Out of the years of the SNES... they made different revisions... The PICTURE quality is said to be best on a 1-Chip model. I have 3 different models now from all times... I did a test and the picture IS better on a 1-Chip... I posted on twitter with pictures of 3 different models (a good color image of Mario), Check it out and see your thoughts..

Ah, still wanted to see the original game... I'll try to find that rom too... Super Mario 2 Japan...
-
After some hunting... I found Doki Doki Panic (Japan), the ORIGINAL FDS rom ! I'm going to drop it on my everdrive N8 (as the original game was for the FC, not the SNES) and see how hard it actually is. This was the original game... the one they claimed that was too hard for the US market.. I've never played it before, only saw some YouTube videos on it..
-
Yea, agreed. The Japan version of Super Mario 2 was actually Doki Doki Panic (a game that was made for a very large company in japan) modified, and they changed to all the Mario and all his friends. It was claimed that it was insanely hard... At the time Nintendo was new in the US market, they had one or 2 people they would send games over to in the US to test for the US market (would of been a great job in the day) and they said it was too hard and people would not enjoy it and it would make Nintendo look bad (this is not too long after the video game crash of the 80's so they were not going to take ANY chance). This is why the easier and prettier version came over to the US but, a lot of the features of that game came over to Super Mario 2... I'm going to have to find the original ROM to play it on my NES that is modified with a NESRGB kit... but, in a way, not looking forward to it...

Never mind, grabbed one...

Sent PM... Thanks !

Just wondering if anyone had one for a reasonable price. Seeing ebay prices going from $70-160, I think it's pretty crazy for a SNES... I'd prefer a nice one but, would not step away if it was a epic deal on a beat up one for a transplant. I am searching on places like facebook and other places trying to source one. I have a Framemister and wanted to see how much better the picture is with a 1-Chip. I have 2 SNES units ow... one is early UN10 and another, minty looking that is a UN24... Just looking for that UN309 or UN31 Thanks !

Over the weekend I finally installed the NESRGB into my ORIGINAL NES from 1985. It all worked perfect after a 72 pin upgrade. Well, I installed it with with a Nintendo Multi-out, wired it to do composite, S-Video and RGB. connected it to my Framemeister via a SCART cable to my 65" 4K TV.... BLOWN away... PIXEL perfect on my TV, I walked to and looked from 2" from the TV and still blown away. Waiting for the last parts to come in to finish up, doing the stereo mod in it before putting it all in the case.

I was always wondering this too. We have Sega, Odyssey 2 even Bally sub-forums but, no Nintendo NES, SNES, N64, besides High scores... I figured with all the mods on the NES, it would be popular one, never mind SNES or N64... and not even talking about all the games for those systems.

Be 100% sure you want to do this... as getting this stuff back 10 years from now, will be very, very hard, if not very expensive. I'd clear out of all your spares, pick the best one, and keep a collection... so you do't regret it 10 years from now...

Thanks ! You also have some interesting other projects on your site. Might need to play with some other things (always wanted to see a NES gun work on a modern LCD tv) Ok, I'll bite. Any other interest in this ? I am NOT interested in any profit, I would just like to own one. So we figure out how many, cost to make, we figure out shipping costs, then we divide it between all users and your cut is required to be part of it. If I get a handful of requests (PM me) I'll spend some time to try to get an idea of the costs and take it from there. I have never done this before but, would like see the process

I have this type of card for my Vectrex (32 in 1) that does the job pretty well. Might be interested in trying to create one. I am in the US...
-
Very cool... what kind of cost is one looking at to make one ?
-
I paid $46 for my Retron 5 on ebay... a untested but, complete in box... worked 100%...and still does after well over 200 hours playing it...

Interesting... I am sure he/they is looking closely at this project.. Maybe he/they will attempt it... Krikkz has the rep of being the king of these types of devices, so if they came up with one, and at a lower price point than this one... It would sell like crazy. We need a 2nd group to make a device like this to drive the price down a little.... It's just too much for me where it is. No question, cool device.

