  1. Your post makes sense. It was most likely because they didn't want to spend time on it, costing more money in the end I imagine.
  2. I despise black bars. Like I said, it doesn't look stretched: it looks crisp as if it's being rendered in 1080p. This is why I want an FPGA system for all the old systems, because the picture in widescreen is superior to anything I've seen in 4:3 on a CRT.
  3. Wasn't that awesome when he asked his fans to pay for his Summer Vacation? Such a cool fella... irony
  4. Stretching. It doesn't look stretched though, it's so crisp that it looks like it's being rendered in widescreen.
  5. Thank you, eightbit for the cool post! It saddens me to see all these games go the way of the Dinosaur, but it's interesting none the less.
  6. This is why my Wii, WiiU, and Switch collections are so small. Past getting a few exclusives, they're just not worth it.
  7. I heard they charge for people to watch gameplay... is that true?
  8. I recently picked this up and haven't opened it yet. I hope that the sticks are programmed well. What I don't understand, is why in 2018, and for an "Anniversary Edition", it doesn't come with all the Expansions that were created from back in the day. Great, it has a new 5th Episode... what about all the other Expansion Episodes created from the past? They could have added all of it and made a major package. Either way, I hope it's good as I haven't gotten setup on the PC with newer engines, because it doesn't look as straight forward as running GZDoom for example. If anyone is experienced with that on the PC, I'd appreciate your insight. Thanks in advance.
  9. My Drive hasn't worked properly for over a year now. I can get Minecraft to work (it will crash randomly), but it will play for hours at a time sometimes... I imagine this is because the disc doesn't get read very often. What I don't understand is why replacing the drive is such a pain in the ass. Why do I have to "marry" the drive to the system? I need to get off my ass and figure this out, because I need to figure out which backup drives to purchase, for the future going forward. I'm sure this will happen again, even with a newer drive. I have a large Library so not having access to the BD is unacceptable going forward for the future. For those of you, who have commented in this thread, saying you're not buying a replacement machine, or messing with replacing/fixing your broken BD... I wonder, are you planning on selling your collections because of this hardware failure?
  10. I concur. I can understand the OP not liking it, because it is strange. I've only played the first one, haven't checked out the 2nd and 3rd iterations yet.
  11. Exactly... This is why I've stuck with DVDs and never went Blue Ray for movies. The main reason is because I can sample DVDs with ease for my Music Productions.
  12. Thanks for that heads-up! I suppose that means I'll need the updated version of the ROM, seeing as I don't collect cartridges any longer.
  13. I agree that the beginning on Survival mode can be an absolute bear. That is what made me fall in love with it though... I had to really work hard to get on my feet and build up some decent weapons and armor. Now I'm sitting at level 17 and I'm loving the hard work that I've put in. I've seen a lot of people say the Story is lackluster... I haven't made it to Diamond City yet, and I'm just about to clear out the Corvega Factory, so I'm really early in the story. I make my own side quests constantly, so I've been really busy with my playthrough thus far. I can understand why you say that... completely. In vanilla FO3 and FONV, one has to put a lot more thought into their character creation because there are limited levels to achieve. I'm sure there's a mod for the PC that restores that feel. Honestly, I love and appreciate the new approach of the endless (well, 270+) levels for FO4, because it gives me the freedom to play, and have fun, without worrying about how to acquire a full 10 for my SPECIAL, and also that I'll be able to get all the Perks eventually. To me, it's a welcome change from the stiff feel of the leveling from 3 & NV. I hear where you're coming from though, and I do agree. It's the same thing with not having to repair armor and weapons. In 3 & NV, it makes the game feel more 'RPGy', but it becomes a constant pain in the ass having to maintain everything. It is ironic that 'Survival' mode in FO4 didn't maintain this level of difficulty, considering how it makes sense that one would have to repair their items to keep them in working order... but I do appreciate the change-up, because it frees me to do other things with my time. Again, I'm sure there's a mod on the PC that can bring this mechanic back to FO4. Again, I can understand this. It does detract from the main point of the game, but I am really enjoying the building aspect. It gives me a ton of room to role play, and that is making my experience an extremely positive one. It looks so amazing. I will definitely have to get it in the future when it's all fixed up and ready to go. I literally waited until 2007 to play Morrowind on the PC, and I'm glad I did; because with mods, it made the game so much more amazing than the vanilla experience ever could have been. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, folks... I appreciate seeing what other Gamers think.
