  1. Personally, if I had raised money for a book up front and not used my own money, I would put the backers right up front in the introduction pages. Obvious one this, really, as Kieren sees himself not as a humble human being like the rest of us but as a 'game historian','serious journalist' and all round King of the Moon, surely this is on par with receiving a signed guitar from Paul McCartney. You can even hear him enunciate the numbers in an over the top how can you not buy this fashion 'SIX!' like ironically his fellow hawkers on the likes of QVC. Touché. So he can write even less of his book you mean ? And be paid handsomely for it. How on earth these beautiful mocked up images did not light a potential backer's fire is beyond me. I also love how Dizzy would feature extensively as of course The Olivers are his very good friends, despite the boys pointing out this is very much NOT the case. What exactly is that title supposed to mean anyway. On a Budget works. But why would 8 Bit On a Budget make any sense what-so-ever? It's as if he is making a point that Budget games were in some way an anomaly whereas they were very much the norm and a huge part of most of our collections.
  2. I can. This makes hilarious reading and although I was just intending to lurk I thought you all might want see the full extent of his madness... https://unbound.com/books/8-bit-on-a-budget/levels/
  3. Both of these, for the same commodore 64 game, are terrible, but in their own ways. Why the heck would you draw a hero from a computer game as a guy in a business suit with a briefcase? The other one is just as bad, as it implies that the game play is some kind of stealth James Bond cum Saboteur game. I assume that the artist who did the first had never seen a computer game and looked at Pacman for inspiration. The second, having never seen a computer game either looked to movies for inspiration.
  4. Ah ! Very good. I might have a go at this when I feel better.
  5. Always loved the compact and punchy look of Game Boy game boxes. Anyone tell me why Kirby has 'done a birdie' and changed colour from game to game ? * Birdie was a character in SF1, he was English and White. But in later games aside from other substantial asthetic changes he was Black.
  6. Yeah the clamshell was a good shout by the design team. But that graph paper background, urg! I remember not really rating much Master System art. Though I remember the sonic ones well. They were awesome. Couple of other goodies - Streets of Rage.
  7. I could have sworn that I had replied to this post already, but, reading back I can't see it... Yeah it is well drawn. I think it does not help with the compulsory 'graph paper' 'maths book' background that was used. I know why they did this though, because if they all look like they come from the same collection or set they will appeal to avid collectors much like 8 bit budget games having numbers along the spine. It generates other sales just by being part of a whole. Think Hit Squad titles say.
  8. I'm sorry, Anders, I don't get the reference mate. Can you enlighten me ?
  9. Maybe some kind of Browser Add-On that you just clicked, remind me and it did 10 minutes 5 minutes or 2 minutes before depending on what preferences you have selected, say. I'm going to have a good go at some of this in the coming weeks.
  10. Well... this is true when there is a lot on the table, of course, though I wrote my first WebBot the other day and I don't think it would take much for me to do a sniper tool of my own, with built in notifications, but no 'Watch' because the more that watch the more the emails go flying about. The less activity the less it gets spread about. The point of it is, you might get stuff much cheaper using that technique than if you you either bid and end up getting shill shafted or you watch it, then the price goes up because every watcher gets a notification of the number of other watchers. They've effectively whipping up the interested parties.
  11. Yeah ? Each to their own I suppose. I used to think it was very bland. The game was pretty good as far as my fuzzy brainbox remembers it!
  12. Ding Ding Ding! WE have a WINNER! Who on earth is thinking for one moment that Kizza would not screen capture *anything he thought he could use as leverage against someone at some point in the future and secondly not have instantly unloaded the lot to Sarah in PM with immense almost sexual satisfaction when he had that chance, well no-one is the answer to that question. Sarah of course being new to all his devious duplicitous venomous tactics just took his word initially, as a good person, then you see how she begins to suspect the truth that the boy is lying his arse off. We all know once something is on the net it is near impossible to remove like indelible ink or the mythic Lady McBeth's 'spot'. I give her credit for being savvy enough to smell his bullshit but couldn't confirm. I too was once very naive about him. As I've said before I've met him a few times. When I first met him he seemed a bit weird but nothing dangerous, then just like Sarah/OK or Hannah/RP or others I found a deluge of past transgressions that make my stomach churn. + Oh yes, and while he may not have any training as a writer, he has spent the best part of 15 years learning his sickening brand of stalking.
  13. Please see picture proof of Kieren Hawken's invisibility cloak at work! Yep! The truth is indeed out there! Ha ha ha. HA HA HA. Ha Ha.
  14. Actually, have you been to retro events here in the UK? Not many women go and I remember a girl with bright pink hair (and I want to say glasses) milling about at at least one of them!
  15. Ah yeah, sorry. I will now go away and die. Well yes, I remember that you did the cuddly toys didn't you, and PA and KH did all their gentlemanly stuff. You supported your friend, through her horrible situation. That's lovely. Well I remember that I PM'd you as well and you have nothing to be ashamed of either. I won't edit my post, I appreciate I've just made a huge faux pas but NEITHER OF YOU or any others who he has been very nasty about need feel guilt about any of this. Of course people react badly sometimes. Sometimes you are angry. ________________________ Ps my heart's in the right place. I hadn't heard of some of the people involved Octav1us Kitten, Retro Princess, George Cropper before. I happily hold my hands up that I wasn't involved, but it doesn't stop me from caring for you, your good friend or anyone affected by Kieren. I also spent a lot of time reading through everything that did happen if anyone is wondering; I do get names confused, I am dyslexic. I remember thinking Simon was Scottish at an event where he and others were signing the Ocean books. I had madly confused him with Bill Harbison.
