  1. Heads up... You may want to shoot them a e-mail. They have the URL screwed up for the download - http://minigamecomp.org.uk//minigamecomp/2...tari/Vonk1K.zip Note the double // after uk and Vonk instead of Vong. I had similar problems when I submitted mine. At one point my game had 3 entries on the page.
  2. What's new: The issue newcoleco mentioned has been fixed. The delay code wasn't triggering properly. The fire button will be ignored for 2 seconds when you win now (same time frame used for the normal game over). Left difficulty switch now used: B - Same game as before. A - For those who have beaten B, a little more challenge. The game will not end at 100, but will roll the score, reset the attack level, and change the color of Asgard. Clear the game 3 times to win. The color sequence goes yellow, gray, green. This will be the color of Asgard (the castle in the upper right corner) and also your high score. The high scores for the 2 variations are considered separate instances and (for as long as the game is turned on) will be retained regardless of you flipping back and forth. Switching variations will not take effect until you start a new game. So if you play a game at B, switch it to A during the game, the B game you are playing will still continue and the B high score will display when it finishes. Only after you hit fire at game over will it switch over to the A setting. I haven't had time to test this on real hardware yet, but I don't foresee and problems. Let me know if you encounter any issues.
  3. Thanks! No immediate plans for a cart release. Perhaps at some point in the future.
  4. I rewrote some of the more inefficient pieces of the program today. Got some space back.
  5. They are having problems with the compo site. You are one of the Aesir (let's just say Thor for those that don't know the stories) defending Asgard from the Frost/Fire Giants.
  6. Thanks Nathan. When I get the time, I may see if I can do anything with it. If might be fun to have it say something like "For Odiiinnnnn! For Asgaaaarrrdddd!"like out of a Thor comic book.
  7. Thanks everybody! Hmmm.... Not something I had thought about. The main goal was to keep it at 2k and compatible with all emulators for the mini game compo. Do any of the emulators support AVox yet? I don't have a AVox and haven't read up on programming for it. I assume there is a doc somewhere? If I bump it up to 4k I might try something like that (no idea what the overhead is for it). I guess it could do speech too. We'll see.
  8. I wound up using AdamEm. Good graphics and music and impressive that you were able to do it in one day. My only complaint is the lack of any sort of threat. The inclusion of a object that you shouldn't pick up would help. Something like a rake laying in the playfield that if you step on it, it flips up and hits you in the face . Or anything. Just thinking long term replay value.
  9. I haven't had time to try this yet, but I've downloaded it. There's no doc file or description in this thread. The game play in the video looks intuitive enough, but I was wondering if the game ever ended or the goal was always to get to the next message (plus your score)? Or do you have to find that out on your own? Also, I'm not as up on the CV scene. What is generally considered the best emulator out there?
  10. I had the same problem submitting my game. If they don't get back to you, redo it as a .rar file. That worked for me.
  11. EDIT: 05/14/2019 2k (no speech) & 4k (speech) versions. NTSC. bifrost_2k.bin bifrost_4k.bin
  12. As an alternative, I want to add that Williams Pinball Collection is probably the best Wii title out there.
  13. I used to have a 1969 Gottlieb Airport. It was a great machine and lasted many years. I went through bouts of playing it all the time and ignoring it. They are unbelievably heavy. If you do get one, make sure you have somebody to help you move it. Keep in mind the more complex the machine, the more likely it is to have something break. My machine was older and mostly I just had to keep changing light bulbs in various locations. I would say it is worth it if you can stay within whatever your self imposed limit is. I wouldn't mind having another one, but space is a big issue for me at the moment.
  14. Not sure. I was born in '69 and always remember it being in color. If you look at the first 5 episodes on that site, they are all in B&W. Probably the entire 1st season was B&W. As far as other stuff goes, you can't go wrong with Captain Kangaroo.

  16. You may want to wait for the re-release whenever Al kicks off the sale.

    Excellent! I love mini-game compilations.
  18. I think everybody goes through that to some extent. My second solo cart will be coming out soon and like the first I spent around a year and a half working on it off and on. You have to do it in bursts when you are in the appropriate frame of mind. This is supposed to be a fun hobby. What nobody tells you is all the fun, interesting, intellectually challenging stuff mostly happens in the first 50% of the game's development. Beyond that, you have a lot of mundane programming and testing and it starts to become like work. If it gets like that you need to take a break and come back fresh and when you have fresh eyes it usually sparks some new ideas and then even the mundane stuff isn't so bad.
  19. This naturally got the least play on the Holiday Cart last year (2 player only tends to do that ). For the Stella's Stocking rerelease the "killer hat" bug that snuck into the previous version has been fixed. Anyway, for anybody who is interested here is a stand-alone patched version of Cold War. Merry Christmas to all! cw_fix.bin
  20. Naturally the autograph is the main draw for this. I do want to mention that the game is somewhat different from the full game Neo will be releasing later. It's ony the 1st level of the larger game and the graphics & rules are a little different. Basically a proto.

  23. My advice is to go with multiple color definitions and jump to the appropriate one as needed (that's how I do it). However, it is possible to manipulate them though you would probably need to use the Superchip to do so. Attached is an experiment I did last year. I had considered doing a superhero rpg and to avoid copyright hassles I had planned to use a generic male & female sprite the player could paint to be whoever they wanted. This is the paint program. Basically you have the stretched version of the sprite at the top (to help determine what line you are on) and how the actual sprite would look on the bottom. The black line is the pointer. Up / down moves it. Right / left will change the color of the line. Note it jumps from 0 to 16 to 32 etc. To get the sub-colors, hit fire. The CL at the bottom will clear it. As you move down to a line that hasn't been painted yet it will copy the last used color. Anyway, in the end I opted not to go that route as I wanted to avoid the Superchip at all costs. This is test code, not as tight as it could be. The screenshot is my stab at Marvel Girl. paint2.bin paint2.bas