  14. A hot mess indeed... Ha! I imagine that Eternal will also be frantically fast like Doom 2016 is... I think it's too soon to make that call, just from the available demo. My two cents anyway. I loved the 'in your face' aspect of Doom 4, but it seems that I share your sentiment, in that the 'glory kill' dynamic is a necessity to progress in the game. That upset me, considering ID said it wasn't going to be necessary, but imo... it was necessary. Mind you, I played it on the Playstation 4. If I played it with a M&KB on the PC, it would be much easier. My MAIN gripe with Doom 4 - and I'm surprised I haven't seen many other Gamers mention this... is how absolutely LAZY and chickenshit of a move it was, for them to not change the Placements up for the varying difficulties. They went the Noob route and simply add health to the NPCs, and also how much damage they do to the player. I was extremely disappointed to learn that, after beating the game and wanting to play it on a higher difficulty. Absolute dingbat move on their part and if I was a journalist, I would lambast them with that point until I was blue in the face. They need to work for a living, and do unique NPC placements for each difficulty. That is a standard that should be respected, but I digress....
  15. I also appreciate that the weapons and armor don't need to be repaired... it's a nice change-up from Minecraft. I also feel the same about Fallout 4 compared to Fallout 3. I disagree that upgrading is impossible. Once a certain Merchant came to my home base (a goblin I found deep in an Ice Biome), I could spend money to re-roll the stats on my weapons. It is disappointing that I can't do the same thing for my Armor, although I can live with it. Finding that goblin was such a cool surprise, and then learning that I could boost my weapons with Gold... priceless. I'm not sure what you mean. I assume you were playing it on a smaller screen, and were used to that resolution... and once you moved up to a bigger screen that perhaps it became unplayable in your view, because everything was so small on the screen at that point. From the get go, I have wished that there was a 'zoom in/out' feature, because the resolution is so small. I am playing it on a 54" Plasma screen and everything is quite tiny.... looks crisp as can be, but small none the less. I concur. Minecraft vanilla out of the box (both for my PS3 and PS4 games) is incomplete and needs the updates (really wish Mojang would release a compiled version including all the updates, whenever they make the move to make a part 2) while Terraria is definitely a complete experience with the PS4 version, from what I can tell anyway. Fair enough, I agree that Minecraft is more building oriented. Both games definitely have their own merits.
  16. For me, the allure is the combat. I haven't spent too much time building.. only to attain the necessary rooms to attract more Merchants, and for making storage for all of my items. In the beginning the Combat was merciless and I was getting slaughtered... all until I saved enough money to purchase a Ninja sword, then I could finally travel into the Corruption Biome without getting killed. That is when the game took off for me... I could finally explore to my hearts content, and I could stay out at night with a fighting chance. Finally I could explore the map to the East and West, as well as dig deeper than ever before. What really impresses and entertains me about the game, are the unexpected 'events' that occur. When a goblin hoard attacked my home base, that was an amazing surprise! The first time I had to use bombs (eventually sticky bombs), to blow open and gain access to those Orb 'thingamaboppers' deep in the Corruption Biome, and it sprung a giant Wormlike Boss on me, that was amazing! It killed me, but I was ready for it the next time. I've seen a few of you mention how you don't like that the game eventually grinds to a halt from not knowing what to do, to progress further, but that has been my favorite aspect overall... I genuinely feel like I'm exploring a world, and having all of these unique events happen, at my own pace. The first time I met Skeletron, was by accident... speaking to the old man in front of the Dungeon, about his Curse, not knowing he was going to transform and murder me, was annoying; but at the same time I was excited because it was something new that I wasn't expecting, and it gave me a new Quest to work towards. Now, I'm going deep into said Dungeon and it feels amazing exploring, and kicking ass, all in the hopes of finding new gear, and new equipment. I think it's a beautifully constructed game, because I feel like I can traverse my world, at my own pace while the game brilliantly keeps up, and is constantly throwing new challenges my way... which entices me to go further and further. I've taken a loooong break from it for the last few weeks, due to falling down the rabbit hole that is Fallout 4 , but when I boot Terraria up next, I know I'll be back on a thrilling grind to explore my huge world, with a grin from ear to ear.
