Night Driver has always been, and still is, quite fun, but something has bothered me for many years (in a silly way.)
Sometimes when colliding with an oncoming car, it gets knocked completely off the road, very much like a real crash on a narrow winding road. There's a short pause, and then, you just...drive off and leave the poor smashed car and its supposed occupants behind. There had to be someone in it because they were honking the horn just a second earlier, now their car is sitting there lifeless, still visible. And then you just leave them. And the crash was probably your fault.
Night Driver and other games of its time made us rely on imagination to fill in the gaps, and maybe mine was a little overactive, but I had to get this off my chest after so many years. Still feel a little guilty to this day.

You sound like a good person, Larry. That's all I can say.

Finally beating Raiders of the Lost Ark.

I agree with Syzygy1, as I love the game but I see her point about not getting too much information about the patient. At least on Intellivision's Micro Surgery you are told exactly what's wrong with the patient and where you should be focusing your efforts. I never saw the movie, was it good?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that I feel the two prototypes of Planet of the Apes and Alligator people are the best. I've been a POTA fan for as long as I can remember and I loved the game when I discovered it a few years ago. As far as released games, I'm going with FOX2600 and say "Porky's". I had many memorable hours playing that game.

Love it. Kind of has a Dr. Who feel to it.

I agree. John should know that we all would buy it. Anything he makes is gold.

No problem. I can't tell you how many times as a kid I got put on punishment for cursing at the computer because of this game. Or at my brother for bugging me for when I was trying to concentrate and play. And, yes, I totally agree that the last level is the easiest. After all you have to go through before that, it's nice to be able to relax a little on the last level. The secret is to just keep her pinned in the side and just wail the hell out of her.

I thought I was the only one who lost their mind over that game (Food Fight). I played that so much on the 7800 when I was younger. If memory serves me correctly it only goes up to level 125 and then just keeps replaying older levels. I didn't even know at the time it was an arcade game. If anyone can make the game fun it will be John. I mean look what he did for Mappy.

Me, too. I loved Food Fight on the 7800. Wasnt there a prototype for Elevator Action?

I'm looking to purchase the kid's controller for the 2600 and some or all of the overlays for the games. I am also looking for the overlay for Star Raiders. Please let me know and we can negotiate.

Great interview. I was just commenting on facebook last week how much fun Johns DOS ports were and still are today. I dare say they are some of the best ports ever made. The Champ versions of games like Galaxia and Centiped-em are perfect examples of taking an existing game and tweaking it just a bit to add extra features without drastically altering the original game. And Mappy? Man what a fantastic 2600 port.
I agree. I was totally blown away by Mappy. I loved that game when I was a kid. I think I spent many weeks' allowance plugging quarters into that game! The Famicom port of it was good, but John's is still the best.

Maybe, but you can feel secure letting your kids and grandkids watch my channel because there is no profanity of any kind. I have nothing but respect for James, as if it weren't for him I wouldn't have been inspired to start my own channel. However, I don't spend hours on end trashing people's hard work or finding new and creative ways to use foul language.

I need to dig back into the files of my brain and relearn Basic. I had some fun with that game back in the day.
I'm married to a beautiful black woman so I understand.
You know what? I was thinking about making T-shirts for my channel, and you inspired me. Anyone who can make a mockup of the Basic Programming cartridge label with a black gentleman on the cover will be entered into my new contest. Whoever has the best design will win a free Class Gamer 74 t-shirt. You can use a photo editing program but I want it to look like it was made that way.
Let the contest begin!!

Hey, what's up, Syzygy1 ?

Thank you! John was surprised at how excited everyone is about a new Bowling game. personally, I loved Atari Bowling, I think I played it more than just about any other sports game I owned (except RS Baseball). I'm not sure how it can be updated. Maybe a trackball game? What do you guys think?

Great to hear it. I have an interview on my channel coming up that any and all Residents fans will want to check out. I'm not saying who it's with...Homer Flynn. It should be up next week.

In the latest episode I interview John Champeau (or as we call him JohnnyC). It was a real privilege to be able to speak to one of the best programmers around. This part 1 or 2. Please don't forget to vote for the best hacks, homebrews and demos in this year's Atari Awards. Stay tuned for Part 2 coming in a few days.
Thanks again, John.

Forgot some details...you'll need this to connect your 2600 to coaxial splitter
https://atariage.com/store/index.php?l=product_detail&p=42

Also stay away from the Hauppauge WinTV. You will have bad results with some systems.
I couldn't find the one I bought on eBay years ago. It was like $30 and it worked flawlessly with any console I connected to it.
Let me know if you find out. The ones I saw online were quite expensive.

Red Sea Crossing Manual?

Nice job on the manual. I don't think it came in a box either, did it? I actually liked the game as I reviewed it on my channel awhile back. It's just a little disheartening that Moses never gets across (in the game).
