Popeye walking/smoking, take 14 (compare with nes)
I don't like the blue in the face.. I will probably live it black.

So if we have room and planning to "go crazy" with it.. how about:
animated directional torpedoes (2 frames in each direction) ?
crab enemy from level 11 to 20 plus boss crab (currently 3 frames) ?
jellyfish enemy from level 21 to 30 plus boss jellyfish (currently 3 frames) ?
octo boss (any boss) "getting hit" individual frames ?
Explosions for sub and enemies ?
-
you know better
-
Very good job ! smooth as butter
Now.. how about directional torpedoes ?
-
Hey, he called his mamma.. and she looks pissed
24x24 is plenty of room for something better, if you can fit her in of course !

I will base my edit on the already hacked version of playsoft, that have various bug fixes in place.
OK lets start with the dreaded (double wide) punching frame,
Pretty pleased with it, it has the dynamic I was missing from the previous hack, of course you have to squint for maximum viewing pleasure

I bet it will be a bitch to redraw..
edit: also I discovered the cool mini game you have added, nice !

Spot on ! I love it
I wonder if we can work something out for the big boss to be less blocky..
I don't know the specifics.. is he a sprite ? what are the dimensions ?

I agree, his sprites are very nice.
Thanks man, it looks great !!
Oh, you missed the fin on the sub's tower, also there seems to be some pixels missing from the shark (open jaws frame).

It seems I'm late to the hack party and most of my favorite games have already been hacked/enhanced spritewise
But it's all for fun and since I have time on my hands (until my next project starts), I'm thinking of redrawing Popeye's sprites !
Of course I know about Darryl's/Playsoft's excellent effort, but there are some things I would do differently.. We'll see

maybe the change is subtle, but the sub has changed since the beginning,
I find the octopus more cartoony that way, but it's your game.. here is a two eyes species !

Hey,
I take you aren't gonna use the octopus (two eyes version) and the improved sub ?

Looks great !
you seem to have miss a couple of pixels here and there, so here are the full sheets,
for some strange reason, when I save in png, it doesn't retain the wide pixels.. I'm sure it's an easy fix for you.
Feel free to use any of them

I already have..

3 hours ago, atari2600land said:Continue. The dimensions are 8x8 and a maximum of 3 different colors. I especially like the octopus, but I want him to have 2 eyes.
OK everything is 8x8 and converted into your palette !
I got carried away and animated everything.. you keep what you need.
I don't know how many frames you can fit in.. so details below:
Torpedo 2 frames in each direction
Sub 2 frames
Key 3 frames
Treasure chest 2 frames
Shark 2 frames
Octopus 4 frames
Crab 2 frames
Teleport-er 3 frames
I can see you are still using the first version of the sub, this is modified.
As an added hazard in later stages, the crab can walk on the seaweed and extent it's claws randomly from time to time.. just an idea.
Let me know what you like, to send you the individual sprite-sets !

So if you like what I'm doing so far, tell me to continue !
Also it will be useful to know the dimensions, and the number of colors and animation frames per sprite..

I'm your man,
I have some of them drawn already

Hey man,
great job, this is turning into a great arcade game !
Have you thought of giving the octopus the shark and the torpedo, some frames of animation ?

For example
BRUCE LEE (C) 1984 DATASOFT SPRITES BY TIX
or
BRUCE LEE (C) DATASOFT 2019 SPRITES BY TIX
or
(C) 1984 DATASOFT - 2019 SPRITES BY TIX
or
BL (C) 1984 DATASOFT - 2019 SPRITES BY TIX
I have no objection with any of them..
maybe the last one is the most descriptive !

And with this I conclude my work on Bruce Lee's re-tweaking
On to the next thing !!

Hey guys,
For my first try of hacking a 2600 game, I have hacked the two Galactopus games with my version of the alien cefalopod !
I have already asked in the original post, and since it's a new game, is it alright to post them here ?

Hey man,
I love these arcady ''simple'' 2600 games !
I drew my version of the Galactopus family and I hacked them into your games !
I hope it's alright to post them..
Thanks 🤞
