I havent played FFL myself. but all the reviews i have read point to the low frame rate (for a fighting game) as one of its many flaws. Those reviews also mention that the game features texture mapping on the character models, wich as usual must be the reason why the frame rate isnt too good. Now, by hanging around in this forum for quiet some time, i have learned that the Jaguars strength with polygons, is using guaraud shadding with no t mapping. So shouldnt the makers of FFL aimed for a polygon engine similar to this:
The game uses only g shadded polies, i know that the polygon counts and resolution in this game are too high for the Jag, the game even uses polygonal objects on its background (something few PS1 fightning games did), but shouldnt the Jag do better at this type of engine over the textured mapped one from FFL?
By the way, i just wanna point out that the review of Tobal 1 on that video is full of crap, that game is really good, one of the best games of its time. Featuring gouraud shadding, PS1 high rez mode, 60 frames per secong, polygonal objects in the backgrounds, etc. Those who got past the "simple gouraud shadded graphics"
(sigh)
actually found it better than Tekken1 and infinitely better that Toshinden1. Its a really nice game and Tobal 2 is even more impressive.Cool - I didn't know anyone else that liked Tobal. I was super impressed with it when it came out. It's one of the only games I remember being in hi-res on the PSX (Gran Turismo 2 had a cheat or something - I was insanely impressed with it. I modded my PSX and imported the game and dual shock from Japan so I could play it before my buddies!).

Best electronics sells little keyboard cups that greatly improve the feel of the XEGS keyboard. you may want to invest in a set.I'll second that. It's insanely easy to install these, and while you're at it, you can scrub the entire disassembled keyboard and computer case to make it look like new once it goes back together.

I'll jump on this one as well. Tempest 2000 was the game that made me purchase my Jaguar. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, Tempest Extreem is my most anticipated title on the 8-bit.
Don't let the nay-sayer(s) get you down. Especially when said people don't release anything except short out of tune "music" clips that are painful to listen to, or relentlessly offer ideas how to make games beter (Crownland's sprite multiplexer springs to mind) but never release anything showing how much better they could do it.

Well, there were redesigned Antic/GTIA chips - some of them exist only on paper, some as prototypes. Maybe you have heard something from Curt Vendel and his Atari museum ?!? Once upon along ago, he listed some chips here at atari-age forum that were planned to be in Atari computers around 1984/1985, like Keri (Antic+GTIA in one chip) and other chips. But as we all know, when the video game market (and also the home computer market) crashed in 1984, all these works were stopped. And when Tramiel took over Atari he was not interested anymore in these 8bit thingies...
Its not random luck, that we can have stereo with two Pokey chips, Atari already had plans for that, as well as for many other upgrades and updates of the XL computer line and last not least the Sweet 16 project... -Andreas Koch.
Well, the combined ANTIC/GTIA didn't offer any new features. It simply crammed both chips on one die.
I don't know what happened to Atari - the 2600 progressed nicely into the 400/800 series, and then - nothing. It's a real shame Atari let Miner & Co go. The ST line was cobbled together with off the shelf parts, the 7800 was designed out of house, the Lynx was designed by Epyx, the Jaguar was designed by Flare 1. I don't understand how a company as innovative as Atari was from 1972 to 1979 managed almost nothing afterwards.

It's not new but here's one I did in 1981. It was inspired by Chris Crawford's article in BYTE for December, 1981, about DLIs. The article was one of a BYTE series that became the book De Re Atari. This is a zipped, bootable ATR. It also turns on the 410 Recorder so you can play your favorite Christmas music cassette!
Wow - that was one of my first BBS downloads at a glorious 300 baud back in 87. I never knew it let you play cassettes.

Thanks Stephen. Can you try the Debug build version and see if you have better luck?I appreciate the report.
Gorf
Well, I just tried searching those DLLs on my Vista box adn they are also not present. What is your dev environment Gorf? I have VS2005 Professional on both machines.

I just tried it on Windows XP and it crashed on me twice. Basucly by clicking the mouse on a couple of places including 'Load'.Allan
Same thing here. I am running XP SP3.

hope you all like this. This Shows a lot more of the game. This is badass !
Most anticipated title on the 8-bit. I showed my GF this video yesterday and then had to show her why it was so impressive. Then I realized that I have been wowed by this machine for 26 years, with no end in sight.

