  1. After thinking about the 5 games for a bit, I figured I'd mix in a few that I have never played, but have wanted to: - Caverns of Mars - Demon Attack - Gorf - Montezuma's Revenge - Super Cobra
  2. the 5200 and other Atari 8bits could really bring it when developers understood the hardware well enough; considering it was a 70s. home computer, that platform was insanely good all through the 80s if the 7800 had a decent sound chip in it, I would probably plug mine in more often. graphics are definitely better than anything of its time (eat it, NES), those VCS boop-fart soundtracks tho...
  3. Thanks @DamonicFuryfor running a tight Season 16! Your efforts for the 5200 posse are much appreciated 🙂
  4. 11,327 I was disappointed with my score, but then I saw "THE EARTH HAS BEEN DESTROYED!" and I figured eh first world problems. I like this game, but every time it rolls around I just wait until the last minute! I'm sure there' some bonus or score management that I need to learn, but I always say 'next time.' Welp, next time I will do it right for sure!
  5. for me, those two top a list of underappreciated gems on the 360; like Spec Ops: The Line, Binary Domain, Prey, Crackdown, Darksiders, tons of fantastic games to go back and discover
  6. Mass Effect 2 Dead Space Assassin's Creed II Bioshock Gears of War 3 Red Dead Redemption Halo 3 Fable II Vanquish Enslaved pretty hard for me to narrow this down, so many great experiences on the 360
  7. 6,020 I was well-prepared for torture as I remember this game being nigh impossible with the stock controllers, but turns out it isn't anywhere near as bad as I remember! It's a lot tougher than the 2600 version, though, maybe I just convinced myself the controller was the problem
  8. argh, fell asleep before I could try again but I'll keep playing it on the side; apparently you boost scoring by gathering flags before crossing the bridge to beat satan, going to experiment
  9. 11,500 first time I've played this in absolute ages, but it's a fun game! going to read the instructions and give it another shot so I know what I am doing
  10. interestingly, though the 5200 completely lacks the circuitry for it, the PAL Atari 800XL that I have just outputs s-video like it's no big thing. I was looking forward to modding it, but I've been using it for years now and have never even opened the case 🙂
  11. can't do it in the UK unfortunately, all the TV frequencies are different! no channel 3 at all. I had to solder up an S-Video graphics circuit to get mine to work, but it's still hooked up to a tube so it looks like I remember it 🙂
  12. 603 Also stock The Atari 5200 Trak-ball Controller does a pretty awesome job here!
  13. 13,400 pretty sure I can do better than that, but this was done on a 3DS. I was travelling over the weekend, so had to resort to miniaturised 5200 gameplay:
  14. it does -- it's one of the better uses of the analog controls, with variable speed in horizontal and vertical directions. I found it plays pretty well in emulation with xbox or playstation pads that have analog sticks
  15. 20,873 my favourite game on the 5200! wearing down those dreadnaughts never gets old
  16. 1,642 absolutely brutal! playing game #1 after this feels like slow motion 🙂
  17. You absolute legend. Moonbase Alpha thanks you for your service
  18. 41,950 managed to make it past Z and back around to A, which isn't always a given then I lost all coordination trying to get around those tanks! bane of my moon patrolling, those things
  19. 204,331 I've pulled off a perfect first cavern on this game, but I just kept on pulling bonehead moves! I can't remember if we ever made it out of the second cavern as kids, but it's absolutely brutal
  20. 9,333 switched to playing this on the MiSTer with a Sega game pad as it was ragging out my CX52. Turns out the game pad is a much more fun way to play this
  21. 7,862 stuff starts getting he-hectic really quick if you take the ol' warp gate. testing the new forum, hopefully this upload works.
  22. 70,551 My controller buttons are starting to stick which makes this game particularly rough, time for a rebuild!
  23. 25,350 will take a few stabs at this one, but it's pretty clear to me that I suck just as bad at Pac-Man today as 40 years ago. 1
  24. I put in a three-inning game, it was all extra-innings after that! Have confirmed in a couple of playthroughs since. I am decent at defense and absymal at offence, so all my games are basically 0:0 until somebody cracks.
  25. 13,438 The grid is a harsh mistress, and I shoot my bonus ships as often as I receive them. I never played this game back in the day, but if I could go back in time to 1983 I would make sure to bring a copy, saying to my younger self "hey little buddy, why not give Joust a break and ride the Beam for a bit?" Good game!
