  1. Oddly enough, both of those were in the back of my mind when I came up with the name.
  2. For those who don't have time to wade through the code - here's some info on Wizard. Disassemble it & look for the following: Enemy Starting Hit Points LF7DD Colors LF7E7 LF7EA StanJr - I can easily see this one as any number of Marvel hacks (or DC, or Charlton, or Atlas ). Did you ever finish your Silver Surfer hack?
  3. Not by me anyway. I'm still relatively new to all this. The other guys like Nukey who actually know what they are doing have my utmost respect. (You too btw - thanks for making the Programming 101 tutorial). As far as the sprite goes, it would probably require freeing up some space (it's only 2k) and adding in some code. I'm still figuring out what would probably be considered basic stuff. You may have noticed there is no death sprite for the Burwor. It's in there, but I have been unable to locate the color for it, so it is the same as the original - black. Therefore it doesn't show up. It doesn't appear to be part of a table or a constant. I'm guessing maybe the result of a calculation? This was just something I kind of threw together while working on Stunt Cycle '76. I was playing Wizard and thought this would be a cool thing to do with it. Put it out mainly to draw attention to how cool Wizard is (since I don't think many have played it). Also, for everybody in the hacking community - despite what I said above about all my problems with it, Wizard was really easy to hack (at least to the point I have it).
  4. Are you worthy to face the Wizard? Test your mettle first in the Proving Grounds of Wor! This is a duel to the death between you and a Super Burwor (it can turn invisible and can phase through walls). You both have starting hit points (you 0, him 90 the 1st time, 80 the 2nd, & so on). Hit points accumulate. More than 99 - Every time you fire, your gun will have to recharge before you can fire again (you’ll turn a lighter color when you can fire). Also note, the gun has auto-aiming. There is an extra object in the maze, The Orb of Wor. Touch it to recharge faster. So, what is the parent game? Wizard, the Atari prototype. Kicks ass. They should have released it. Check out Tempest's description of it over at atariprotos.com. He explains the rules better than I can. What’s new: graphics, starting hit point values for the enemy, my best approximation of one of the mazes from Wizard of Wor (made it roomier for ease of movement and shooting around corners). ** bin removed - get the new one from the bottom of the thread **
  5. *sigh* I coulda swore it had something to do with the Dukes of Hazzard....
  6. I'm going to play around with it a bit this weekend when I have more free time. I have an experiment in mind, but I doubt it will come to anything. So for now, consider this a "final" release (unless anybody discovers some issue with it). Big thanks to everybody who contributed information and opinions. @Atariboy2600 - your stuff rocks. Thanks. Oh, BTW - to anybody who had the home unit. How many crashes did it allow per game?
  7. Is that the score for the 2nd player? If so, you'll note on the 2 player games the 2nd players score is black (it depends on who is up as to which one is showing).
  8. Whoops! This bin should fix the problem of not being able to see the option numbers during the attract mode.
  9. Here's the bin..... Note: Bin removed. Either keep going or get the one from the top of the thread.
  10. This ok? I drastically reduced the number of scanlines. It plays fine under emulation. Not sure if it will cause issues on a real TV.
  11. Hey..... really cool! The first one is my favorite. If anybody is interested, please look at the screenshots below. Should I stay with the 2600 version style ground or go with the more arcade looking alternative?
  12. Hmmm...... Interesting. May have to try to pick up a home unit sometime. One note of interest about the 2600 version: I made a semi-trained version of this hack for my son. I altered the initial speed of the motorcycle so he could just set it in motion and successfully jump a few before having to actually try to control it (he's only 2 1/2). I guessed I'd probably be able to get over the 1st 3 this way. I was surprised to find you can get over the 1st six all by going the exact same speed.
  13. The problem is I don't think anybody has actually played it before. I was around back then and I had never heard of it until you mentioned it. Hard to hack/homebrew a game if you don't know what it looks like or plays like. I just tried to hack Stunt Cycle to make it look more like the arcade game and had a really hard time since it's been 20+ years since I played it and you can't just fire it up in MAME to get a memory refresh. Same deal with this one.
  14. Here's a screenshot. BTW - does anybody have a screenshot from the old dedicated home unit? I've heard the gameplay is pretty much the same as the arcade. I'd like to see how they crammed all that on a regular tv screen. Without major alterations trying to change this would result in "Come one, come all... See Evel Knievel jump 32 matchsticks!"
  15. Trying to right yet another graphical wrong for the Atari. Maybe not on the level of Pac-Man, but it grates on my nerves. Changed Stunt Cycle to look a little more like the real thing. No more are you driving Herman's dragster from the Munsters through a oddly above ground/below ground world (jumping tombstones?). What were they thinking? Actually, that would make a cool hack... Anyway, you're now actually driving a motorcycle. For the colors, I shot for a b&w look & feel without actually going b&w. Unfortunately, I'm going mostly from my somewhat failing memories of playing it back in the late 70's. I did look at the screenshots on KLOV, and they helped a little. Note: As it has gone through a lot of changes, the original bin has been removed. To make life easier, the latest is attached here. This is also the latest screenshot.
  16. Don't forget the movie Joysticks. Unfortunately the young lady below is not seen after the opening credits. Many games in the background through the course of the movie.
  17. Just to show you, this is what I did with BitHacker. Took about 15 seconds to do. Note the hat and slightly different body.
  18. It depends on what you are trying to do. I had never really thought about doing anything with the 5200 before, so I was curious and gave it a try. If you are only wanting to change graphics - I was able to change graphics with BitHacker without any problems. I would imagine all the other programs of that type would work too. As far as disassembly, I tried using Distella. If you are looking for something easy to read, this ain't it. But it will recompile with DASM no problem.
  19. I've never done a controller hack, so take this with a grain of salt. I would imagine doing any kind of hack where you are changing the controller from one type to another would require you to have access to a real 2600 and a means to play your bin on it to test with. 4 players at once would probably be very hard to test properly with an emulator. Just something to think about....
  20. That was how I interpreted it. His spastic flying style. Now that I've read Stan's comments....
  21. I, for one, really like it. The flying animation really captures the mood. Pity sounds is so hard to do. It would be neat if you could loop a midi of the theme music. * Returns to lurking *

    1932

What, no Borgwars 1932? Data goes back in time to keep the Borg from taking over the mob, thus removing the main thorn in Prohibition's side. In turn making Americans so pissed off that they are sober that when they develop the a-bomb they nuke the whole world out of frustration. Hey, coulda happened.
  23. I would've posted the source, but a couple of MIB showed up at my door and now I don't have it. No, actually for all you newbies (like me) I consider this to be a very good "training" game. Disassemble it yourself and take a look. *cough * LF6F8 *cough* Remember, some things have "FIXED" values. 'nuff said.
