Were 130XEs for North America ever made in China?
Stephen replied to wood_jl's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Hi! Thanks so much for the reply. There should be a little box on the bottom label, with the FCC ID, "Atari Corp" and "Made in ___________." Thanks again for checking! JW Well, mine(NTSC) was made in Taiwan. But so was my PAL 130XE Stephen Anderson -
Dude - you gotta YouTube a video of those being sledgehammered Stephen Anderson No eye rolls necesary. Old inside joke from IRC - from MANY many months ago about rare hardware and YouTube. Nothing to see here, move along. Stephen Anderson

Yes, I plan on doing this. As for the AtariSIO routine I have to make the code relocatable again. Concerning MyPicoDos I'm not 100% sure if I should really update it's highspeed code now. Most of the fixes/improvements are only important when writing to disk (which MyPicoDos doesn't :-). So maybe I'll wait a little bit, unless I know of some serious issues with the old code in MyPicoDos. so long, Hias Very nice - it works with my USB version of the SIO2PC and APE at a PoKey divisor of 04. It screams! Unfortunately, when I try to load Ice-T XE 2.72, it kills the hi-speed and I cannot get it to reactivate. Would using a ROM version of this OS fix that? I am not familiar enough with the internals if Ice-T XE to know what it is doing when it loads. I know the hi-speed shuts off right after the 850 handler loads. Stephen Anderson

Well ya know, I thought once you were done with your XF551 collection I am jealous - these look SO much nicer than the original I have. Stephen Anderson

Nice screen (and hardwood floors)! The Atari look sgreat on that. Does it handle the interlacing correctly? I use a scan convertor to run my Atari into a VGA monitor, and it has really bad "comb" effects on all horizontal motion. One advanage however, is it combines frames (with every other line dropped by one pixel) so I get no flicker on the interlaced graphics modes. Stephen Anderson

Awesome! Thanks for posting this Metal. I just got an original 256K MIO. I'll try to power it up this weekend. Stephen Anderson

Ah - that explains it. When you power up the Atari with Start held down, it attempts to load from the cassette deck after you press return. You are hearing the normal sound - IIRC a very high pitch noise. The normal Atari tape loading sounds were a steady squeal, with momentary "screeches". Not very pleasant to listen to. I still remember POKE 65,0 Stephen Anderson

Great piece of work! They look awesome on the real hardware. As a nice side effect of my Y/C to VGA box, it blends the frames, so I get no flicker on the interlaced modes. Stephen Anderson

Great work. I am now a member of the fan club. Stephen Anderson

It's not even a PBI device. It is just a cartridge that has a blank "key" on it so it cannot get plugged in upside down. Stephen Anderson

Logistical question about programming Maria

Nope - the more objects on screen, the higher the CPU usage. Stephen Anderson -

Me too. It would finally get me to set up the ST I have. Stephen Anderson

Definitely the Nolan era. That's when Atari was the "true" Atari IMHO. Wonderful game systems, the Atri Video Music, true innovation, 2600. The 2600 grew into the 8-bit computer chipset, and then by 1979, the spark was gone. Nothing of major significance since. The 7800 was designed by outside people, the Lynx was developed by Epyx, and the Jaguar was designed by Flare 1. Stephen Anderson

Awesome! Going to try it now. OOPS - forgot to say thanks to all involved. EDIT #2 Doesn't work on the real thing (Atari 130XE with 320KB "Peterson" mod, 32-in-1 OS, NTSC). Worked in both PAL & NTSC in emulator. Looks and plays great! Stephen Anderson

ATARI 8 Bit Desktop Does one exist or not?
Stephen replied to Sean39's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Maybe by taking a look at the SDX 4.41, 60-page manual addendum: http://trub.atari8.info/sdx_files/4.41/sdx441manual-en.pdf Thanks much! Stephen Anderson -
ATARI 8 Bit Desktop Does one exist or not?
Stephen replied to Sean39's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Has anyone tried any of these desktops using the emulator? I'd think the extra speed would help. Couple that with 64- or 80-columns and a mouse, and some of these could get more useful. And speaking of 64 columns, has anyone tried SDX 4.41 with it's 64 and 80-column console (E:) devices? Very, very nice. -Larry How do you get the 64 and 80 col modes in SDX? I know about the XEP80 driver. Stephen Anderson -

There's the recent AtariVox upgrade. It interfaces via the joystick port for use on the 2600, 7800, and 8-bitters. It uses the SPO-256-AL2 (2nd generation 'Speak-n-Spell' chip). The chip can be clocked to 19200 baud though, making it a perfect candidate for an SIO sevice. Stephen Anderson

WOW - amazing what you can get the little 6502 to do. Stephen Anderson

Bomb the special blinking target markers that appear on certain bridges and buildings. Ah - I guess that's why I never got there. I always got bored and bombed the hangar to see the screen mess up. Stephen Anderson

What's the command/key to switch music in IK+ on? I'll have to check. In the version that I have, I'm sure it defaults to "on" after loading. -Larry No music for me, and it's PAL only. Crashes on NTSC after a few seconds. Top border has some flickering green rasters too. It also runs much slower on the NTSC machine. I suppose it's time to finally do the upgrades to my PAL machine and make it my main system. Stephen Anderson

How do you get to the city? I only played this a few times. Stephen Anderson
