  1. Does anyone have the rom of the version of Mark of the Mole that was discussed on Atariprotos? I just talked to Homer Flynn and he told me that the more complete version that The Residents had was sold off years ago for a few thousand dollars to some collector. i would love to see the game that Matt talked about on the website.

  2. I'm having trouble with getting games to work on Akiko (CD32) emulator. Everytime I try to load a game I get a window and it changes from black to yellow, and that's all it does. Can anyone help? thank you

  3.

In the latest episode of my Youtube Channel I discuss my favorite games that were only available on the Colecovision. I was not a big fan of the system back in my younger days, but have in my adult years. The graphics and quality of the games were second to none. And these games that were made just for that system stand alone and are some of my all-time favorite video games. Enjoy! Please subscribe if you haven't already.

  4. Yep it's one of my favorite games of all time. I play the arcade version using MAME quite often. As a kid I played many Q*Bert hours on my C64. The C64 port was a really good computer port:

I also had the VIC-20 port and it was just awful:

Oh Lord. You aren't kidding! That is the worst port I've seen! Now I can't unsee it!!!

  5. Happy New Year, everyone! In my latest episode, I discuss some games that I thought are great, but were ignored, mostly thanks to the slew of really bad games that were available back then. And also because of the crash. There are a lot more that I didn't put on this episode, maybe a followup? But these are some that I considered classics. Any feedback? What are some games that you think should be included in a followup episode?

Thanks for viewing and for subscribing. Please do, if you haven't already.

In this episode I compare the classic arcade game Q*Bert with its ports like Atari 2600, Colecovision, Intellivsion, Atari 5200, NES, and a special 7800 Homebrew. This will be the first in a series that I call AVP (no, not Alien vs. Predator...Arcade vs. Port.)

I have to say that Q*Bert is one of my all-time favorite arcade games. I loved the characters and the seemingly simplistic game play. As I got better at the game, I realized that it is challenging but yet fun. Do you guys agree?

  7. I would have liked to see what Pompeii would have been like if it had been finished. The proto doesnt really reveal too much.

It's funny how Dan Kitchen talked about Apollo in the interview I did with him on my channel. He didn't mention any other 3rd party companies by name.

In the latest episode, Red and I discuss Christmas-themed Homebrews, all of which can be purchased here on Atariage.com. I was just amazed at how great the quality of the games are on Stella's Stocking. Can you imagine putting five games on one cartridge back in the day? Amazing work but some really talented programmers.

I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas, and I want to thank everyone for their support, comments, suggestions, views, and subscriptions. It means a lot to me.

The shoulder block is very important, yes, but you can get around having to constantly use it once you understand that you have to allow the opponent to land a hit after you do a move or two, otherwise the next move you attempt will get reversed. Two simple and low-risk ways of allowing the opponent to land a "hit" are a) let them land a single punch/kick; b) purposely dash into your opponent causing a collision that knocks both of you down. Either of these events will satisfy the game that the opponent has had a chance to land a hit, which enables you to perform moves without annoying reversals.

An almost foolproof method is as follows:

match start -> shoulder block -> pick up, sling to ropes, power kick -> pick up, sling to ropes, smash into them on purpose -> power kick a few more times, smashing into them on purpose after each one -> piledriver -> smash into them -> piledriver -> smash into them -> piledriver... etc.

Just keep doing the moves until the opponent stays down long enough for you to climb the corner, do 3 knee-drops in a row, and pin. Rinse/repeat.

The game is a classic but the experience does suffer once you figure out the exploits. One might be inclined to say "well, simply challenge yourself to not use the exploits," but that's the problem - this isn't like UFO hunting in Asteroids. In that game, you can just choose not to exploit that loophole and progress through the levels. In Mat Mania, best I can tell, using the exploits is the only way to survive. Especially against Coco Savege [sic] - if you let him get control of the match for more than a few seconds, you'll never get it back and it's game over.

Brilliant! Where were you when I needed your help 20+ years ago?!

Also, i would like to line up some interviews for future episodes with the homebrew creators on this website. Please let me know if you are interested.
