eat a giant bowl of donuts. Of course NES did a bit more with 8 bit, they had several years advantage as you mentioned as well as a very solid financial backing from a company that was already about 100 years old when Atari was founded....

I can think of about 450 games that are as pointless. I dont' think there are any real fans of this game. I like it however, as I've said before, its dark, its a cavern, its a dark cavern. However I can not play this game for long because there is no ending, whats the point? Reminds me of asteroids, though I think asteroids is better, Berzerk is better too, but not by much. On this level the game does resemble life, there is no point, but you just keep on going anyways. I want an ending damn it! Lights flashing, some girl dancing on the screen, THE END flashing on the screen, Something, anything!

At work my custom status on all my in house emails is: "All your Sim are belong to us" Sim is short for Simulations which is what I design in Flash. I'm sure some staff didn't get it.
-
Yeah, I got it backwards, so my post from above is backwards... I made Mission Sp, and I can't remember if I made Pilot, its been too long. Its a very tough "game" to master.

That is kooky.

Which (if not all) Zellers games are ripoffs?
Stella'sGhost replied to MegaManFan's topic in Atari 2600
Check this out: http://www.atariage.com/company_page.html?...00&CompanyID=61 I read that Inca Gold is most likely a copy of Funvisions Spider Kong. I seriously doubt that Zellers had produced an original game. I like the cartridge art on the Zellers games, really cool, I'd get em just for that. Inca Gold, Time Warp and Space Adventure have the best art work of all the Zellers games, I think. I have 3 so far, they are hard to find, even right here in Canada. -
You know, I took a look at the manual again for fun and I did make it past Pilot, I made it to Payload Specialist, maybe even higher, but I can't remember, I only know that I had spent alot of time on this game. I can't find some of my overlays, I only have the one describing the six parts of the mission :launch, oribit, docking, deorbit burn,re-entry, final approach. This one is meant to be like a quick reference guide and you are supposed to lay it down on the atari itself. The other overlay was smaller and if I remember right it went right over just the switches of the atari, with holes for them and the cartridge so that you could easily see what switch did what. It kind of looked hi-tech like a control panel I think. There are probably pictures of it somewhere around here. They are made of cardboard, with several colors. Maybe you get a special screen if you make it to commander. Crap, now I'm going to have to solve this this week! I'll let you know what happens! Unless someone else knows......
-
I only ever made Pilot, but its been a very long time since I seriously attempted to make Commander, maybe 10 years. I think its supremely hard, but most likely doable, I can not offer any tips. I bought this game new in 198?, I still have the box, overlays and manuals. I played it for a long time, I couldn't believe this was the same atari that also had bowling...

I find the story of that swordquest comeptition really weird
Stella'sGhost replied to BoOchan!'s topic in Atari 2600
I thought it was a cool idea. Impossible to solve, we just gave up. Something that could have been good turned into something crapola. -
No, the P on the cartridges stand only for PAL. You find it often on PAL cartridges. Sometimes on the endlable, sometimes on the lable behind the number and sometimes a P sticker at the back from the case. So if you don't live in germany (a PAL country) its hard to get PAL games for you. I was being sarcastic, I know the P stands for Pal.....
-
maybe the P stands for Prototype ?.... haa haoo ho I crack myself up. I've never seen a cart like that.

Its not only made of Gold, it was blessed by the Pope and Elvis played it a few times.

Maybe he is from backwards world, where words are reversed so that in saying Huge, he really means Puny. I think I'm on to something....

HA! I was going to say the same thing, put the atari in a Casino beside the other slot machines games and some middle aged guy dressed like a shoe salesman in a green shirt with orange pants will like it. And yes, Slot Machine is as lame as it gets, almost as fun as Basic Math. I hope the guy who programmed this is now broke.

I've read this before, and I think its the most likely, for one thing, when Japanese (or anyone who is not well versed in English for that matter) translate phrases into English some funny word combinations come up that most of us would never think of using to describe something, such as Donkey = stubborn. I can think of many movies where the translation into English is hilarous, also there are Japanese manuals and instructions that are often confusing... but in a charming kind of way. However the point is made, though rather abstractly.. I have a magazine article/interview with the creator of PAC MAN - if I can find it, Ill post some more info about it, but as was mentioned you can find this stuff out on the net easy enough. I know of what I speak, for my first language is NOT English...

I think these carts will outlive us all....