  17. Yes sir... a more updated version of the Aliens TC, it is WICKED! https://www.moddb.com/mods/aliens-the-ultimate-doom/downloads/aliens-tc-2017 You sound like me... I was out of the loop until a year or two ago when I started collecting for Doom again and I am SO happy I did. There is a lifetime worth of quality Mods and Wads available, TONS of complete Megawads for both Doom 1 & 2. A lot of the fun is organizing the collection imo, as well as, obviously going through it. I will post how I have my collection organized in a future post. Same here, it's my favorite FPS of all time. I have all of those, and a ton more. Those are some top dogs you listed. Some massive Megawads that I've enjoyed are Scythe 1 & 2, Slayer, all of the Temple of the Lizard Men Episodes, The Community Chest Project Episodes, and The Lost Episodes of Doom. Hell Revealed and Hell Revealed II are wicked Megawads, enough to bring most to their knees on Ultra Violence. I seem to remember Alien Vendetta even having some custom weapons and monsters, which definitely spiced things up... I haven't played through all of it, just the first couple levels. I'm unfamiliar with GMOTA, Legendoom, and Colourful Hell. I'll have to look into those, thanks for listing them. Heck yeah! That's what's so amazing about these mods is that they give unlimited replayability to any and all wads... combining mods, as I'm sure you know, can also be a unique experience. I will list some of my favorite combinations in a future post. I guess I should have mentioned in my original post, that Heretic and Hexen are included. I have a small collection of mods and wads for them, but since they are the same engine: they are definitely of the same family. Don't forget about Wolfenstein Wads and Mods! Quake is a whole nother ball game! One day I'm sure I'll get into mods and custom maps for Quake and Quake II, I'm just not there yet... too busy with Dooms' Universe. I hadn't heard of Raptor. Just looked it up, cool little shooter... oh Apogee, those were the days. You definitely do, you will be amazed at what's available for Doom. It is, seriously... overwhelming to the point of pure bliss and absolute amazement. Of course, Heretic and Hexen are just as good, in their own ways. Ever thought of playing Doom with Heretic weapons/monsters, or vice versa... ha, well it's possible! There is nothing amateur about the majority of what's available these days... these projects, both the Mods and custom Wads are superior to anything ID ever created. Honestly, I don't understand why ID doesn't revisit the engine, and come up with something similar to GZDoom, and make new maps and mods, and market it. Take Project Brutality for example: it is more brutal, more graphically satisfying (in that era's context that is) than anything ID has made, or any other Developer in a similar graphical vein. Complex Doom takes the game to insane new heights. You are missing out, bigtime by not giving what's available, a chance. I use ZDoom for a few things, but GZDoom is my main engine. That sounds like a lot of work to play Doom 64. I have two mods that I use for Doom 64. One attempts to be as close to the original as possible, and the other is a 'Brutal' version: both have their merits. I'll post these in a future post, along with all the other goodies I've collected. Que? No offense, but in this day and age... I don't understand why anyone would want to play the 100% vanilla experience. Playing it with a newer engine, with all the new goodies is the way to go. New effects, bloodier graphics, as well as access to unlimited mods. Why play it with no looking up and down, with oldschool, low rez textures... meh, I can understand being a purist, but not with a game that has been brought into the 21st Century, beautifully, by so many dedicated and extremely talented Developers, Engineers, and Artists. Playing it on Console is a blemish on what it is capable of. I have the version that Nerve modded for the 360, and it is ok I guess. It feels so dumb to not being able to look around... they were so lazy they didn't program that capability into the Thumbstick of the 360's controller... besides that, the textures are rendered in a low rez compared to what I can do on the PC... hell, they didn't even have the decency to program a widescreen resolution. I play it in 4:3 on my PC's CRT monitor, because that monitor is a 4:3 monitor... but you can bet your arse than when I end up playing Doom on a PC with a widescreen monitor, I'll be rendering it in an appropriate widescreen resolution. I don't understand why anyone would play Doom on DosBox in a vanilla state. ZDoom or GZDoom do so much. I know it's all a matter of personal taste, but those are my thoughts... no offense meant. https://www.moddb.com/mods/aliens-the-ultimate-doom/downloads/aliens-tc-2017 I think this is the one I have. Check it out. PC Master Race!! True. I haven't tried the updated Mastered Doom 3 for the PS3/360 era, but I read reviews that said it felt pretty good with the sticks. I have played a bit of Doom 3 on the original Xbox and I enjoyed what I experienced. It was severely watered down from the PC version, but an extremely impressive mod, at the same time, considering what the Developers had to work with. Best OS ever made! Edit: another thing to consider, is that with the advent of custom engines like GZdoom/etc., there are also a host of killer Mods and Wads for Wolfenstein!! I have a decent collection of those which I'll share in a future post.
