They lied multiple time showing fake gameplay (and then making excuses when called out).

    https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2020/04/xbox-architect-sues-atari-over-unpaid-work-on-crowdfunded-console/

Tin Giant didn't get paid for the work they did.

Atari also don't bother showing up in court.

So, yeah, they lie, cheat, and steal (wage theft is theft). And you don't have to follow 1000 posts. You just have to be paying attention.

Don't forget this is the company that sued Jeff Minter for making Tempest (even though he owned the rights).  Then they disallowed a finished VR version to exist on the PS4.  Then they showed fake screenshots using fake controllers, advertising the very game they sued him for making.  You can't make this shit up.

But yeah - let's ignore all that because hey, it has a cool logo and even an LED to light it up.  I'm just a hater because I follow the popular kids' opinions.

Ah yes, none of us haters would have anything to talk about if it wasn't "fashionable" to hate on it

Yeah - I love how some people gloss over the lying, cheating, and stealing that was done during this project.  I am so glad I have been put in my place and told I only hated it because that was the popular thing to do.

What are interesting results!  They match a 4 MHz system.  How is it possible?!  The Commodore 64 people had to use a 1 MHz Z80 cartridge, the Commodore 128 people were allowed to use the Z80 at effective 1.7 MHz.  What is your system exactly?  Would you like to send me a link to its description?  Thank you.

The Indus GT disk drive uses a Z80 CPU running at 4.0MHz and in order to run CP/M, it must have the 64kB RAM expansion card.  The original was DRAM, but there now exists a new SRAM based card.  I do not think that will change any of the speeds at all.

neat! Seems to really slow down the text printing while running... LISTing the program looks like a 1200bps modem when this is enabled.

Hmm I could probably convert this into an autorun.sys. More to play with later.

Strange - I just tried this again in Altirra, and now listing is making the machine crash.

Edit.. And Whoa, ANY inverse text is flashing, not just the cursor!

Yeah - everything I recall seeing BITD that gave a flashing cursor, simply made ALL inverse text flash.  I'm not aware of any that only made the cursor blink.

It's a "middle" model. A1 serial number, no expansion port.

Just when I try to be mature, I read expansion port while watching your animated avatar.

The Atari 8 bit is just a nice legacy game machine.

That is not true for many of us that use these machines.  Hard drives were available as far back as 1983.  If all you want is a game machine, get a 5200.  You don't need a keyboard, SIO port, any kind of expansion, etc.

Alright. And forgiving my ignorance, how to get the same in real hardware?

You will need an NTSC machine, and connect to your display of choice with either composite video, or RF modulator (channel 2/3).

Man, you guys have a lot of time to waste on a piece of plastic, go post some GIF's or something.  Laugh, chuckle or grin every once in a while.

When you see Thomas respond, like he did, the thread has become useless. LOL

Oh, and my Apple watch is better than your Android watch, so there!

Wow - people get mad if we talk smack about the VCS.  They get mad if we post girly pics.  They get mad if we talk about Commodores.  I'm starting to think this place might be for a bunch of geeks that I don't know?  Post positive things about old Atari computers :)  The Jaguar - well, the fumes make it tough to know what's ever happening there.

So.. what are you saying? What do I do? do I buy Atari stock or wait? I NEED TO KNOW.. what is the hidden message in your post?!!!!

Do I go all in?  🚀💎💰

stop being so cryptic! unless you want me to buy the crypto-Token too?
    TELL ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I mentioned in here yesterday, that Atari stock is a whopping $0.39 and the crypto-currency hit a MEGA $0.17.  So hell yeah, this is the time to invest.  It can only go up from here, am I right?

IIRC you can also have CONFIG.SYS on an SDX formatted floppy on D1:, this could be a physical drive or an ATR on an Sdrive/SIO2PC/SIO2SD/etc.

Also keep in mind - the main config.sys file will rarely need to change.  Use a floppy in D1, with a SPARTA.DOS subdirectory in it.  Once you get the debugging done, you can use a tool to write that config.sys back to your CAR device.  The way the tool works is, you modify the ROM and re-burn it.

Now - I VERY much recommend an Ultimate 1MB device, especially if SDX will be your main use case.  Extra RAM will not help for games, but under SDX it just opens up a world of possibilities.

OK, first, I did copy config.sys from the car device.  This is on the 1200xl with u1mb.

That gave me this starting point for config.sys

    DEVICE SPARTA OSRAM

    DEVICE SIO

    DEVICE ATARIDOS

    DEVICE INDUS 4

    DEVICE ULTIME

    DEVICE JIFFY

    DEVICE RAMDISK

    Then I added:

    DEVICE \DRIVERS\S_VBXE 12,148 /X

    DEVICE \DRIVERS\CON.SYS

    SET SCRDEF=12,148

Add the colour settings also, to your CON.SYS driver.  I had this exact same issue, until I made this change.

Interesting game. I made it to level 4, and only got black and white graphics. Is it normal?

    - Y -

Judging by the screenshots and the fact that is was an Apple port, the game certainly uses hi-res graphics and artifacting.  Only really useful from what I've been told on NTSC systems, and using composite video or RF.  S-video has enough video bandwidth to show the actual banding, rather than the false colour info.

Not sure about Target but I worked at Wal-Mart in college. These would sell, and probably really really well, at Wal-Mart if they were able to deliver quantities reliably. It’s probably vastly underestimated. Those $299 base units would be hard to keep in stock. People are failing to see the key factors. Like the Wii or Switch it doesn’t matter that it’s less powerful than Xbox or PS5. In this case you’re answering to the nostalgic and tinkerer types. People will run out to buy their $99 retro console without the extra capabilities they will have no qualms about plunking down $299 for retro, new, streaming, expandable and such in one somewhat cheaper slick looking package.

To me I think the issue is less whether it would sell but more could they ever deliver.

LOL - just like the Jaguar sold like hotcakes when the more expensive Playstation, Saturn, and 3D0 were out right?

    @phaeron

Is there a special issue, that keeps Altirra from running free in the Multitasking Environment?

If any movement of the Windows is stopping the emulation, any other event could stop it as well.

You can turn this off in the configuration...

    System->Pause when Inactive

No - that will let it continue to run when in the background.  When dragging the window to move or re-size it, it will still stop.  This is what emkay is asking about.

The key answer, then, is "no".  Wal-Mart has struggles selling $300 computers that actually do something useful out of the box.  There's no way the Fuji sphere is competitive as a PC or as a Game Console in the world of big-Box retail.

Nor is it competitive (or useful) in the world of reality.

I wonder how small the music could be condensed to if it is switched to mono

You don't want to switch the music to mono.  That is how the underwater music changed without delay.  Above ground = left channel, under water = right channel.
