  1. In the 80s growing up a bunch of families moved down here due to the issues in Detroit. Hanging with those kids they called it pop we were like what is that? :0
  2. Brand names are powerful. Around SE Texas its You want a Coke? Yes What kind? A Dr Pepper, Pepsi etc.. Soda or Pop are not even used by most. Band Aide...QTip etc.. Atari has that and lost it. Not getting it back. Its Xbox or PlayStation now that own that right...
  3. Thats good stuff. Mine are in Japanese. Some are easy enough to play like baseball, platform era and shooters. Other are not playable for me due to language issues. But its kinda fun bumping around in then trying to figure out what to do And they are really cool looking carts compared to most American releases,
  4. Holy hell she is a human unicorn! Lol Yeah Apple of yor is not Apple of today. Still use them, main email is still a @mac.com even, but not the same IMO.
  5. What pull my attention was the Atari name and the look. Its an awesome looking unit. Both old school and modern atvthe same time. But its not innovated in anyway. The Apple OS (10.0 and up) was, the iPod was a game changer, and the iPhone was industry changing. Apple combined looks and function like nobody else. Their quality was top notch as well, after Jobs died that seems to have changed though
  6. Had a Apple IIc back in 87, been Apple ever since. First iPod, first iPhone, iMac, clamshell iBooks, OS9 the whole list of long Apple memories! Heck even bought Apple stock at $22 and sold it at $44 thinking Id made a killing..what a bonehead move! And your right not long ago Apple was a has been that nobody cared about outside the small Apple community. It was sad really. And thenthat changed to the Apple of today, a giant in the industry. Maybe even more than that... But Atari cant pull that off IMO. Apple innovated like crazy and that lead to their rebirth. Atari is not trying to do that at all.
  7. Yes price keeps me away from some. Ive decided that $30 is my cap for a NES game. The AVS plays Famincin games as well, those are $4-$5 shipped from Japan on eBay :0 Spent a bit more per game on the Jaguar games but that tops out around $70 for the home brews from AA. The 7800 seems reasonable on games. Just have to control myself... Just cant seem to pull the trigger on those expensive games though do thats good :0
  8. Their market cap is around $130 million so $3 is good bit of change for them. Nintendo stormed back into the market and is killing it with the Switch after the Wii U tanked. The Atari box is not doing that for Atari though. But if marketed it correctly at places like Best Buy it might sell. Places like Gamestop is the wrong market IMO for a console like this. Need to hit us old guy up not the younger generation. A older customer buying a nice new big HDTV and seeing that cool looking Atari branded box at Best Buy might just jump in based on nostalgia. Thats the market they should go after IMO. Has to be $200 or less though. Assuming it is produced of course they might have some success.
  9. Yeah kinda glad Im outta room cause Im kinda outta gaming money too! Ah the Dreamcast, what a great system. Home of Shenmue the greatest game ever IMO. Really enjoying the NES as well, a system that Ive not played till this year.
  10. 7800 will be on a LCD, currently have that and an computer monitor hooked up in my game room. Run a PS4, SNES Classic, Switch, AVS NES Clone and Xbox One S thru the monitor via HDMI. Run a Dreamcast, PS1, GameCube, Jaguar and Wii they the LCD, the 7800 will be added to that via component. Good info on the light gun, thanks. Id get a cheap CRT but no dang room to put it in current set up
  11. Awesome info, thanks to all for the quick replies. Looking at the games list no doubt need more than a 2600 controller! Will check out the links and order tonight on the needed supplies to fire this thing up when it arrives!
  12. Just purchased a 7800 today on eBay. Honestly just to play Dungeon Stalker, which I️ also ordered today :0 Never owned one before. It is a composite AV modified model. It includes just the console, no power, controller or Av cables. Question is other than eBay whats a good source for the power supply? Just weighing my options. Also and most importantly to me, is there any downside to using a 2600 controller on the 7800? Is a 7800 controller worth a buy? Thanks in advance for the help.
  13. Thats hilarious. :0 Yeah that pickle peppermint thing even sounds bad..but she swore where she grew up (Beaumont Texas) everyone did it.
  14. Wow, never heard of that. Like dill pickles and peanut butter so hmmm.... :0 Knew a lady once who use to take those huge dill pickles and shove a peppermint stick down the center and eat it like that.
  15. https://www.blueberrycouncil.org/blueberry-recipe/blueberry-grilled-cheese-sandwiches/ Sounds bad.. But oh so good..
  16. We so lusted after one as kids, it just seemed so much more advanced than the 2600s we had. Heck might have to get one now to fulfill childhood dreams :0
  17. Good advice thanks. Ill check it out. Born in 68, skipped from the 2600 to the Atari 400 to a Apple IIc for gaming so never really played many console between the 2600 and the SNES. Just diving back into all that Ive missed out on with those consoles. Lots of catching up to do!
  18. Great points. The best thing out of crowd funding in gaming has been Shenmue 3 IMO. Other than that nothing really has grabbed me fully. The Ataribox is of interest to me and can see one in my house if it is developed and is interesting. Id paid a bit more for a Atari branded box to be honest. Id also wager there is a group out there that would trash this thing if it came out, was able to play everything between the 2600 and the Jaguar and the Atari computer games. Heck it could spit out grill cheese sandwiches and cold beer as well and some would still trash it. Not me, love a good grill cheese! Agree that nostalgia is a huge factor, and today thats still sucks me into bad movies from the 80s, crappy hair metal from the 80s and a odd fascination with most things 80s. Atari has a hold on me because of that as well. Im pretty objective about this entire project, hope it works out but if it does not it will not really effect me much. Dont really need more games in the backlog to play! :0
  19. Ive not had much experience with the Intellivion, only the rich kids had those growing up, us poor kids had 2600s :0 But that cool they are making that.
  20. Ive heard great thing about that game. Ill have to order a copy. Want to get a 7800 to play Dungeon Stalker home brew. That one looks cool Played some Commamdo on NES tonight. Also some Iron Tank on the NES. Iron Tank is tough for me..lots of me dying going on in that game!
  21. Lets part ways now. We would both be better off playing games than spending times going back and forth on a silky subject we simply disagree about. Enjoy your night.
  22. Your acting like a bit of an jerk towards me and for no reason other than we disagree. Ive not attacked you in anyway other than to disagree with your views. If thats not the point of a forum (to exchange different views and share info) what is? Not sure how repeatly saying it may or may not come out, and it may or may not suck if it does like Ive posted on here qualifies for defending this item. How is that me defending Ataribox?
  23. What was odd is they set a target of $100,000 for the crowd funding. Pretty low number overall. Maybe to gauge interest? Who knows. Might or might not see the light of day. Might or might not fail if it does. It will not challenge the big 3 console makers at all..no way that occurs. Not if we wanna see crowd funding go nuts then Star Citizen is that product. That is a crazy story that is still ongoing. Makes the ole Ataribox look like a gold medal winner! Up to what $150,000,000 raised now..some individual folks $25,000 into backing? Thats crazy.
  24. If someone does not like crowd funding then dont support it or products that are funded by it. No harm no foul. No reason to attack those that do, its their money. Lots of attacks on those backers over the past month. Its still a relatively new business practice so historical comparisons dont fully apply IMO. It did get Shenmue 3 rolling and developed and thats sweet! So it does work on occasion. We all over pay for things in our lives, its pretty subjective when it comes to value. Ive done it plenty of times :0 If somebody wants a Atari branded box that they pay more for just because its Atari branded then God bless em IMO.
  25. Going to have to disagree about some YouTube channels. Their tabloid like coverage of this issue was nothing short of clickbait. Their attempts to appear objective (which many tried to do) were very poor. Reminded me of supermarket tabloid type headlines on their videos. It was more their delivery than message that turned me off of them. To each their of course, others clearly disagree. No horse in this race myself at this point. Its interesting to see this develope though , Ill stay tuned to see if / how this item reaches the market. Still might get one of the final product if it is something interesting enough.
