1088XLD - Custom A8 Computer in 1050 Drive Case
Stephen replied to mytek's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
We could sure do with a better MIDI player app. I am currently using MIDI-PLAY 1.3 but it is quirky to say the least. Is anyone aware of something newer / better? midiplay.xex -
You're the one saying "do it my way", when you originally said don't buy the upgrade from Best because god forbid, it costs money. Also, there are NO springs in any of my 130XEs, 65XEs, 520STs, 1040STs that I have used these upgraded cups in. Old cups drop out, new cups go in, voila, perfectly working KB with much better feel than the original spongy crap.

There is certainly zero reason to replace the mylar when doing the new silicone domes. I've done several XEs and an ST, and I won't type on an unmodified keyboard after using the Best upgrade. Poking a hole in the original cups will come nowhere near the feel of the upgraded ones either. They have a "snap" to them. Not as good as a full mechanical keyboard, but a hell of an improvement.

I just realized, that I have listened to SO many of your awesome interviews, that I cannot read your posts, without "the voice in my head" being you reading the posts. Cool but creepy at the same time. Am I the only one that does this?

It is Ice-T XE, using APE registered as the outbound connection.

Good to hear - closure is always nice and I am sure it was very much appreciated that you could share some memories.

Just don't use plastic screws for mounting, especially if only using one (Sorry - too good to resist).

#FujiNet - a WIP SIO Network Adapter for the Atari 8-bit
Stephen replied to tschak909's topic in #FujiNet SIO Network Adapter
45 in 3 months, full-time coder as my day job. Sadly, I have no time nor energy to do A8 coding after slogging through shit for work 50 or 60 hours a week. There's VBXE stuff I am trying to learn, but when I do have some free time (and decent weather), I am working on my other hobbies - my cars. Oh yeah - yard needs cut twice a week, that's 4 to 5 hours gone. I'm an oddball that still enjoys spending time with the wife, and I also like to get a few hours of sleep per night. Sad reality of getting old I guess - I always thought I'd have more free time the older I got, but that is farthest from true at the moment. This forum and one or two BBS calls per month are the extent of my current Atari time. -
Sweet! I'll test this ASAFP and promise to not be off for such an extended period, thanks.

New technique for whitening yellowed plastic

Pretty sure it was decided decades ago on here, that ArmorAll was the protectant of choice for our vintage equipment. -
No blue colour after installing VBXL in 800XL
Stephen replied to JGroth's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I was a lifelong NTSC user until a few years ago, exclusively using PAL now. The difference in the normal boot screen is nowhere near that extreme for me. Can you search the forum for the recently posted "acp.xex" - Atari Control Picture. It will display all 256 colours, and will be a much better test. -
Because there is an internet myth (that absolutely drives me insane) stating every device needs recapped. Check out some vintage radio forums. Odd that my 6 amps (all of which output several hundred watts) ranging from 1969 through 1976 get used hours per day and have not been recapped. Nor has any game console I own, ranging from 1972 through present. Whatever floats your boat I guess - sorry for the rant. No offense meant to original poster.

I have a Panasonic KXP-2135 which is in need of some minor repairs now. The foam under the lid needs replaced, I probably need another new ribbon unless I can re-ink it, and the print head is also severely worn out (even with a brand new ribbon it prints lightly).
-
Sure has a nice heat sink inside of it. For some strange reason, I collect heat sinks. I have a large box of them, some from PCs, some from amplifiers, some from battery chargers. Don't ask - I have no clue why I like them.

Absolute calmness - sunlight beaming in the window, gentle waterfall noise from my fish-tank, and my dog heavy sleep-breathing next to me. Why do people want to leave their houses again?
-
Well there we go. That was also the cause of this same issue for me!
-
Not sure what all protections there are either - the disk will not show a valid directory so it at least has an altered VTOC.

Convert XEGS NTSC to PAL .. Is this normal?
Stephen replied to leonk's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I like where this is going. -
Well, the old Panasonic has suffered from sitting unused since moving in here nearly 5 years ago. The foam under the lid and on the bottom of the printer needs replaced. The ribbon which I bought new some years ago has also obviously dried out, it is printing so lightly as to be unreadable. I'll try the WD-40 revitalize trick. For now, I am using my registered copy of APE to send print output to my Samsung monoshrome laser (via Windows print driver). Of course I cannot enjoy Print Shop banners with this setup, but I can finally print some documentation directly from the Atari until I can get the old Panasonic working better.

Plastron Source did anyone down load it?
Stephen replied to Plastron's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I usually grab everything like this, but I don't seem to have it in my collection. Sorry. -
Wendy's had no beef today! So yeah, we're already seeing interruptions in the food supply chain.
-
Thanks - the timing could not be more perfect! I honestly just re-connected my MPP Micro-Stuffer and Panasonic KXP-2135 printer to my Atari yesterday. I'll check these out after work tonight.

Yeah - I remember buying a PD disk with 5 (or maybe 6) images from a guy named Steve Dong. They used DLIs to get more colour, but of course were nothing in complexity like these images.

Keep in mind too - there exist two "tapers" of pots. Linear and logarithmic. Logarithmic ones are used in audio equipment, You will want linear ones for use in paddles.
