  1. What suprises me is that they say "Fully upgradeable RAM", so is there going to be a port cover on the bottom where you can just swap out RAM modules or do they actually expect you to take off the entire cover like a full blown PC and change the RAM?
It also says "Compatible with most PC peripherals" If this thing is so modular, then what is stopping anyone from loading software on a PC and not even buying the hardware? would they even care if non authenticated or cloned serial numbers try to access the Atari store?
If so then what will stop clones, just like fake Samsung Galaxy phones?
We have already seen plenty of NES and SNES classic clones.

  2. ^^ if this thread increments +1 per day we will hit 1000 on new years day!
I guess this is the best goal Atari has for the new year xD

And has anyone actually pre-ordered the system from Walcrap or StopGames?
can you cancel without penalty? I have a prepaid credit card with 3 cents on it and just want to troll, i am willing to lose that amount just to be on the list :D

  3. Backer, fan and creator support means everything to us, and as always, we thank you!

    Wow, just wow.
A dumpster fire is not adequate enough description, more like a fire that you throw the dumster Into, just burn everything including the dumpster.

ever heard the expression 'you can't argue with a pig?'

I usually do not argue with Hot crispy bacon or a big slice of ham in maple syrup on my plate :P

Come one ATARI! Just make a 30 second Youtube video of one of you actually plugging in the system and turning it on, that is it! power it up and show the logo with a little jinngle like "SEEEEGGGAAAAAA!" or something, you are obviously building units, you cannot be making these things and not turning on at least one of them to see if it will actually work. This is not a Poker game, you cannot fake your value, no company is going to buy you out or invest hundreds of millions in Atari until they see you HAVE any value, more importantly Patents that they can strip like Nokia or something. TURN IT ON!

  4. One thing gets me, they say that they had to reduce cost to $199 to sell it in stores like Walmart and StopGame becuase they will not allow it to cost more, That seems skeezy a reason as ever, I think it is because Walmart wanted a big cut, and instead of Atari selling it at cost, THEY also want to make $$$ from hardware knowing they have very little chance of making any back through software. So instead following what Apple does and cut costs on STORAGE, they cut cost on the second most important thing in a PC Computer (becuase that is what it is) they cut RAM!!!!!
Even other videogame systems cut the optical drive first and made it download only.

For crying out loud that is fragmentation if ever and a good way to discourage a DEV to port a game. I would have just cut cost in the case and assembly, make that low cost SOB like the Atari 5200, a big box and just shove everything in with room to spare, slap a big glowing Atari logo on the front, and BAM!
    a dream collector item.

  5. Serious question, does the Atari logo appeal to Hipsters?
I am not trying to pander or insult, serious question, or is all the trash that Atari puts out like T-shirts and Hats that have $2 Bluetooth chips in them appeal to old individuals like me suffering from Trigeminal Nostalgia?

    If so I have ideas

    -Atari branded Incadenscent flashlights
    -Atari branded cookies
    -Atari branded pens
-Atari branded watches that play LCD crappy versions of popular Atari games! (Ok this is a good one)
-Atari branded Branders to brand cattle with Atari logo
-Atari branded Atari videogame sys... oh wait
-Atari branded bumper stickers that say "Honk if you still play Atari!"
-Atari branded Waffle/Pancake maker, so you can eat Atari for breakfast
-Atari branded headphones so you can rock Atari beeps and Boops
    -Atari branded USB drives
    -Atari branded socks
    -Atari branded cufflinks
-Atari branded posters in the style of "The Rise of Skywalker" might as well mooch off the end of SW! they mooched from Atari, Lightsabers look like PONG!
-Atari branded Brandy, (every idiot celebrity has a drink now)
-Atari branded Cologn/Perfume (every idiot celebrity has a scent now)
-Atari branded S3X toys, "Have you played with your Atari today?"

  6. IntelliMission

I really hope this console is a success, but I'm afraid the most entertaining thing it will produce will be epic failure and possible bankruptcy of a company.

And that's a problem: I never had an Atari machine, but thanks to this project I have learned about the huge legacy of Atari. It's a shame they have ended up like this.

don't worry, This is NOT Atari, this is not Nolan Bushnell or Wozniak in a garage making pong boards, This is just some Fiend who got his grubby hands on the Atari name and is milking it for whatever cache the name has in mainstream markets.

You are better of getting legit hardware, or even better, some of the old flashbacks have all you need to make a fully functioning Atari!, the cool people who designed them included solder points on the "motherboard" so that anyone willing to solder can add a cartridge connector.

