  2. Fun Fact: In the late '80s, for a very short time, Pepsi had the 6th largest navy in the world since the USSR traded them billions of dollars worth of ships for Pepsi.

Yep!  17 submarines and 3 warships,  which Pepsico acted as a middleman to scrap them...Rubles were not used as currency since the Russian Govt controlled them, (and a Russian Vodka deal fell apart after the Soviets invaded Afghanistan) so this was a deal for payment...HMMMmmm   Ya know Magmavision,   I don't even know if I would have believed this story without looking it up!

I have not tried making Nintendo broth lately.  The last time I did, I mixed it with SEGA noodles and it turned out poorly.

@GoldLeader That sounds like either Greed or Birth of A Nation. It was probably Greed though since Birth of A Nation isn't really safe for work.

    3. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

Maybe Greed...Definitively not Birth of a Nation.

    4. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

I just looked it up!  It Was GREED!  I remembered the guy was a Dentist in San Francisco.  Good Job!  I can't believe you figured it out!  I watched the reconstructed 4 hour version (processed for Pay Per View on DISH actually)...

  13. Here's a shower thought for you.

What language do babies think in?

  14. Here's a thought, think about all the classical compositions that are permanently lost. Or don't.

    1. BydoEmpire

      BydoEmpire

I thought I read years ago that Bach was almost a forgotten composer entirely.  Can you imagine?

    2. carlsson

      carlsson

The first recorded use of the term "classical music" dates to Oxford English Dictionary, c:a 1829. It was meant to canonize the golden age between Bach and Beethoven. While most orchestras probably prioritized playing the latest, contemporary compositions (just like today's popular music tends to dominate the total music consumption), apparently Bach wasn't entirely forgotten by then or otherwise the term would not cover music eras back to his time.

But yes, a lot of music has been lost, in particular those composed by other people than white, middle aged men. For instance many women apparently were just as competent as male colleagues but didn't get performed or recognized as much. While Wikipedia lists ~400 female composers born between 2300 BC and 1875 AD, I imagine a lot of digging has happened in the past 50 years and many probably only small fragments of their production are known.

We know THAT ain't against the law in Oklahoma!

  16. How do you load a disc on an Atari 8-bit?

    1. carlsson

      carlsson

Often those are auto booting, so insert disk and power on computer. Perhaps hold down Option if you've got a XE/XL computer and the program is so large that you must disable built-in BASIC.

    2. MrMaddog

      MrMaddog

Make sure you turn on the drive first and wait for it to stop spinning, then insert the disk and when it stops spinning (again)...then you can turn on the Atari.

Otherwise you'll get the words "BOOT ERROR" all over your screen.

So is the PLA.. common failure, but if yours is good, that's an easy $30.

  20. How much would you say a Color TV Game system would cost?

  21. I accidentally bought 2 of one item on eBay, so I sent a cancellation request (keep in mind, this was right after I realized I had bought more than one). It got shipped so my request got rejected. Oh well, I guess I'll have two DS chargers.

I ordered 2 GBA battery doors on Ebay a while back for 2 GBAs that where missing battery doors (A white and a clear pink one) so I could sell them... the seller just said send a note of which colors I wanted... instead of getting the 2 colors they were both pink. The seller said he messed up and would send me a white one but it never arrived.

    3. jd_1138

      jd_1138

Yeah that sounds like modus operandi for most sellers.  They instantly marked items "shipped" even if they won't actually be shipped for a day or two.  Kinda sucks, but at least it's something you might need in the future.

    4. DragonGrafx-16

      DragonGrafx-16

As soon as the shipping label is printed it is marked as shipped by Ebay... the seller should have noticed something weird had happened when two different orders of the same item were from the same buyer...
