  1. Agreed. There are several games people think are worse than they are because they don't read the manual. Even the universally derided Mythicon games aren't as bad as people go on about. The author made a bad mistake in making the default game be a practice version (no score, unlimited lives). While none of them are that good, if you play variation 2, they are better.
  2. You may enjoy Cold War. You can get the rom in the below thread. Quick overview - put the cursor over one of the snowmen and press fire. While fire is depressed you can move him. Also, the status bar below him will continue to grow. That indicates how far you will throw the snowball. Once you release the snowball, you can't control that snowman as long as the snowball is in flight (you can go grab the other one). First to 3 wins. Ice walls and ice forts appear in the later rounds (you can move through your own fort).
  3. Yes, everything is set in stone. It won and that's that. Congrats to the guys in More Work. However, it does appear to be an example of an old American saying - "Vote early and vote often".
  4. Except there are plenty of photos of it in the voting pack. And for packaging, visual presentation is all that matters. For me, it would have come in 4th or 5th.
  5. I wish they'd include a few photos of the open manuals for the packaging category. Last year nobody even got to see my fave from the Dungeon II manual.
  6. I tend to think of Supercharger games as being "not 2600" games, but Supercharger games. The same with the ARM stuff. They are "Melody" games. That's not belittling them or saying they are cheating, etc. They're just their own thing. I have no interest in making one, but I understand the appeal and think it will eventually become the only game in town. If you go to the store and sort by 'Most Popular' you see a trend in each release cycle. Whatever the big ARM arcade port(s) are sell an order of magnitude more than the others, which sell in increasingly lower numbers. This is also due to everybody having a Harmony cart now and the availability of the roms. Nobody does this for sales, but it does kind of show where things are headed. As for the competition, Galagon is this year's Mappy. Zoo Keeper is next year's Galagon.
  7. I don't think the Melody logo automatically means it is an enhanced game. Dungeon II's store page has the Melody logo on it and it is a regular 4k game. I think it just means Al is using Melody boards because it makes his life easier. The "Cartridge Size" spells it out though.
  8. The "Jet Shooter" variations in Street Racer. Also, depending on your definition of shooter - Canyon Bomber.
  9. It's specifically listed as a hack here: https://web.archive.org/web/20171223121447/http://www.atari2600homebrew.com/home/category/drakon-croisade I've never seen a rom for it, but the screenshots of Goblin Chaser are underwhelming: https://web.archive.org/web/20171222172750/http://www.atari2600homebrew.com/goblin-chaser.html Also not quite sure how they are selling AA released games slightly cheaper than AA.
  10. This is pure speculation on my part, but based on the description, my guess would be whoever the author is used this as a starting point and made some changes. Nobody appears to want to drop the $22.75 to find out. People have been wondering about it for years now (almost identical conversation below). https://www.retrovideogamer.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=6965.0
  11. It'll be interesting to see how it turns out. As it stands, I foresee a sweep in the main categories and a for sure winner in the 4k, WIP, & 7800 categories.
  12. They really should have let Dick/Muttley win at least once. They won a few times in Laff-A-Lympics under the guise of the Dread Baron/Mumbly.
  13. I don't really consider Bifröst to be a WIP. It was finished long ago. The most recent changes were more of a patch to allow it to play on ZPH's funky hardware setup.

    Sokoban

Loot boxes coming to a 2600 near you! I'm joking of course, but now that you've proven the technology it'll be interesting to see how long it takes for somebody to use it for something like that.
  15. It would appear he's reading the thread. The previous text I mentioned is now gone. Here's a screenshot proving it was there:
  16. Looks like he's updated the listing with the below (not helping his case): NTSC-Users: The PAL-Games on this Cartridge will work on your NTSC-System, but the colors are different. If you need a NTSC-Version of this Cartridge, please let me know. NTSC contains most of the listed games. Some are PAL-only and will be replaced with games like Halo 2600.
  17. Looking at his feedback history, he's also been selling compilations of original era games. So I doubt this is just a one-off. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Atari-VCS-2600-16in1-Top-Games-MultiCartridge-Vol-1-/163890904276 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Atari-2600-16in1-MultiCartridge-Vol-2-Top-Games-/163895064356
  18. Permission for Dungeon II was not given. I even have a "no compilations" in the legal section of the text version of the manual in the game thread. Very sneaky. Specifically doesn't mention any of the newer games in the listing, but has links to the YouTube video.
  19. Hi James. Thanks for doing that. I've noticed over the years few people seem to have heard of the arcade game and seem to have a hard time wrapping their head around what's going on. It helps to have played or at least seen the arcade game. It was one of my faves back in the day. One other thing I want to mention, there is a small hardcore group of people who like to play Pirate a little differently than most do. They liken it to Minesweeper and the goal of the game is to win without fighting (LeDuc anyway, sometimes you have to fight the voodoo priestess or snake if they have the shovel or are covering up the X). This requires locating everything beforehand and plotting out exactly what you are going to do. Even then, LeDuc may get to the X first. But if you move away and he steals the shovel, he will also start randomly roaming the island again so you get to try again.
  20. P2/P is interesting from a historical perspective. Beyond that, I'm not sure how well it will go over in the current era. It was the second bB game to make it to the AA store (Solar Plexus was the first). It was written with one of the earliest versions of bB. None of the fancy stuff was available back then, so it is very 70's looking. P2 is B&W because the arcade game was. I made color an unlockable feature but some people just couldn't understand, so I made it a game variation also. Hit fire 3 times on the P2/P game select screen to get to the hidden Easter Egg game.

    z26 4.x

Awesome! I do a lot of my development on RHEL based systems which usually requires you to compile emulators from source. z26 has always been one of the most headache free in this regard. The new version just requires adding a -std=gnu99 to the Makefile for it to compile. Works great! Thanks!