  7. I thought that one of the reasons they wanted to do the CPU upgrade was because of native 4K and DRM support, soooo what is the problem getting the Streaming apps working? much suck in the programming department? or is the problem that streaming services dont want to be associated with a dumster fire?
    Please clarify.
Anyone know if they decided to keep the "floating design" piece of plastic on the bottom or did the bean counters tell them it would cost $0.03
We all know why they did not make the original ribbed design, because IT NEEDS MORE MOLDS AND LEFTOEVER PLASTIC PER UNIT THAT COSTS $$$ (also added assembly costs) It had nothing to do with difficulty, this displays the complete clueless ineptitude at the helm of this pet project.
I am sooo Satisfied that both these running jokes. The Coocoo Chameleon and the AtacoBox are both about an Atari Mold. It all started with an Atari mold.

So no Atari VCS boxes under the Christmas Trees this year, gonna be lots of sad big kids. /|\ :(
*nbot to mention Atari is going to miss the biggest shopping time of the year, AND on top of that will be debuting the system right when the next gen consoles go to battle AND on top of that people are more likely to stay at home and enjoy onling gaming rather than venture out into the freezing weather during the winter, great strategy of trying to cath people just when spring rolls around duhhhf!

    Lulz, more like

    "For illusion purposes only"

So anyone know what is up with the Gameboard that Rob left for non-payment by the Atari masters?

I plan to make a game for it, called Atariopoly, your goal is to raise the most money for vaporware,
OOPS! you landed on the Kickstarter square, you go back to start because you need a prototype!
OOPS! you landed on Lawsuit square, all your money belong to us!

  9. Ya, I noticed the power supply, it puts my laptop one to shame... oh wait, this IS basically a Laptop.
Be glad you get a power supply, these mini retro consoles are all about "Go get your cell phone charger and use that"

Wait what? my phone is kinda charging on it you cheap %^*#&$!

Also I forgot, the hand me down Sony TV I use for my desltop has one of those massive bricks, but winter is cold so I can use it as a foot warmer, and whatever heat it adds to the room is a plus.

  10. Uh, oh, Pat & Ian just released a video about Taco Tallarico's choice for the side mounted controllers he likes,
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSWnH4jT2xw
but at least the Dev's working on the controller made an app that turns the phone into a controller with more buttons, now this is what Atari should be updating people on, not the finished case and factory workers putting this Tacobox together, when people buy a Bently or Rolls for obscene abounts of money, they do not care to see assembly, so why so many pics of factory? show the thing turned on!

What got me is that if I am using a high end cell phone that can wirelessly output HD video to my TV, why is the Atari VCS even needed? The phone can even be the controller, or buy a cheap joystick physical add on with that capacitive button. This would be a great way to make money selling games without having to sell hardware Atari!
increase your user base at no cost, even Apple knows the money is in service. Make an Atari Eco system like Google Stadia, except you run and stream games to your TV!

  11. Any updates on the gamezzz?

I think Atari should at least make mock-ups or image renders of what it would look like to play games on the unfinished glossy console.
This thing ships or the Atari ship sinks, and I get free entertainment either way!
    o.o-3(|) ready Taco smorgasbord!
This is going to be like watching a no-holds bar brawl between Android and Apple fanbois, if you think the Cocleco Chameleon thread was a fiasco, you aint seen nothing yet!
Early youtube reviewers better bace themselves for nasy comments should they say 1 bad thing about it, or not giving it a 10/10 score

Atari, i think you should send AVGN & the NES Punk a review unit, this way you will get unbiased, informative and respectful "reviews" :)

  12. Me thinks Atari is in for a shock, Microsoft failed to get people to make apps for Windows phone, no matter how much money they threw at them and made porting easy, Atari want people to DEVELOP games for a platform that does not have ANY userbase WHATSOEVER!!!!
Do not forget that people are not going to wait an hour for games to download, the back end better be lickety split.

When you have only 10,000 units out in the wild, there cannot be any exclusives! a tripple AAA title would proabably need every owner of the console to buy a copy or the game... TWICE!! to cover the cost, much less turn a profit.

  13. I am not going to make any false statements here but if indeed Atari spent all that cash "to develop" and by that I mean outsource the system, and also spent money on other things like lawsuits, adds and what not, then there is no way they can pay for the productin of all the units, unless Atari is going to invest personal Capital in this venture as a seperate entity. But I suspect not as he would have funded this little pet project himself from the getgo.

