Get some little teenage whores to start logging on and posting messages on your board.. And get multiple nodes so that live chat is possible..Where does one find these "little teenage whores" you speak of?

Hi Ken-Sure sorry that you were impacted. Hope that you can restore your home to something approximating "normal" soon.
Nothing like you had, but the remnants of IKE produced 50+ mph winds way up here in Indiana and dumped huge amounts of rain clear into Chicago. Quite a storm!
-Larry
I can't imagine what it must have been like down in Texas. We got some really nasty rain all weekend and 50-60MPH winds for a few hours yesterday evening. My house wasn't damaged, but tons of trees are down and tens of thousands are without power. We've been running on generators at work all day, and some schools are closed. A guy I work with had a tree come down on his car. Like you said, quite a storm.

Hi Folks,Just a short question.
What would a telnet BBS need to have, to be so attractive people are really going to use it again?
I know: a forum like this (atariage) is much more comfortable, and easier to use. And I know the BBS will never be a substitution for this. But hey: people still use their atari 8bits, while it would also be much more easy to use a PC or Mac.
I really would like to let people enjoy a visit at the BBS, and let them feel the old bobterm experience again. BBS-ing is a certain part of the computer history and typing and reading on a internet-forum is not the same thing. They could (and should?) exist next to each other. I really like people logging in and out on my BBS. But now it is standing there and waiting... and waiting and waiting... that poor 800xl

If you have a suggestion. Please leave it here, or type it in a message on my BBS.

thanks for your support!

Not really sure Marius - I'll log on as soon as I can (I am typing this at work as my cable is still out due to a wind storm we had yesterday). I do dial up the telnet BBSes at least once a week, I will add your to my list. BTW - I connect using my 130XE for the really authentic feeling.

OK - it's good idea to support most mem-extensions. I've looked at Atari FAQ (here - yeah, the name that appears there looks familiar
) and i think it's best idea to get to know which extensions are most popular. Though are some "not-so-useful" ones (esp. those in section "C").Meanwhile i've done some anims but the best is "ipod fattie" and i want to include it here.

ipod fattie for the win!

How do we tell? I'll look at mine when I get home tonight...Bob
Hi!
Thanks so much for the reply.
There should be a little box on the bottom label, with the FCC ID, "Atari Corp" and "Made in ___________."
Thanks again for checking!
JW
Well, mine(NTSC) was made in Taiwan. But so was my PAL 130XE

Hi!Will the fixes for the 1050 drives get ported to the high-speed SIO driver in MyPicoDOS/AtariSIO as well?Yes, I plan on doing this. As for the AtariSIO routine I have to make the code relocatable again. Concerning MyPicoDos I'm not 100% sure if I should really update it's highspeed code now. Most of the fixes/improvements are only important when writing to disk (which MyPicoDos doesn't :-). So maybe I'll wait a little bit, unless I know of some serious issues with the old code in MyPicoDos.
so long,
Hias
Very nice - it works with my USB version of the SIO2PC and APE at a PoKey divisor of 04. It screams! Unfortunately, when I try to load Ice-T XE 2.72, it kills the hi-speed and I cannot get it to reactivate. Would using a ROM version of this OS fix that? I am not familiar enough with the internals if Ice-T XE to know what it is doing when it loads. I know the hi-speed shuts off right after the 850 handler loads.

Are you insane? I owe these to people.. These are not mine to do with as I wish..Yeah let's smash a few of them, and make it take even LONGER for me to get the remaining orders done...
Yeah that's a GREAT IDEA, Steve...
Well ya know, I thought once you were done with your XF551 collection

I am jealous - these look SO much nicer than the original I have.

Nice screen (and hardwood floors)! The Atari look sgreat on that. Does it handle the interlacing correctly? I use a scan convertor to run my Atari into a VGA monitor, and it has really bad "comb" effects on all horizontal motion. One advanage however, is it combines frames (with every other line dropped by one pixel) so I get no flicker on the interlaced graphics modes.

Well, for all the owneres of original ICD MIOs out there who want to "upgrade" them to match the specs of the new one, here is the upgrade instructions..This works the same on either a 1meg or 256k MIO, and upgrades it to 1meg, with the possibility of using the planned future expansions (eg. 16meg SIMM, VGA, etc.) In fact, once this upgrade is installed, your MIO will be electrically equivelant to the new MIO boards.. Anyone who finds any errors/problems with this should contact me immediately so I can correct/resolve the issue.