Wow - this is great. The only other "music" I have heard play from GTIA was in Midnight Magic. Those sound effects were insanely scratchy.

swiss cheese tastes too plasticcy...no wonder it's very holeydisappointed that no-one wants to join me in some welsh rarebit....cheese on toast
I'll join you Carmel. I usually have a very sharp white cheddar (called New York cheddar, as opposed to Wisconsin cheddar which is less strong, less crumbly, and a deep yellow) on my welsh rarebit.

wnloads.reactivemicro.com/Public/Electronics/CPU/"]http://www.downloads.reactivemicro.com/Pub...lectronics/CPU/[/url]The 6502 was decapsulated and its surface photographed at high resolution.
The partial English translation explains how to read the schematics back from such a photograph.
There are also scans of a 286, 8255 and Pic16f84 on that site.
Since this method is now publically documented, if someone could get photographs of ANTIC, POKEY and GTIA, we could probably use this method to reverse engineer them.
The MAME people have been using decap photographs to extract mask ROMs
http://www.mameworld.net/gurudumps/decap/index.html
It says the cost for each chip is about $330.
Fascinating stuff! I have looked at the 6502 stuff. I pledge $330 to decipher any one of the LSI chips in the 8-bit line. No BS. Three more volunteers, and we are set.

Yes, yes, I was thinking Octopus... Quintopus, that was it.& WOW! MTG has some cool stuff! Are they here on Atariage?
Does anyone have info on the signal line mapping for any of these multi-SIO devices?
Yeah - a8maestro (Rick) does the MTG stuff. He's on here as well as a ergular on the IRC chats. I have one of his SIO spiders with the Peeker. It's fun to watch.

Looks like there's enough room for a 1489 there, you could turn it into an internal SIO2PC.I wouldn't make a hole in my 800's case for a mod like that, but the hole's already there in your case, why not go for it?
I was going to say the same thing. It took me forever to make the 1st internal mod to my 130XE. I won't touch the case though.

I would like to buy one too:) But Who can add it into my atari?Same here. I would buy a couple of these as well.
I am hoping these will be available in kit form. I have enough Ataris to mod a few and keep the others stock.
Stephen Anderson
-
I wonder what the point of adding that connector was?Just a guess, but maybe the original owner needed to use two "dead-end" SIO devices? Or he could have made custom cables / extensions and since the SIO stuff wasn't a standard part, decided to go DB9. I can't think of any other reason for it.

Nice work xxl! Still one of the best guys in the scene for sure
I have an open wallet for your future plans you have earmarked
Very cool! What does CTRL- do? I get color bars in the border and the game freezes.

I just got my hands on a copy of Night Mission Pinball on cartridge. I have enjoyed playing it, but I find the computer speaker sounds to be quite annoying. Does anyone know how to turn the sound to them off, or to switch the sound to the TV speakers instead? Thanks for any replies!
Short of running it on an XL / XE series machine, there is no way to turn off the sound.

I think I've played a version that uses the fire button for acceleration.Does yours really have the speech? Can you upload it - if it's as good as I'm anticipating mine can be, I may as well not bother.
I can't locate it-- I looked around yesterday. Disk seems to have gotten lost in latest relocation, but I do remember hearing that message "Prepare to Qualify" on the Atari polepos game.
I could swear I played that version as well. I'll see if I can find a copy this evening.

I think that there must be someone, who gets in touch with electron, and makes an agreement on producing the board in larger quantities.I'm in the US and ready to buy one (I have a PAL 130XE it will be going into). I just need to know the price and where to send the money

That's what my current scan converter does. I was hoping this one would do better. Here are some pics from Flickerterm. I would have posted them earlier but I have been sick with the flu. Anyway, it looks like the characters are stepped.#@&%! If I had waited two more hours, I would not have bid on this. Oh well - now I have a 2nd uselses VGA doubler for my 8-bits.
Stephen Anderson

Please, the best test for the de-interlacer on this is to just fire up FlickerTerm and see if the characters line up. Do a solid line of dashes or underscores, and see if they are stepped or flat. If flat, it is correctly handling the output of the Atari. If you need an image, let me know and I'll ZIP one up.

Yes - as far as I know, this is a known issue with this game on PAL machines.