  18. A. Ah, ok... now I understand the question. The Hobby is as important to me today as it has ever been. I play a lot of video games and still enjoy them the same as I did the first time I played River Raid on the 2600 many moons ago. The Commercialization of Retro is positive imo, because of how many Indie developers have made great games for the PC and todays Consoles. A lot of good games have come from it imo. I still like my hardware, but with my recent learning about the Super NT and the AVS, I have less care for Carts than I ever did, now that I've discovered Flashcarts. I quit caring about collecting Carts years ago when prices became silly, so my recent new love of Flashcarts is a Godsend. B. Yes, yes they are! Playing these old games in glorious 1080p on a 54" Panasonic Plasma is heaven on earth! C. I agree with your sentiment with regard to Collectors showing what they have. Where I take issue is with the clowns like metaljesus asking people to pay for their Hobby: it's disingenuious and patronizing to people who truly care about sharing their love for a Hobby. I concur, it's interesting at times to see what folks have collected and how they've organized their setup, but again... what bothers me are people begging for money, for a Hobby. "In the end there is no right or wrong. It just is. There's really a solution and style for all kinds gamers." I concur, well said. Thanks for your in depth response.
  19. I hear you. From what they've shown, the engine looks identical to me. Even if it's doing more Post Processing effects, and showcasing more on screen at once, even with more Frames... it still looks the same to me and doesn't warrant having a different engine #, but that's me. The difference between IDTech 3 & 4 is remarkable, and is a perfect example of why I think this new game simply looks like IDTech 6. So, Doom 5 then.... I disagree with ID naming these two games the way they did. I think it's disrespectful to the Franchise, because imo... it looks like they're trying to distance themselves from the old school days of ID, I'm not entirely sure why though.
  20. I disagree. I think each system should have inputs for the controllers for that system, only. It would be awkward to me to have a system with inputs for multiple systems and I don't see how they could program that, but I'm no Engineer. I agree with the overall sentiment in the thread that support for the 32x and CD unit would rock, although I'm not sure they could incorporate them. To those saying they're fine with their existing Genny setups, I hear you... but the main reason I've recently fallen in love with the idea of Retro Gaming on a Widescreen, due to my experience with the Super NT, is due to the fact that I can have every pixel utilized for the game. I despise bars on the screen, and playing a 4:3 ratio on a Widescreen is for the birds imho.
  21. I use an older setup and it works well. XP w/SP 2 running a Q6600 at stock 2.4 speed coupled with an Nvidia 88GT. I use an old driver set from around the end of '07 and it runs basically everything from '95 to current. I play on an old 17" CRT monitor, which suits the 720p resolution I render everything at, just fine. StarCraft runs well, but tears, for example. Quake runs like a dream. Like everything on a PC, it takes time and patience to get things working, as I'm sure all of us old timers know all too well.
  22. Installed recently and have only watched the Intro that plays when starting the game... looks amazing. I've no idea what to expect... I'm hoping it's Open World Sandbox.
