Star Trek (Strategic Operations Simulator)
classicgamer74 replied to classicgamer74's topic in Atari 2600
Well, you know, it happens. I mean look at the external reviews on this site. I think some people intentionally gives games low scores. I mean someone gave Pitfall! a 60%. ??? -
I created this episode on a request from my wife, a fellow Trekker. As a kid I only got to play this game a few times, in the arcade. I remember loving the vector graphics and just loving the game, period. I thought it was cool that they were able to simulate Mr. Spock's voice and I found the game play was fun and challenging. When it was ported to the Atari 2600 I remember being disappointed because it wasn't like the arcade. Of course I was only 8 and didn't understand that it was impossible to port vector graphics, but yet I played the heck out of it and still enjoy it and the other various ports to this day.

Okay, let's not rub it in! Next time I'll double and triple check! On a side note, I've heard they're making films about Missile Command and Centipede. What about a Yars' Revenge film? (See I put the apostrophe in the right place that time).

You're right. I'm sure I'm not the first to make that mistake. *Rasberries*

Oh yeah. I mean I haven't even begun to sift through all the games yet. I keep discovering new ones all the time that I have. Just the other day I discovered Air Raiders the other day. And the hack is great because you never run out of ammo. But you're right. There are plenty of other games and homebrews out there.

I was disappointed when my 2600 died. I'd had it since 1982. It started smoking and everything! I plan on replacing it sometime soon, but I'd had it for so long.

To call this game iconic and a classic has to be the understatement of the century. I didn't play this game as a kid as none of my friends nor I had it. But since I started playing it's been hard to stop. I hope you guys like the new intro. If you haven't already, please subscribe as I am trying to reach my goal of 50 subscribers. Thank you.

I would pay for the rom. That wouldn't be a concern as I don't have a true 2600 anymore. My brother-in-law just got me the Atari Flashback Gold (I highly recommend it). Mostly I just play the Atari games on Stella. It would be worth it to me to purchase the rom. I have read the reviews some people have posted about the game being "not all that". But for me it's a little personal because my late father was a BIG Pink Panther fan. When I was growing up we used to play 2600 a lot (Air, Sea Battle; Combat; etc.) and we loved cartoons. The Pink Panther had to be my dad's all-time favorite. So, for me, it would be nostalgic to combine the two. I've seen vids of the game and I can tell you, the old man would have loved it!

If it were possible to have it dumped into a bin, I would even pay for that.

Count me in, too.

Swami, I hope that ALL the above are true!

Arkyology - New prototype discovered - Finished Game!

I discuss more Christian video games in the latest episode of my channel. I know these are NES games, but if you are interested in Arkyology, you might like these games. Please like and give me a subscribe. I'm trying to reach 50 subscribers. Thank you! -
Like most of you, I think, I had never heard of The Electric Yo-Yo until I found out about Elk Attack on atariprotos.com. After getting the prototype and playing it over and over again, I decided to check out the game it had been a port of. i really enjoyed playing it, too, although it get pretty hard after the first few levels. It's a shame that it wasn't a bigger hit back in the day, but puzzle games are usually no match for side scroller and space shooters at the arcade. Regardless I found it to be a lost classic. As far as Elk Attack goes (I still dig the working title), it wasn't a bad port, although it was obvious that some more work was needed, as i discuss in the video. Still, maybe someone can do a hack of it and make it more like the arcade someday. I hope everyone has been enjoying the videos, please don't forget to like and subscribe if you do. I appreciate all the feedback I've been getting from you guys since I started. Thank you.

Okay. Maybe we can get together. I'll buy dinner and bring beer.

I live about a half hour south of Chicago. Does anyone who has the game live remotely close to me? I'd love to try it out, as I want to do an episode on my YouTube channel about it. But I'd really like to play it first. I can bring dinner or whatever. Let me know.

One of my subscribers said he played the game for 10 hours straight! Yikes!
-
I would love to just play it. Once. Or maybe twice.
-
Thanks, I'm going to try it out.
-
Agreed. That guy did a great job on that hack. I can't imagine how much work went into it.
-
Other than Asteroids, I really can't think of many other games that I played obsessively than Berzerk. I spent many hours playing this game and to be honest, I still do it on occasion. It's just one of those games that are simply timeless and fun.

That's what makes a game a classic, at least that's what I think. When playing a game brings back positive memories for you.
