OK - I never expected this to generate such strong feelings! Never let it be said that I don't listen to feedback, so I have decided to keep Hunchy 2 in the store. The main reason that I wanted to remove it was my own dissatisfaction with the finished product - I'm now planning to tidy it up around the edges and release an updated version, though it may be another decade before this happens! Apologies to anyone who purchased a copy on the understanding it was being discontinued.
Thanks for all the feedback!

IMO you shouldn't do so. This may start a dangerous trend which I wouldn't like to see happen.
Also your arguments are weak, because you have to compare your game with other 4K releases. And definitely not with 32K, extra RAM, ARM-driven ones (or anything that comes even remotely close). And compared to other 4K games, Hunchy II still shines.
The only reason I would accept would be a better version of the game from you.

Hi Thomas,
Can you say more about why you see this as a dangerous trend? IMO the AA store could use some pruning of the weaker titles - I'd personally like to see it as a showcase of the best homebrew that the 2600 has to offer (quality over quantity). For Hunchy 2, the ROM is freely available, so nothing will be lost as it can still be played on Stella, using a Harmony Cart, and even on the Flashback Portable. Is your main concern that collectors will push up the prices of the unavailable carts to insane levels?
I agree from a technical perspective that it doesn't make sense to compare a 4K game against the latest 32K DPC+/CDF releases. However, I suspect the majority of folks purchasing homebrews are not aware of these details. All they will see is that Hunchy 2 doesn't compare favorably against titles like Stay Frosty 2? I'm concerned that someone will purchase this title based on the high reviews and come away with an unfavorable impression of the 2600 homebrew scene.
I would also like to purge this title for personal reasons - this was my first 2600 title and I really should have spent more time polishing it around the edges. The sound effects are poor, there are not enough levels, and the presentation is amateurish. If I had more spare time, I would produce an enhanced version to correct these flaws, but this isn't likely to happen anytime soon.

I have asked Al to remove Hunchy II from the AtariAge store at the end of the month. It has been available for 12 years, and in that time the quality of AA homebrews has increased to the point where I no longer think this game represents good value for money.
If you still want to obtain a copy of the game on cart, this is your last chance:

For my own homebrews:
1) Juno First
2) Star Castle Arcade
3) Chetiry

One more binary - this was my attempt to reboot the project using the SARA superchip, instead of the Supercharger.
Just a 1 screen demo, but a nice kernel nonetheless.

I'm afraid this is my fault - my personal circumstances have changed such that I can't take on a project of this size for the foreseeable future.
Ivan spent a lot of time completing the sprites and animations, and it would be great is someone else could take on this project.

You are welcome to put Juno First up there (https://atariage.com/forums/topic/125269-juno-first-final-version-atari-2600/).

Fred (batari) is a very busy chap, but also very reliable - you should receive your cart in 2 to 3 weeks.

If you don't mind a bit of soldering, mojoatomic is selling cap replacement kits for the 2600:

Updated BUS for digital sample support. No problem with commit this time - looks like I forgot to check this option (bottom-left corner of Xcode's Commit form) when I committed the CDF changes:
Nice work - thanks Darrell.

I would like to purchase an S-Video mod for an NTSC Atari Jr 2600 console.
- I am aware of the Etim RGB mod, but this seems like overkill for a cheap Jr.
- The Longhorn S-Video mod appears to have been discontinued.
- The Batari S-Video mod would be the best choice, and was previously sold by Electronic Sentimentalities, but appears to be unavailable at present for personal reasons.
- There is an S-Video mod on eBay from a UK seller (possibly Longhorn variant?), but appears to be only for PAL consoles.
Are there any other options that I have not considered, or is the RGB mod my only choice at this time?
Thanks,
Chris -
There is a rebase.autostash option for git that will automatically stash/un-stash your changes when you pull and rebase. Is there some way to enable this option for Xcode?

If you switch off the Atari while a game is loading then there is a small chance the BIOS will get corrupted (I wrote the Harmomy BIOS).

Reflashing the BIOS will probably fix it - try following the instructions in the manual.
You can also download the latest 1.05 version here:

So, the RPG demo is drawn in 8 pixel blocks every 9 pixels? Weird. So every ninth pixel being blacked out is an intended side effect. I did not realize that.
So it appears I have a "very good" 7800 when it comes to bus stuffing. That is positive news, given the ROM corruption issues I and others had with Concerto, prior to simply flashing the Harmony BIOS on it.It is 8 pixel blocks with a gap of 8 pixels. The CRT is not very precise at switching the beam off and on, so you see a gap. The effect is less visible on some TVs and if the console has a svideo or rgb mod.

Your Atari is nearly 40years old - if you bought a 40yr old car, would you expect it to perform like a new one?
If the power supply is going bad it will affect your other games soon enough, and cleaning the cart port is something that needs to be done regularly. You can get a new power supply for around $10.
If you really want to get rid of it, sell it on the marketplace forum. I don't see why Fred should take a loss when the cart likely works perfectly.

From the video, this looks like a power supply glitch that is causing a "frying" effect on the console. The Harmony cart draws more power than a standard Atari cart and this can be problematic with aging power supplies. Try the following:
1) Clean the cartridge port carefully - if there is a poor contact it can cause issues
2) Purchase a new power supply - a modern switching power supply will perfrm much better (there are lots on eBay)

There are 2 versions of Star Castle on the 2600. Do you mean "Starcastle Arcade" in the Atariage store, or the earlier Kickstarter "Starcastle" by D. Scott Williamson?

This suggests an issue with your joysticks - what kind are you using?
-
Does it keep scrolling if you unplug the joysticks?
-
You can use mine. It doesn't not work as bad as some of them do though (I think that made sense). Would you want one that didn't work typically, or the worst case?
Thanks Nathan - it doesn't need to be the worst case. I'd like to buy it from you though, as I'd need to do nasty things to the insides of the console!

I would really like to get one of the Jrs that doesn't work with bus stuffing to do my own testing. I've bought 4 PAL Jrs now and they all work fine! If anyone would like to sell their non-working NTSC Jr (and doesn't mind shipping to the UK) - please let me know!

Displaying a page of text on 2600, possible?
in batari Basic
Posted
The best that can be done on the 2600 currently is 32 characters (with some flicker), though not using batari basic:
