They're mostly interested in the YM chips, which is just going to continue for a while, as they're mostly interested in the Sega consoles, more specifically, the Sega Genesis....

Why would you expect the POKEY to never have a proper tracker? Is it because you think the fan base for the 8-bit line is too small to make what I said too good to be true?
-
The bug is a pain in the neck sometimes. The hard-restart workaround doesn't help?
I tried doing that, but the music then sounds choppy. If it helps, I'm using Deflemask. Also, I wish that Delek, the boss of the project, would put the POKEY into his tracker, as it's a multi-system tracker as well; you can almost instantly convert a song from one system to another .

I see that you got my idea about Moon Patrol; great work! Now, what is the offset of the byte that determines the pixel width of the enemy ships? I would like to jump into this project too please!

I tried tracking this tune on the SID, and well... the ADSR bug took a hit on this song! I think that's why most songs on the SID are so slow!

Buying an XEGS in 1981 is more like time traveling, as the XEGS won't be out until fall 1987 .... so I have no idea if you got the date wrong or what you thought you saw .... either way, memory fails people.
Sorry... When I was referring to the date of 1981, I was referring to the Atari 800, not the XEGS...
-
When I went to my uncle's house for the first time, I turned on the XEGS, and played Bug Hunt. Since I was just a little kid, I thought that it was a 2600. They also had moon patrol, asteroids, koala paint, flight simulator II, chess...
-
My uncle bought an XEGS, and an 800 for my cousin... I guess they were pretty rich back in 1981! XD

Could we use bitmap mode, and then just make the green of the beatles hardware players, since they're only 4 of them normally?
-
In this case with the background, it's just stars; so just use interrupts, and the hardware missiles for the stars. Now all that you're left with are the enemies, missiles, and players. Does that simplify it at all?

Why would be bitmap modes "lot slower with soft sprites" ? It can be in some cases, but in general ?
According to peteym5:
Using a graphic 15 (bitmap) screen will make it difficult to render movement within a single VBI cycle. Also use up considerable memory to store the graphics patterns of the 4 bit shifts of the enemy ships. Antic 4 character set mode makes it easier to move "soft sprites" at a reasonable frame rate.
-
Okay... looking at it, the fifth register is not used, and they've just used four colors, even in mode 4.
-
let's go
Xxl, I'm pretty sure it's using mode 15, which is a bitmap mode, and bitmap mode is a lot slower with soft sprites, but it's a good start! Our efforts should be more directed towards using something like mode 12 for the game.

If we could do Mario, we can do Galaga, if DMCA doesn't screw us up

So, I think colpf0-3 and colbk is reserved for the enemy colors and the black, and colpm0 and colpm1 is reserved for the white of the ships. Is that our basic color register scheme?
-
I'm just going to wrangle us back to the subject that was intended, because I hate flamewars. So, yeah... Galaga on the 8-bits...

Well, its because a good challenge is sometimes worth it. VBXE has an 80 column resolution, but to be fair, many of the other games for even the VIC 20 dont have special graphical capability expansions, maybe just more ram, but thats besides the matter. In fact, the VIC chip was even designed in 1977! If even the VIC 20 were designed around the same time frame, why should we give the Atari a leading edge from its stock hardware, and even its competition? Also, cool your jets; Im not going to force you to use un upgraded hardware. Do whatever you want, my opinion is my opinion...

Actually, how does Galaxian have so much color?
-
Looking at the arcade version quickly, the score counter and the lives counter are at the top and bottom, unlike bosconian, which might make this process a lot easier.

I consider the VBXE to be cheating, as it's not original hardware.

I know that it might be pointless, but can you send me the Atari file? It looks impressive...

If anyone is interested, I have a wav file without the bug, and the tracker file.
