I'd definitely check the belt before anything else.

Well, as much as I like to have large collections, there is not a single reason to have the 5200 if you have one of their computers. The inverse of that statement is far from true. Every 5200 game has been ported to the computer, and there are countless things the computers can do that the 5200 cannot. If space is an issue, there's one more reason for the 5200 to go.

Ants are too small - I think it's for these guys: -
Dumb question - the disk is spinning right? I don't recall if the 1050 mech has a built in strobe pattern on the bottom of the mech. Standard RPM should be 288.

The Eclaire XL does such a thing - 2X and 4X ANTIC clock. For the real hardware, we also have VBXE (for well over a decade) and that seems to only upset people and have them scream "that's not a real Atari" so it gets ignored. Altirra does a fantastic job of emulating the device, and again, nothing aside from one or two demos has been done. I don't think a mode that will only work via software emulation will really cause anything new or interesting to be done.

1088XEL Atari ITX Motherboard DIY Builders Thread

Yeah - I have not found any modern LCD panel with composite that could take a signal from any of my A8 devices and not make it look like total ass. Any CRT using composite, looks perfectly fine. -
Whoa - what is this about a CP/M emulator?

Super Pac Man Prototype Cart - Atari XE

No - they are allowed to sell intellectual property they do not own, cause trouble in the Sparta DOS and Real DOS camps, and have paranoid coders flock to them because the community is a bunch of pirates. We are not allowed to point out the obvious though. -
Keep in mind - any software based 80 column solution costs 8kB of RAM.

Robot controlled via SIO port

Welcome - pretty epic first post! -
I have a question regarding the S_VBXE driver. I am using SDX and Turbo-BASIC XL for easier code prototyping. I open a standard resolution 256 colour mode via: OPEN #6,12,3,"S2:":REM 320x192 in 256 colors I am "drawing" to the screen via BPUT#6 Is there an example of using the driver, but extending the build in graphics mode 3 so that I can use all 240 lines rather than just 192? Also, if I were to do this from within Turbo-BASIC, would the graphics commands such as BPUT, PLOT, DRAWTO work with all 240 lines or would they be constrained to the OS limit of 192?

Wow - quite a selection to choose from in the google image gallery

Sorry to hear of your issues. I also have almost no depth perception as I was born with lazy eye. Surgery corrected it, but the vision is super weak so I basically always just see out of my left eye. I did also notice that these boards were more difficult to get the solder flowing. I have a Weller soldering iron and use a very small tip. I have the temp set to 650F and I also used Kester paste flux on both the top and bottom of the pcbs as well as using a small brush to apply it to the pins of the sockets. When assembling the 1088s, I did the small things like resistors, diodes, and transistors first. Then I did the sockets, holding them flat but only doing pins 1 and 40 (opposite corners). That way, once I verified everything was correctly orientated and flat, I could rapidly flow all the remaining pins. You can get into a really good rhythm this way and I found that by listening to the sizzle that the flux makes also helps stay consistent on the time on each pin. I guess something I picked up as a welder - sound is often as important than vision on some things. The worst part of all this, was cleaning the flux afterwards as my stuff is not water based but it works so well that you can watch solder flow uphill using this stuff, before you add so much that gravity takes over and it drips. The only thing I can suggest at this point, and it is VERY tedious /boring to do, but you may want to check continuity from the pins on the top of the PCB to traces on the bottom of the PCB in the "trouble" areas. I would not recommend re-flowing the entire board at this point, but when you have that good magnifier, do make sure that there is adequate solder that has flowed to the top of the PCB. Good luck ongetting the board up and running.

What's the latest Atari related thing(s) you've bought on ebay?

Ooh boy. Googled it. Atari hobby isn't worth a divorce, age difference, etc. Oh well. It was a good thought while it lasted. -

I'd say the cases are quite durable, and it's the owners that are the delicate little snowflakes -
Using CF-3 adapter (CF based dual drive) in my 1088XLD, I get: SDX 4.49 with DMA Off (VBXE driver) Read - 90kB/sec Write - 80kB/sec Amazing setup for someone that started with a 410 (600 baud), later got a 300 baud modem, a 19.2kBaud disk drive, went to 3X SIO, and now - 90kB/sec! Insanity on this old machine.

I say it's past time for a VBXE remake of this classic game. I'm just looking for volunteers / models to photograph for the remake -

People would jump all over that I bet! Lots of requests / questions about using an Atari keyboard with their 1088 machines for example. -

If I understand your question, you want a device that can take an original Atari 8-bit keyboard and make it PS/2 compatible? I am not aware of anything that can do this. If I misunderstood, apologies. -
Look - nobody is trying to put down your efforts. If you start a thread asking what may be broken and someone gives you advice on what they think is broken, don't get pissy about it. Everyone that has posted here has done so nicely and is trying to help.

Now with that my friend, I gladly want to shake your hand and buy you a beer Talk about the proverbial olive branch - HAHA.

Not to pile on, but the soldering on the board is not-passable. When I did this for my full time job, I would fail my own work from below. However, note all the joints are smooth, shiny, consistent and the solder has cleany flowed all the way to the top. There should be no buldges (too much solder), no indents (too little solder), no flux residue left after cleaning.