And here is the Service Manual:
I am still working on the PHI2 section.. It will be released when Im done.
Anywayze... There ya go... Enjoy..
Awesome! Thanks for posting this Metal. I just got an original 256K MIO. I'll try to power it up this weekend.

Update:Earlier i said that the distorted humming sound from the tv sound output happens after i press play. But after further digging i found that it only happens when you turn on the computer with start pressed down, and it happens when you press return (so you dont need to press any tape recorder keys). BUT this only happens when the tape recorder is plugged in. No noise when it isnt plugged in!
Regards
Ah - that explains it. When you power up the Atari with Start held down, it attempts to load from the cassette deck after you press return. You are hearing the normal sound - IIRC a very high pitch noise. The normal Atari tape loading sounds were a steady squeal, with momentary "screeches". Not very pleasant to listen to. I still remember

Great piece of work! They look awesome on the real hardware. As a nice side effect of my Y/C to VGA box, it blends the frames, so I get no flicker on the interlaced modes.

Yes, apparently Carmel maintains quite a web presence these days.In fact, I'm starting a Carmel fan-club.
Anyone who wants to join, PM Carmel and congratulate him...
And download this photshop template, so you can make your new Carmel Avatar...
Great work. I am now a member of the fan club.

It's not even a PBI device. It is just a cartridge that has a blank "key" on it so it cannot get plugged in upside down.

It looks to me like managing a screen full of objects could be really CPU intensive since you have to manage the DL's for the presence/absence of objects on every line. Is it as hard as it looks, or are there tricks to make it painless?Nope - the more objects on screen, the higher the CPU usage.

I'm not sure why, but the obvious friction between Metal Guy and Carmel is pure genius. I'd like to arrange a boxing match.I'd pay for a ticket

I'll buy one if the price is reasonable!Me too. It would finally get me to set up the ST I have.

I voted Bushnell because without him Atari never would have existed and neither would this forum. However, some of the other leaders had their good points. Ray Kassar licensed Space Invaders which really put Atari on the map, and Jack Tramiel did some good things too. He continued to market the 2600 when he could have killed it, he killed the 5200, and he marketed the 7800. I would have done all those things, but I would have put more emphasis on the 7800 to compete with Nintendon't, I mean Nintendo.
Definitely the Nolan era. That's when Atari was the "true" Atari IMHO. Wonderful game systems, the Atri Video Music, true innovation, 2600. The 2600 grew into the 8-bit computer chipset, and then by 1979, the spark was gone. Nothing of major significance since. The 7800 was designed by outside people, the Lynx was developed by Epyx, and the Jaguar was designed by Flare 1.

Well Here it is Fans. The Tempest Xtreem Playable Demo. 3 levels for you all to enjoy. =)There may still be some bugs in it but the gameplay should be pretty close to the final product.
Awesome! Going to try it now.
OOPS - forgot to say thanks to all involved.
EDIT #2
Doesn't work on the real thing (Atari 130XE with 320KB "Peterson" mod, 32-in-1 OS, NTSC). Worked in both PAL & NTSC in emulator.
Looks and plays great!

How do you get the 64 and 80 col modes in SDX? I know about the XEP80 driver.Maybe by taking a look at the SDX 4.41, 60-page manual addendum: http://trub.atari8.info/sdx_files/4.41/sdx441manual-en.pdf
Thanks much!

(snip...)As about the desktops, the TRS Desktop is the only one I saw that actually works. The rest, if they're finished at all, are less or more crap (slow, unstable, and ugly). Diamond GOS has crashed after I played a while, but this might have been the fault of badly "updated" ROM image (it was a flashcart version homemade by someone, and apparently not working well, so I cannot judge).
Has anyone tried any of these desktops using the emulator? I'd think the extra speed would help. Couple that with 64- or 80-columns and a mouse, and some of these could get more useful.
And speaking of 64 columns, has anyone tried SDX 4.41 with it's 64 and 80-column console (E:) devices? Very, very nice.

Yes - please try FlickerTerm with this and let us know if the font displays properly, or if every other 4 pixel character cell is droppped by one scan line.
