Anybody else turn down the game volume, turn on some great tunes and listen to music while playing? Listening to the Astro v As game tonight playing some NES. But most often its music. Id say more music than game sounds while playing here. Lots of 80s Metal (yeah yeah) and Celtic rock/punk mixed with some small country artists. Do anybody else? What music?

Nice collection :0 Curious and the homebrews myself. That is a big deal IMO. Looking forward to it. -
Really well put. Thats how I feel as well. The more complex games of today require upwards of a dozen controls it seems. Understandable but something about one stick and one button just makes it more enjoyable for me. Guess Im just getting old!
-
Large is better overall. Been playing a lot of NES lately and that control is just too small overall IMO. Its well designed but just wish it was a wee bit bigger overall.

Whats your preference for general gaming. For me its joystick all the way. D Pads are fine but much prefer the good ole joystick for control. Thumb sticks like on the PS and Xbox are a good middle ground but still much prefer a joystick.
-
Mine does not have the detente. It would make it easier to click from lane to lane in the game if it did. That being said it still performs better for me that the D Pad. Plus when it gets hairy then Im able to just spin the rotary and fire away and go down in a blaze of glory!! Match made in heaven.

Very impressive work :0

Just fired up Tempest today on the Jaguar, difference being the new rotary controller picked up off of eBay recently. Its not a world of difference playing with it, more like a universe of difference. Wow does it control better. Just a entirely new game IMO. Very nice! If you are thinking of getting one do...very worth it. Mine is the one with the rotary on the bottom and it feels very natural to use it that way.

Looks like its gone. What was the opening bid?

Good point. As long as enough pay attention, lets hope that continues going forward.

So true. Some NES stuff is insane in price. Glad that the crappy ole Atari is ignored.

For me its the simplicity of the games. Playing the newest generation of PS4, Xbox One, Switch is awesome. What they can now do with games is stunning. But at times its too complex to just relax and enjoy. A single button control is nice to use when you want to just enjoy a simple game. Playing Atari classics on the PS4 just aint the same! Feels cheap to me. The stuff is the middle (PS1, GameCube, Dreamcast, NES etc) is a great compromise of both the old and the new so those are interesting. Played Gunsmoke on the NES last night as well as Sea Of Theives on the Xbox One. Both enjoyable :0 If forced to narrow now the console to just 3 to own Id go Atari 7800, PS1 and PS4 that would give me about the perfect mix of games. But man Id miss the Dreamcast. And NES And even the Jaguar And... Yeah not going to reduce down any consoles!

Expressing my desire for an Ataribox that does what my post states does not display passive aggressive behavior in anyway. The emotional investment some have in hating this item is just weird to me. To them anybody who does not join in said hate is attacked. Time for me to move on to more rational subjects. This one has went beyond the point of reasonable open conversation for some on both sides.
-
Guess so. As long as the game had an retro Atari feel Id check it out. Lower cost to developers and distribute those types of games and have them in a community with Atariboxes would be nice IMO. Thanks for the F bomb, that always adds so much to a conversation.
-
Id just be interested in existing games myself. Id love the ability to download and play games from all past Atari consoles and computers. Both games by Atari and other publishers. Playing them on an Atari branded nice looking box would be sweet. Now they would have to be reasonably priced. Maybe $2 - $10 depending on the game. But Im most likely in the minority on being willing to buy a VCS and then buy old games for it. Cant see new games being worth developing for this. Except maybe homebrews and such. It would be cool to see that type of community on a Ataribox. Im dreaming, but hey at least its dreaming bout something cool :0

Feargal Mac Conuladh Thats a awesome name. Bet the dude can drink like a fish. Scammer or not Id have a nice cold Belhaven Stout with him just cause of the name.

GameStop use to take $5 deposit on pre sell games, not sure if they do so not anymore. But the concept is in certain parts of our economy to prepay for certain things. Sports tickets, be it season ticket or single games, concerts and amusement park tickets, airline tickets etc.. Question is how far we are willing to extend that for more material type items and not services. Im willing to for things that will be hard to get when they first come out (Nintendo Switch comes to mind) or if there is a deep discount offered for pre paying. Heck Id prepay for Shenmue 3 months and months in advance! Ataribox is a maybe as far as coming out so that is a strike, and the discount offered was not deep enough IMO so strike two as far as preorder. That being said Id still buy one if its interesting enough when it comes out,

Very valid point. Hard to believe modern tech can build at least the same quality of a low cost item like a joystick. They do get points for being so open and honest about it. They seem to Want to fix it so that’s a great start. I’m sure it will be corrected long term.

It was a good company. Was a Store manager for them and it was fun. Loved unpacking the boxes of books as they came in and seeing all the new ones. We were allowed to check books out and take them home so we could in turn recommend books to customers. That was a nice perk for a cash starved young book lover.

Oh man how true... Use to hurt when squatting down. Then started to hurt when standing back up. Now it hurts to think about doing either ! Time is cruel..
-
They were so smart about it when they started. Start selling just books, cheap prices. Add on heavier S&H (back when S&H on line was a profitable factor) and make their money on the S&H not the product. Then slowly dominate the market and lower shipping prices to drive that domination. Pure brilliance. Worked for Waldenbooks for 5 years in the early 90s. Amazon helped kill that company in many ways IMO. They are a retail beast these days.