So if there are insufficient enough funds to cover production, hire a team to handle packing and shipping, as well as shipping costs, not to mention warranty exchanges, then I conject that this could possibly and without intent, or malice turn into a runaway Ponzi-esque type operation, where the initial backers are the initial investors, and to get money to pay them off (ie ship to them what was actualy promised) Atari will need to get MORE preorders to pay for this. Once good reviews start to come out, and if this is released in stores they can actually use profits to pay for those old orders and thus eliminate the need to get more people to pay the previous ones.
Now this is a BIG IF! this will only work if this is a runaway success! I calculate a %12 chance of success |-_-|

So if you want one of these things I suggest not buying it through indiegogo, unless your credit card protects you, buy it where you can do a chargeback or better, in store where you take it home, I suggest opening up the box at the store to make sure a brick is not inside.
You do not want to be the one that is paying for someone elses TacoBox.

ooh! did someone say cheese rind? Mmmmmmmmm.. Cheese rinds.. uuugh (_8^(1)

As for holding back on specs, only Apple can get away with that, because Apple is focused on the "user experience" and not brute force power.. or whatever they say to get the Android people of thier backs for not having dual octa cores... 128GB ram... whatever...

But Atari had no choice, it was to sell the system and give an excuse for the massive delays. Atari could not keep saying.. uuum, you put internet in here and then the games, she comes out here, backers would be livid! they would be getting out the pitch forks and torches! xD

  15. I Think Atari really took advantage of the crowdfunding scene, I feel a reform coming where after you reach a certain goal in terms of funding, you are no longer crowdfunding but investing, meaning every one of your backers that pledge, are now shareholders of said invention, and as such, they are entitled to future returns, and as well they are allowed to see 24-7 all funds and how they are spent. Now if there are any delays, all backers are allowed to vote if they want to continue with the project, or cut it short and return leftover funds (liquidate all assets) less any wage and contractual feel owed.
Also any patents filed during the project remain under the ownership of all backers
    Meaning NO MORE FREE MONEY!

As for Kickstarter that requires a prototype, if the prototype has been pantented and more or less already finished, then this will be treated as a crowdfunding project, as device more or less exists, unlike indiegogo, clowns show up with a dream and no clue.

  16. ^ That portion about the EVT is safe speak for "We are %99.9 done, but if we find something, we reserve the right to go back to the drawing board, see y'all in 2022, thanks for your ongowing support.

They had to address that nasty shiny plastic, I have a feeling they were going to release it that way but the comments and backlash made them rethink it, mainly because the CASE, the freaking case of the device is probably the only thing that will retain the value for collectors and Taco Afficiados (3rd grade taco joke)

Anyhoo here is a video showing how they can make it look "premium" with dollar store washup sponges. Here you go Atari, free of charge.

Perhaps the atari crew are terrified that some enterprising individual in China will knock out a clone of this system for $50 shipped in less than 1 week like they did with the NES mini, thus if they show the splash startup screen it will be copied, if you dont show anything they cannot copy.

  18. I dont belive this, I just watched the trailer for Ghostbusters Afterlife, My childhood dreams of being a ghostbuster, that means filming has wrapped up yet Atari in that same time cannot even get a freaking Demo trailer working for a POS retrobox.

(and no I do not count that 2016 Ghostbusters as canon, as far as I cam concerened it should be SHOT out of a cannon, into the sun)

  19. ^^^ oh my bad, and dont forget the VecTrex, but that system was Vector Based so fixing capacitors is inevitable.
Atari was more the controllers, but then again most controllers from that time were garbage, especially the flight sticks for computers and Apples, cheap contact based garbage

  20. I never mentioned, Sega, NES SNES in the post, at all. CD-i and #Do was more the Laser assembly, still it is a failure that caused the unit to not function at all.

And then if you had Arcade boards and especially the CPS system 2's you hd to deal with the Suicide battery, that is why I just gave up and sold off my CPS system and game, I did not want to deal with the battery swaps and authenticating keys, my board was authentic, but if you hack the keys back value goes down.

  21. ^^^ Meh, lots of systems never worked, Look at Atari, look at Philips CD-i, Xbox, 3DO and the most infamous Amstrad GX4000 that blew up its own power supply if it threw a hissy fit. Expect cost cutting to be at an all time high. Cheapass capacitors will be one thing they cut corners with. Believe you me if you want to keep this system as a collector item, Expect to recap this thing in the future.
