  1. My Internet connection to my computer sucks. I'm gonna have to get an Ethernet cable.

    1. jd_1138

Maybe try resetting your modem and wi-fi router first.

    2. Magmavision2000

I've done that multiple times. It's kind of infuriating since the package we got claims to be 3 Gbps, but since my family lives is out in the middle of nowhere, it's down to 47 Mbps. Now my phone is getting 51 Kbps and my computer can't even get a connection. Strangely, my Switch is doing fine, so I'm suspecting it's just out of range.

  2. If anyone is a fan of Gamecenter CX, there is a 24/7 twitch channel that plays every episode of the show: https://www.twitch.tv/cardfrek

    1. masschamber

yes yes I am, and that ones not ruined by that idiotic english over dubs.

    2. Magmavision2000

They play them on the stream after every other episode has been played. That's when the viewer count drops, and the people that are still there just riff on them.

      Love the Kacho!

  3. Whoa! 2 back to back Arcade Archives entries?!? This one is on Burgertime which was released today:https://atariage.com/forums/blogs/entry/16844-arcade-archives-reviews-burgertime/

  4. After 3 months, Burgertime is finally on the eshop for $7.99.

    1. digdugnate

oh sweet!  i'll have to go pick it up.

  5. New Arcade Archives Review up! This one's about the early fighting game Yie Ar Kung Fu! You can find it on my blog Magmavision After Dark.

  6. All of those findings after that huge Nintendo leak happened made me wish I actively used Twitter.

    But only a little.

    1. IntelliMission

I only have an account to be able to click on "All replies and messages", a button that prompts visitors to log in when clicked. A couple of times I have sent private messages too.

If you think Twitter sucks, remember that everyone under 25yo uses Instagram as their main social network AND chatting app. (And yes, Twitter sucks, but at least it's based around text and not images).

Thanks for mentioning the leak, I will check that now.

  7. Zelda 2 should be remade using the BOTW engine.

    1. Ryan Witmer

      Ryan Witmer

It amuses me that Zelda 2 got so much flak back in the day.  Modern Zelda games probably have more in common with Zelda 2 than the original.  The game was ahead of its time.

    2. SlidellMan

Tales of Phantasia and CastleVania: Symphony of the Night owe their existence to Zelda 2. However, I doubt that Nintendo would remake Z2 in any way, shape, or form. (Unless they release it out of the blue a la 3DS Metroid 2.)

  8. I started playing the arcade version of Punchout, and I'd never thought I would feel accomplished after beating Glass Joe.

  9. Don't you hate it when you wake up in the middle of the night and your stomach feels like it's melting?

  11. A new Arcade Archives Reviews entry is up! This one's about the infamous Nintendo game Sky Skipper!

  12. So I was looking at a German thread about Pong consoles, and one user claimed that Nintendo sold the Odyssey in Japan and made the plastic housing for the rifle peripheral. Can anyone confirm this? If so, are there any surviving examples?

    1. bluejay

Edit: Did some searching online and it does seem that Nintendo did acquire the rights to sell the odyssey in Japan, around 1974. There are very few websites that do say that, and none of them are super credible, but I have yet to find an article that says that it didn't happen. However I did find out that Nintendo sued Magnavox to try and invalidate Ralph Baer's patents for the video game, but lost. However this happened in 1985 so Nintendo had good reason to, regardless on whether they partnered with Magnavox more than a decade ago.

    2. masschamber

this probably would have been easier to research pre mario odyssey

  13. The day it's normal to put pineapple on pizza is the day I declare cereal is a soup.

    1. _The Doctor__

      _The Doctor__

um, pineapple is normal on a pizza with ham and bacon... :)

    2. Magmavision2000

While I agree that Bacon and Ham are normal on pizza, I can't say the same about pineapple.

  15. For any fans of Kangaroo, it's been added to the Archives Archives catalog today. You can get it on the Eshop for $7.99

    1. Magmavision2000

Still no signs of Burgertime getting released.

    2. thanatos

Well at that price, a good MAME collection would run about $30,000 to get it on a switch.

  16. If you want a good book about the Famicom, I'd suggest Family Computer: 1983-1994 made by the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography. It has short descriptions, high-quality photos, and original prices of every officially released Famicom game, and on top of that, it has interviews with some of the most well-known people in the Japanese game industry at the time, from Shigeru Miyamoto to Kouichi Nakamura and everything in between. And the best part? It's in both Japanese and English.

  17. New Arcade Archives Review is up! This one's on Blazing Star!

  18. The DS: 90% shovelware crap, 5% okayish games, and 5% genuinely great games.

    1. Keatah

Oh. I see. I've never been a 5-percenter. I want whatever system I get to be satisfying across several genres and offer me more. but that's me. Carry on!

    2. DuggerVideoGames

I have very few games on my 3DS, but they're so worth it.  The Legend of Zelda:  A Link Between Worlds (3DS); Metroid:  Samus Returns (3DS); Angry Birds Star Wars (3DS); Namco Museum DS (DS).

    3. BydoEmpire

Never owned a 3DS, but DS was - and still is - awesome.  Wish the screen was bigger, but my eyesight thinks that about pretty much every handheld except the PSP.  I don't know if only 5% are great, probably more true than not, but 5% of a bazzillion is still a lot of great games!

Damnit! German singer Roger Cicero also died of brain aneurysm in 2016, aged only 45...

  19. Doom + Funk = conflicting emotions.

    1. Tickled_Pink

Funky doom? Sounds like a cool way to go.

  20. Why is the Famicom revolver so expensive compared to the zapper? Did it not sell well? Are there cheaper alternatives?

    1. DragonGrafx-16

There's this but I'm not sure it would work with the Zapper.

    2. ApolloBoy

Because it was only sold for a short time and was never packed in with the Famicom unlike the Zapper.

  21. Cooking Mama: Cookstar prices have gone down by $20. Let this be a PSA for you guys. Don't buy a game thinking it will be valuable, you'll most likely lose money.

    1. Zoyous

*Looks forlornly at my wall of complete collections of Madden, FIFA, NBA and NHL games* Any year now!!

    2. pce_collector

This is true. But I bought several late releases like Beyond Shadowgate and Shining Force III with the express thought they'd increase in value over time.

  22. Beef Jerky is one of the few types of food where the store bought stuff is better than homemade.

    2. Magmavision2000

I gotta respectfully disagree with you guys. Every type of homemade beef jerky I've had tasted awful.

    3. _The Doctor__

      _The Doctor__

I'd say you need new suppliers of jerky, tenderized and properly dehydrated jerky can fall apart in your mouth, any jerky left out in the air or a paper sack may dry out hard as a rock over time. Oil can be added to take the place of water in home made jerky for those who no longer have teeth ;) there are just so many ways to make jerky and so many recipes.  Chances are your store bought jerky was a home made recipe at one time, might have some garbage in it to make you want more (MSG) or some moisture added back in, almost all store bought jerky is of lower quality these days... right down to the cut of meat used.

    4. thanatos

There are at least two local jerky makers I know of that has fantastic stuff.  I would technically call it homemade because it is only sold in person in small batches.  Sort of like the old pickled egg jar at a bar.

So I would have to disagree.

  24. Milk is just cheesy water.

    1. retrorussell

Skim milk is just white water.  Yuck..

    2. Atarian7

I've been having skim milk since I was a kid.  I'm so used to it that milk with more than 1% fat is gross to me.

    3. retrorussell

Yuck; my folks drink skim milk.. 2% is just right for me.  I used to drink 3.whatever% but that's a bit much now.
