almost ready.. do any of you know what this character (from the 2nd mission) is supposed to be ? -
Hello again, and a happy new year to everyone ! Another all time favorite of mine: Pitfall II sprite hack coming up I have worked on this on and off for the past month, every single sprite has been tweaked (some more than others) The hardest part was to stay inside the fixed color strips, and keeping with the sprite sizes to the point as to not alter the game play.. I have played and completed the first mission (the second was always impossible for me), so I think its perfectly playable ! Check some screenshots:

never mind jwierer got back to me..

Hey guys, and happy holidays to you all I have already posted this in the hacks forum, but it has 0 views.. so here we go: I have recently hacked the 8-bit version of Beef Drop with new sprites, and I want to inject them into the 7800 version to create an "arcade edition" of the game ! I read that it is possible to edit the sprites using jwierer's editor (beef drop construction set), This tool was actually used to create this: xmas hack of Beef Drop back in 2006.. But... I fail to find how, must be something I miss because all the other tools by jwierer are pretty straightforward (I tried to contact him unsuccessfully). So can you point me in the right direction ? If you want to check my hack, see my signature below:

If we are talking theoretically, enhanced version or not, the same graphics chip can also do this.. 8x21 5 frames of animation
-
Sorry man, I don't have the full version.. even if I did, I'd have to figure out how to make a patch for it..

A quick Merry Xmas all and a tremendous new year as well...

Thanks man, start from easy/child difficulty and work your way up, the secret is to drop the baddies with the burger not to hit them with it Enjoy the game and have a merry Christmas !

you asked for it http://atariage.com/...op-sprite-hack/

Thanks, I'm very pleased with the result ! Unfortunately no idea on how this can be fixed.. I'm pretty sure the 7800 version has the correct speed animation, thinking of hacking the 7800 rom, so that I can use the extra colors to make the "ultimate" arcade version ??? will see

All done, here is the release candidate ! chef, frank, egg, dill, all completely redrawn, as close to the arcade as possible. the eyebrow thing was a joke nevertheless in the introduction of the enemies before you start the game, the egg has a weird eyebrow, which is strange because it uses the same sprite as in-game !?!?! Try it and enjoy, let me now of anything wrong.. Beef Drop hack (rc).xex

I have noticed a bug in the game (2005 demo).. the chef animation is faster going right than left It wasn't as apparent in the original minimal animation.. but now it is.. Is it possible that another version don't have this problem ? * edit * yes the 2004 demo also have this bug.. Progress report: The chef, frank and egg frames are ready, only dr. dill left !! I have decided not to animate the chef's hat on the ladder, because the up and down movement is already twitchy. Also I don't think I 'll include the black highlights on frank (too messy when animated). I'm thinking about giving all the baddies an evil eyebrow what do you think ?
-
Chef sprite sheet comparison Still unsure if I should animate the hat.. looks great but it does not complies with the arcade..
-
Final Frank comparison shot, highlights + minor tweaks to the feet ! I'm not too sure about the highlights in black but you must embrace the limitations.. You will notice that in the 1st walking animation frame, Frank has only 1 eye.. this is because of another limitation: I wanted the 2nd eye to be further out, but I don't have yellow available there.. add a little magic (fast animation) and the brain fills the gap !!
-
Hey, at the moment I'm very proud for the chef animation I love the little guy !! comparison sprite sheet coming up. Battle of the chefs below:
-
Thanks Gunstar I appreciate the kind words Unbelievably down my list I have Pitfall II.. will see, after I'm done with Beef Drop of course !
-
a better wiener Frank animation frames complete, I still need to work on the highlights..
-
Spritewise I'm shooting for arcade likeness, later I'll see if I can do the title..
-
aha.. good to know !
-
So the demo version it is ! ok the first thing I noticed, all sprites are 8x16 single color but they seem to have a 2nd layer 4x6 which is in all occasions yellow and it is not editable ?!?!? It is used for the baddies eyes/egg yolk/chef face, its always in the same position and cant be moved.. Never mind I like working around limitations see below an example:
