  1. Hello, everyone. For some time, I hosted/maintained a website that offered free downloads of Ad Lib music which I, myself had ripped from various PC (DOS) video games. However the music was stored in a special format which required people to actually *have* an Ad Lib compatible sound card (a rarity, these days) or use *gasp* emulation to play back the music. The site eventually closed, because I wanted to offer something that could be more universally accepted and enjoyed. Today, that has happened. As of today I am proud to present... The Ad Lib music archive v2 @ adlib.oldergames.com Each song is recorded using special hardware that connects directly to the YM3812 chip on the Ad Lib sound card, for the absolute highest possible quality. Since the recorded songs are stored in MP3 format, you can enjoy listening to them using your favorite music player -- comfortably reliving the good old days. In addition to being a nice, little site that will grow as time allows me to record / edit / process / add new soundtracks, its official opening marks the start of the "OlderGames" internet domain being used, under my ownership, as a free tribute site to various aspects of classic gaming in general. Thanks for your attention and interest, everyone. Enjoy the site and have a nice day.
  2. I can tell you one thing, though: YOU HAVEN'T TRULY EXPERIENCED A MOVIE UNTIL YOU'VE SEEN IT ON LASERDISC. ^^ Just look at the bliss on my face!
  3. Wow. He really doesn't want to sell that thing... The Laseractive is no rarity 9, and besides that, the economy is poop. He should be glad to get rid of it for a cool $200. ...and I hope that "knowledge" does him a lot of good as his Laseractive sits on the shelf, unused and unsold, for many years to come.
  4. I paid under $200 (shipping included) for my Laseractive with Sega PAC and one Pioneer-branded Genesis controller. No movies or original system remote came with the unit, and I had to open it up and clean the Laserdisc arm with an eraser so it would correctly play movies again. Aside from that minor issue it was in great condition and has worked flawlessly. This, surprisingly, was an eBay deal. As a Genesis + Sega CD, the Laseractive works fine. If you don't mind having a Genesis + Sega CD the size of an aircraft carrier, that is. And having Laserdisc support is nifty, if there's something in particular you want to watch that isn't available on DVD. Such was the case for me - two officially released Chicago concerts from 1993 were released only on VHS and Laserdisc. For obvious reasons, VHS wasn't going to be an option for me. I have/use the Laseractive mostly for game testing purposes. It's a "neat" machine, but I'd never have paid more for it than I did. If you feel like paying $400 to get one, make sure you've done your homework first and that you're pretty psyched about it. The offer you're looking at may seem like a 'bonus' because it comes with a small collection of Laserdisc movies, but most Laserdisc movies can now be had for cheap, and the fact that you must physically remove and flip the disc in the middle of watching the film is quite annoying. This is true even of Glengarry Glenross, my favorite film, which is only 100 minutes long.
  5. Any and all future products will be announced on the front page of the superfighter.com website when they are ready, and e-mails will be simultaneously sent to all existing customers (such as yourself). Thank-you, I'm glad to hear that.
  6. I was fortunate enough to finally get an article about myself and Super Fighter Team published in a local news publication, something I'm very thankful for. Check it out from the link below, along with a very cool and unique French article about Legend of Wukong which comes with a brief history of the Mega Drive... *** San Diego City Beat article about Brandon Cobb and Super Fighter Team *** Koikispass article about Legend of Wukong (written in French) Thanks for your interest.
  7. Thanks! It's always nice to have notes of support like this, I appreciate it. The interview for Specialty Gamer was fun; it was especially cool to be asked about the unearthing of Fatal Encounter. Hopefully you guys have a lot of success with that site. It seems you're having fun already, which is always the most important part.
  8. Legend of Wukong made its first public event appearance at this year's Byte-Back event in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England (March 7-8, 2009). Presented for free play along with Beggar Prince, both games were also available for purchase in limited quantities. *** Byte-Back 2009 photos *** Thanks for your interest.
  9. Congratulations. Welcome to the next level. The age-old advice of cleaning your cartridge's metal contacts as well as the Genesis system's cartridge slot contacts is the best advice to start with. Sega-16 is a great website to visit if you want to learn more about the Sega Genesis, its games, etc., as well as have questions answered about the system. As a Genesis enthusiast, I highly recommend it. Luckily, only a handful of games require you to hold down the "mode" button at startup when using a 6-button controller. I think if you give it a fair chance, the Genesis will impress and amaze you.
  10. Unfortunately. The Super A'can was Taiwan's first (and only) completely unique and original video game console (i.e. it isn't a clone of another machine). Manufactured and released by UMC in 1995, the A'can quickly lost its maker over USD$6M as it completely and horribly failed on the market. Why? Because out of the 12 games released for the machine, most of them are absolute poo. Collecting for the A'can isn't the easiest thing in the universe. I own several systems and a complete set of games, but only because I have the right connections. One of the games, Rebel Star, is actually quite rare according to the very few A'can collectors I spoke with in Taiwan; in fact, some of them didn't believe that the game was released at all until I provided them with a scan of the cover art. For some reason I decided to bring an A'can system and four games along with me to France for 2007's Retro-gaming Connexion. You can view some photos from the event if you so desire. No one at the show had ever heard of it before, so most of them were pretty excited -- that is, until I turned it on, causing them all to recoil in horror. If any of you want more information about this tragic machine, the Super A'can entry on Wikipedia is actually informative, unlike the 'vanillaicemedia' page you linked to. This is mostly because I wrote the majority of information found in the Wikipedia entry. Yes, ashamed of it as I may be, I am a rabid A'can enthusiast. As you ponder that, however, keep in mind that I'm also obsessed with absolutely worthless machines like the Watara Supervision and the Bit Corp. Gamate. So don't get excited. The A'can isn't good, and it isn't fun, and it will make you cry. Basically what I'm saying is that if you had any thought to ever pick up an A'can and some games - erase that thought from your mind right now. Seriously. You'll spend lots of money trying to collect the games, and in the end all you'll have to show for it will be sadness and guilt.
  11. In 2002, when I first became interested in the Game.com, I didn't bother to do any research about it; I just hopped on eBay and quickly snapped up all the games + variations of the system, all for super-low prices. What can I say? It was during my handheld collecting phase. Sadly, the system is nothing but very cheap, farmed out Hong Kong technology offering a very poor selection of games. I don't remember ever actually enjoying _anything_ on the Game.com, ever, at any time. My excitement was quickly demolished, replaced by guilt for having spent even a piddly little amount of money on such... garbage. However, in 2004 I was cleaning house a bit and came upon an extra, new in package Game.com system and Scrabble game. My girlfriend at the time was helping me go through stuff, and when I found these items I offered them to her for free. She was actually happy with the Game.com, and played Scrabble quite frequently (much to my annoyance - how anyone could enjoy themselves with a Game.com is beyond me!). So even though my personal experience with the machine is poor, I can attest to having seen someone actually enjoy a game on it. However I'd never again subject a girlfriend (or even an ex-girlfriend!) to the system. Ever. That said, I wager a decent game could have been developed for the system, if anyone would've ever given a rat's ass to try it. But no one did, THE END.
  12. I voted for the Apple II version [!!], because nobody else will! It's far from perfect, the music stinks and it's occasionally buggy, but it's the version I grew up with.
  13. The website project2612.org features complete, timed and tagged Sonic the Hedgehog soundtracks from the Genesis games, as well as a plethora of other Genesis game soundtracks. It's all stored in a format called VGM, which can be played using a specialized WinAMP plugin. Check it out!
  14. Here are a few, new press features regarding Legend of Wukong, the Retroaction article being a very lengthy, detailed review of the game which includes exclusive screenshots. *** Retroaction magazine review of Legend of Wukong *** Specialty Gamer interview with Brandon Cobb *** Sega-Brasil interview with Brandon Cobb (in Portuguese) We have also sponsored and will be represented at this year's Byte-Back event in Stoke-on-Trent, England, the weekend of March 7-8, 2009. Thank-you for your attention.
  15. Yay, an Apple II thread! My first computer (circa 1987) and my eternal favorite! Here, in no particular order, are a few of the games I enjoy most on my Apple //c : * Star Blazer * Neuromancer * Where in America's Past is Carmen Sandiego? * Moon Patrol * Space Quest II * Bard's Tale II * Lode Runner * Below the Root ...and more, though not that I can recall off the top of my head. Best computer ever.
  16. My pleasure. Actually, "It" came in several different flavors. The article goes into detail as to why the Genesis version was so different than the others.
  17. Hello, everyone. Since Cinemaware's website offers a free, legal download of the unfinished / unreleased Sega Genesis version of their "It Came From The Desert" videogame, I gave it a try. While it isn't the most fascinating game in the world, I wanted to know more about it and why it was ultimately cancelled. To get the answers I talked to Matt Harmon, who designed and developed the game for New World Computing. The resulting article was written for and submitted to Sega-16.com, who posted it today. If you're curious, come and have a read: *** It Came From The Desert for Sega Genesis - the developer's story

  19. Video Game Trader magazine published a "first look" at Legend of Wukong in this month's issue, written by me. Their only error was to print that the game was due for release in early 2009. In fact, it was released officially on December 03, 2008. *** Video Game Trader's "first look" at Legend of Wukong *** Thanks for your attention.

  21. Hello. Talk about an old post, but I wanted to clarify something: Zaku for the Atari Lynx is a 100% brand new and original game, with all content being created from scratch by the development team. While Air Zonk was an inspiration to the developer, Zaku is most certainly not a 'clone' or 'hack' of that game. Please refer to the official Zaku website for more information, or to sign up for the Zaku mailing list. If you have any questions about the game, please feel free to contact me directly. Best wishes for 2009!
  22. Hello, everyone, and Merry Christmas to you. If you own any of the following mobile phones: Nokia 3600, 3620, 3650, 3660, N-Gage, N-Gage QD, 6600, 3230, 6260, 6620, 6670, 6710, 6630, 6680, 6681, 6682, N70, N72, N90 - you're invited to come try out our newest game: Super Fighter Block Battle - completely free of charge! In development since 2005, it's our first official follow-up to Super Fighter, and we're very excited to finally be releasing it to the public. The gameplay is a Tetris variant that offers two ways to win or lose: Either by the screen filling up or through players taking too much damage! This unique approach offers up a real challenge, especially when the pieces are dropping quickly! Three different game modes are included, one of them being a Bluetooth two-player mode. Thanks for your interest, and please drop by the Super Fighter Block Battle website to have a look at this new, free game! --- While many of you may not consider a mobile phone game to be "classic", I'll explain my reasons for posting about it in this particular forum section: For one, it is an official follow-up to the original Super Fighter game from 1993. Secondly, it was developed for the 2nd generation of Series 60 Symbian handsets, which are now being phased out in favor of the newer, more advanced devices. To mobile phone enthusiasts, the 2nd generation platform truly is "classic" by today's standards.
  23. IGN was nice enough to publish an article about our games, covering all of them in accurate, respectful detail: *** IGN article about Super Fighter Team Thanks for your attention.
  24. Thank-you for your positive note of support. It brightened my day and was very inspiring, and I appreciate that.
