1. Ok.... been awhile. Minor update. Looked at this for this first time in several weeks today. Took about 5 minutes to figure out my color issue (helps to walk away sometimes).
2. Forgot the good doctor's Hulk hack: http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=30157
3. For a change of pace, you might want to check out these hacks StanJr did: http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=33128 http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=64746
4. I just said it was the inspiration. I wasn't trying to do a port.
5. Thanks neo. My motto is "If you can't be good, at least try to be interesting." BTW - I'm at work too. I salute you my fellow weekend warrior. Anyway, it won't blow you away or anything. But it is a nice little time-waster. Don't be lulled by the 1st screen. It gets faster quick.
6. Out_of_Gas did this one - not DK, but since you like Popeye...... http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=65070
7. As my wife is from the PAL side of the planet, I thought I'd do one of the PAL-only games. In this case, Parachute(HomeVision). Ick. Actually, not a bad game if you ignore the graphics and sound. Anyway, using the arcade game Lunar Rescue as inspiration, I reworked it into its present form - Moonbase I. The plot: The Space Invaders & Galaxians have formed an alliance and once again attacked Earth. As the main battle rages elsewhere (which I leave for somebody else to hack), a small force has set up a blockade around the moon. It is up to you in a Apollo-era LEM to run the blockade and rescue the astronauts from their base on the moon. What's new: graphics, audio (removed the god-awful music and replaced the sound effects. Mine aren't that great either, but they aren't as distracting). Since you are now rescuing the guy on the moon, he will no longer kill you (originally you were parachuting into an enemy base). NOTE: This bin is PAL!!!! (and no, I have no intention of converting it). I suggest using Z26 to play it.
8. Play this one for a little while, then go back and play the original. It's like playing in slow motion.
9. Sky Diver disassembly w/a few comments.
10. I have fond memories of playing Sky Diver in the arcade back in the late 70's. Still holds up today in MAME. The 2600 version falls a little short, but isn't that bad. As a true arcade port (complete with the pinball bonus and whatnot) would be pretty hard to do with what there is to work with (would probably be easier to write from scratch), I decided to see if I could make a slightly better (and a little harder) 2600 version. Whats new: Made the graphics as close as I could get to the arcade game. Reduced the total number of jumps to 5 (55 points is the max you can score). DOUBLED your speed while in free fall.
11. http://patchmame.emu-france.com/simulate.html This link explains the reasoning (Nicola didn't agree with simulation). If you go to the main Mame site, the only versions not available for download are the ones that had Pong in it.
12. Uhm... actually MAME has Pong included... Greetings, Manuel 860282 I thought they took it out about the same time they removed the gambling games since it was only simulated. * pre-compiled anyway - haven't looked at the source in a long time. *
13. Don't know about everybody else, but my concern is that if there is a Fonz hack, that paves the way for a Joanie Loves Chachi hack.
14. I've often wondered about the Trek game. I've never seen one and klov only has a pic of the cab. I'm guessing it is a Space War variant with Trek-style ships a la Star Cruiser (kudos to Ramtek for using the Romulans instead of the Klingons). Anybody have any info on this one? BTW - I think the screenshot from the Fonz flyer is probably about as accurate as the screenshots on some of the old 2600 boxes.
15. A true Space Invaders Deluxe or Asteroids Deluxe couldn't be done just by changing the graphics (since you mentioned them in the other thread). If you only wanted "sorta", then that's fine. You can however, do the vector part easily. Just use BH or HOM and find the sprites you want to change and remove the insides.
16. Yes, but you can't be talking about the majority of these hacks, as most hacks are graphics hacks, and you don't need any source code for those. A quick browse through Bithacker or HOM will get you started here. 854021 True. Unless you need to change the colors. If they aren't a known commodity, you'll have to disassemble (or get lucky randomly changing stuff). Still, like you said - BH or HOM is probably the way to go to those just getting started. Picking a game you know pretty well helps as you will be able to identify the graphics easier (keep in mind, sometimes they will be upside down).
17. Yes. Plus, most of the most popular games have semi-commented disassemblies floating around and that makes it easier to do more complex changes. Much harder to do when you are the one having to make sense of the disassembly on your own (especially when you don't know what you are doing - like me. )
18. As we all seem to have different memories of the episode in question (man that was a long time ago), I looked it up over on tvtome. Turns out it was 14 trash cans. For those who haven't seen it, Nukey actually did a Fonz hack. Check it out - http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=67685 You could also take the Dukes of Hazzard game that was based off Stunt Cycle and change the car to a speedboat with a guy behind it and stick a shark in the water. "Fonz" jumps the shark. Hey Stan, Fonz could be the next Borgwars. *dodges things Stan is throwing at me *
19. Well.... as no one has reported any issues with it, I consider Stunt Cycle '76 finished. It accomplished my main goal of making it look more like the real thing. If and when anything more follows, it'll be named something else. Proving Grounds of Wor Guess I still need to mess around with it some.
20. The first way I wanted to do it was a dead end. As for the alternatives ... see screenshot. I think I understand how the ramps and buses are done. Just have to figure out where certain things are. The buses can probably be done at half the width they are now and still look ok. No matter how it is done, there is still the issue of it only being designed to go up to 9. This will require a ton of reworking on its guts. So don't get your hopes up. Anyway, I still consider Stunt Cycle '76 finished. If this thing with the extra buses ever comes to anything maybe it can be Stunt Cycle '76 Deluxe. Unless of course somebody prefers the new bus style. I'll change that if need be. Is it more arcade like, or did I accidentally create sandmountainslim's Fonz hack (the episode where he jumps the barrels, or was it trashcans? The shark came later.)?
21. That would be way cool.
22. Since it's a series, you should put all of them in one big zip file. A "boxed set".
23. Haven't given up on it, but need to step back from it for a little while. The path I was going down wasn't leading anywhere. Need to rethink my direction.
24. The Oracle speaks..... Thanks! I'll have to take a look.... see how big of a mess I can make...