  16. I don't know you, but as I said in a PM here that you may not have read, You have no reason to feel ashamed. You were scammed by a scumbag who took us all for a ride for a long time and the positive thing is, your experience with him (which I for one only came to know of after-the-fact) and its fallout has exposed the absolute depths to which he will sink. I knew he was a prick before but no-one here blames you, because you were a victim of all this. I don't speak for anyone but me, but on this occasion I think I can. I hope you can move forward. Also, in my message I said that you shouldn't feel awkward about your early videos where you wore cat ears and were a little coquettish. So what ? It was a bit of fun. If I had a nice face and loved retro I might do it myself ? No-One on youtube acts like they do in videos in real life and everyone projects a persona of some sort anyway and if you've moved on from that cool. But don't let some parasite live in your head. Oh and please don't be conflicted about this, he isn't a nice person, he either gets help or not but it won't undo all the callous things he has done. I only found your youtube and your work though all this. I had never heard of you before, but that doesn't stop me from caring and hoping you're doing better now.
  17. No, It is a good distinction you make because... As it features all his sockpuppet accounts, you could make a good case (see what I did there) for the prosecution that by acknowledging that was indeed a cartoon depiction of him, has in-fact by nature of implication admitted they are/were all his accounts.
  18. In this hopefully short intermission can I take a moment to show this. Meanwhile, over on the spectrumcomputing forum... He will never live it down, the boy. Re: The best Speccy game by CDS Microsystems: vote Quote Post by PeteProdge » Sat Feb 15, 2020 10:14 pm Ooooh, boy. Out of all the weeks where the mythical Steve Davis Snooker 128K could be brought up again, it happens when the fantasist behind it, is the major target of (very justifiable) anger. Steve Davis Snooker 128K does not exist. It has never existed. It was the invention of 'Mr Kizza' aka Kieren Hawken, probably better known as the 'Laird' of Laird's Lair. Years ago, he wrote on the AtariAge forum that he wrote this game for the ZX Spectrum, along with some budget titles. Some huge huge stuff has kicked off this week about him. I know this forum likes to avoid drama, so all I can say, is take a look elsewhere for what Kieren has been up to!
  19. To be fair, Craig has shown a lot of restraint up to this point. I've heard things said about him that I am pretty confident originate from the boy himself and Craig is completely justified in anything that comes next.
  20. At the end of the day it is most likely you spending your entire life on the internet arguing with a group of more than a hundred people who all have genuine grievances (plus me chipping in), and the circus that it brings into her / your lives Kieren, that is making your wife cry. How many times have people told you that you need to seek medical help, mentally ? She probably can't take it anymore and I for one feel for her. And that is real empathy, something you seems completely devoid of. At this stage or far before it, I'd probably have packed it all in, shut it all down. If I really did love my wife and kids and wanted not for her / them to get upset and hurt by all this bullshit, you have brought apon yourself, I'd go get a proper job and stop playing at being a 'writer'. You come from a comfortable middle class background, you've got options! go work in a bank like your brother. Maybe that would be too hard, you've had years of living off the work of others. Stop being the proverbial scorpion in the scorpion and the frog and go ask for some C.B.T or something. You should heed the advice on Simon's last podcast where he urges you to stop all this because it is inevitable (and it may not be too far away) that someone WILL bring all this right to your front door and IT WILL affect in serious ways your family. That is no threat from me, I am just pointing things out. That is the reality. Your behaviour has been so bad that you cannot and will not get away with it much longer before it turns Real Life nasty. I know I don't like you, since everything I learnt after the ROM thing, but... I don't want you to get a serious kicking either. You probably deserve it, but you could end up in hospital in a bad way, for what ? For a bunch of horrible things and lies you have said on the internet. Come on, get your shit together. You, you are going down a dark set of steps Kizza. What you do is up to you but if you keep pushing people's buttons expect a fist to emerge from the darkness and put you on the floor. I come from a working class tough council housing estate. Your kind of behaviour would not have been tolerated for a split second. You've been shielded from the real world and its realities by your background. Live in the real world, why don't you ? I wonder if she knew what YOU had said and how YOU had behaved towards other women, would do to her, would that make her cry ?
  21. I don't think Guru Larry would be an appropriate host. For one thing the GamerGate fallout showed him for what he is, a money grabbing morally devoid chancer, he's not exactly impartial in anything. As much as I have enjoyed a few of his videos (I like the production values and the cartoons) I also note that a lot of them have inaccuracies in them. I wonder where they came from? What's that you say, Kizza wrote some of them? Well that could never be the case then, surely? If it was Larry it would be a couple of arseholes talking shit. Or the many voices / mass debate option which would be highly appropriate seeing as the focus is a massive wanker.
  22. Wow Jealousy burns hard, huh Kieren ? All those talented chaps doing things you can't like coding and putting out games. Awww babby wants a hug! And what's with all your homophobic overtones ? You know a lot of closeted men behave like this to try to convince themselves they are not gay.