Suggestions for sound with retro setup?
TheCoolDave replied to Razzie.P's topic in Classic Console Discussion
If your looking to find something good while saving some money. Look over Facebook marketplace, or even one of the other apps like Let it go, etc. A lot of people upgrade and there are a LOT of great deals on last gen stuff, exactly what your looking for. I have seen Bose 5.1 setups for under $300 on Facebook, if that is your thing. Personally I use a 4K and 7.1 AVR but, run everything through a Framemeister. I have been thinking about getting a 20" PVM for side games of some retro consoles(as I have a lead where I might be able to get one for free). I did get a new TV that is claimed to have the lowest lag of any 2017-2019 TV. My Retro and New console games have gotten noticeably better from getting this TV. Anyway, keep an eye on those sites, I have seen some good audio systems go for cheap, just plan accordingly, as you don't always want the A/V system on top of a CRT or in touching distance. CRTs put out noise and as you have seen it will. An EXACT model, this will be a preference thing. Something that fits my needs will not fit yours, so you know the minimum inputs you want, just hunt it down -
the official Channel F thread!

Yep, expensive in my eyes as well. As they say, something is only worth what someone is willing to pay. No harm in them trying I guess... Odds are it will be sitting for a while.... -
I'll be honest with you, if you can deal with the lag issues (some systems are not noticeable but, others can be, all deepening on the type of game), The feature set is pretty awesome. It's a great item. I, like others here, have a few Everdrives. So I know it from the original side as well as the Retron 5... Retro games look pretty great on it, the feature set it awesome. The console itself is a little cheap, shall I say, feeling. It's very light and all plastic. Then keep this in mind, if it was all metal, and very solid, it would not be around $100-150, it would be around $500. I think it's a great device, if you buy one, update the firmware before you do anything. The original ones had some bugs that was fixed in updates. I think it's a worthy device for what it does. And when the carts are hard to pull out, do a slight rocking with a light pull, then come out... Played 100's of games on it, of all types... They all still work..no problem with the slots...

Well, the adapter that is made for the Retron 5 for Master system/game gear and master system cards will work on any other system. It will even work on original hardware. So you could buy a Retro Freak and buy that adapter and it will play those games... You can buy the adapter on Amazon...it's a little pricey at $60 but, you can get it... https://www.amazon.com/Hyperkin-RetroN-Adapter-Master-System-sega/dp/B01NCX3KIO Maybe with a little hunting you can find one used for cheaper.. Didn't I read something that the ORIGINAL Genesis adapter for master system games does fit on the retron 5...???

I have one... I got lucky on ebay, picked up a untested one for $46, and I got it, it came complete with everything and works 100%. I tested each system and they did all work, they were kind of tight to go in but, it worked. It would not work with my everdrives though and that is due to how it works. It uses emulation to play games and it shows a level of lag. I tried Mike Tyson's punch out and I could only get so far. With my original NES playing the same game though my framemeister, I was about get much deeper into the game...(picked up the RGB mod for the NES, just need to install it) There is something to be said thought... Real time save, for any game any system, use any controller with any system, and other cool "emulation type" of features that you really cant get on original systems... If you really want to get one, just do your homework before you jump on it...

Well, if you don't want to get a good job, then you better marry someone who has money. I thought the same way when I was younger, I got jobs based on things I love. If I got really rich where I didn't have to work, I think I would get a job working at gamestop so I can talk about games all day. After I travel the world and do the best roller coasters in the world.... dream over... In the real world, I'm not rich, and I do have 5 arcade games(including a Star Wars cockpit) and I have had most of them for over 15 years and I have moved 5 times with them. Moving sucks, no question, they are heavy and can get damaged easy. I don't use them as much as I would like but, when I do, there is always something wrong with one or another. Some is minor things, other things are big deals. They do take up a lot of room, so plan accordingly. As others have said, FIND what your going to do in life, get a fairly good job, buy a home, THEN think about Arcade games. Create your man cave with games. Give yourself time, deals will be out there if you hunt hard enough. Try to learn what you can. YOUTUBE IS YOUR FRIEND. A lot of minor repairs, and even recapping a Monitor can be found on YouTube. Then there are arcade forums (look up KLOV), spend time reading, a LOT of reading. Trust me, don't make the same mistake I did, PLAN accordingly, you will enjoy them more...
