Intellivision HSC Season 19 - Game 10 - Bomb Squad
dpisacane replied to Rickster8's topic in Intellivision High Score Club
Had another chance to play. Level: 1 Digits: 3 Secret Code: 660 Score: 6,680 I tried to play on level two, but I got too frustrated when I wasn't able to put out the fires. Contrary to some other opinions, I really enjoyed playing this game. -

I've been incredibly busy, so just in case I do not have a chance to play, here is a quick score from when I tested the game about two weeks ago. (Fingers crossed that I get a chance to at some time this weekend.) Score: 3,500 -

Intellivision HSC Season 19 - Game 9 - Auto Racing

So, how, exactly do I implement the drifting? Do I tap the brakes while holding the disc? Do I need to oversteer? Any tips would be helpful. I've kind of moved on to Bomb Squad (a lot more my speed), but I might give Auto Racing a few more tries. -
Intellivision HSC Season 19 - Game 9 - Auto Racing
dpisacane replied to Rickster8's topic in Intellivision High Score Club
It's not the directional steering one, it's whatever the other version is called. Incidentally, I tried playing on my actual hardware, but the copy I pulled out was the directional steering one, and that is so much harder, as you say. I did manage to find a copy with the updated steering among my extra carts, fortunately. -

I've never played this before and, man is it hard! I went with the same as Rickster since j figured he knows better than me. (All games played on the Flashback.) Track 2 - Tan Car: 10:24 Track 3 - Red Car: 9:54 Track 4 - Green Car: 10:53 Total Time: 31 minutes 11 seconds I think I crashed on nearly every turn (and even of the few straightaways) on Track 2. Track 3 was only marginally better, and I had a bit of inspiration or something for Track 4. This game is so hard and each round takes so long, that these might be the only scores I post. It was interesting to check the game out, though. Quite impressive for 1979. -
Typically I only have time to play on weekends, and I was going to be away this weekend. So, the plan was to play on the DS version of Intellivision Lives. How surprised was I when I learned that on that version you can only play Sharp Shot with two consoles connected for multiplayer?! So... At the last minute, I grabbed my PS2 and GameCube copies, figuring I would be able to find some time to play in those. Then, as I suggested earlier, I didn't end up going, so I figured I would check the game out on Intellivision Lives at home. I never really spent much time with those collections, but I am pretty impressed. Although, the GameCube version seems to play a little differently, maybe a bit faster? I typically like to participate on original hardware, as the nostalgia is such a big part of the fun for me, but seeing Rickster's recently posted YouTube videos using Intellivision Lives, I feel totally fine posting these scores not on my actual Intellivision. 🤪 (And yes, I'm aware that emulation is totally allowed for the High Score Club.) So, here they are: Space Gunner: 76 Sub Shoot: 33 Maze Shoot: 37 Football Toss: 91 Total Combined Score: 237 (All on PS2 Intellivision Lives except Sub Shoot, which was on the GameCube version of Intellivision Lives.) I can see how Rickster gets those scores in Football Toss and Space Gunner, but I can't for the life of me fathom how he pulls off the scores on the other two. It's just amazing.

Intellivision HSC Season 19 - Game 7 - Lock 'N' Chase
dpisacane replied to Rickster8's topic in Intellivision High Score Club
I think I definitely suffer from not having an Intellivision growing up when it comes to this game. It took me a hell of a lot of work to get this score, so I'm actually pretty proud of it, even though it doesn't match up to most of the other ones posted on here. 25,640 -
Intellivision HSC Season 19 - Game 6 - White Water

My Game 3 time was from the one and only time I was able to get to the finish line. I had exactly the same experience as you. The only advice I can give, which isn't good advice, is that I went as slowly as possible to avoid knocking guys out of my boat. -

Man, this game is pretty tricky, I think. There's a lot coming at you really quickly. This is what I have managed so far. Total time: 183.2 (3:03.2) Now, Fortune Seeker's Favorite has been particularly interesting. I never really played this game, and when I did check it out, I didn't understand how this mode worked. Now, after actually sitting down and reading the manual, I think it is pretty terrific. This is why I am truly loving the High Score Club. I really like discovering games and game modes that I never knew about, or never knew were so compelling. Fortune Seeker's Favorite: 4,920 -

Had a chance to take one last crack at it, and I managed to improve a bit: 89,727 That's probably it for me. I am amazed by the people who are able to finish the whole game.... -
Intellivision HSC Season 19 - Game 5 - Pitfall

I've never really played the Intellivision version of this game, aside from checking to see if the cartridge worked after I bought it. I have to admit, this is a great version of Pitfall! 79,871 -
You know, honestly, I don't mind the disc at all as a controller for a game like this. The issue that I keep having, like everyone else, is the input lag, non-responses and the general slow gameplay. That's where the 2600 versions really shine. They are snappy, and every move registers immediately. Playing it on Jzintv was what really revealed the differences in gameplay to me. I might give it a few more tries, but I don't have a ton of time to play, and it doesn't feel like a game I want to work to get really good at. Oh, and lastly, I am really looking forward to spending some time with White Water. That's a game I have never really spent any time on, but I love Imagic!

So, I have tried everything to get better at this game. Two different consoles. Three controllers. I tried it in emulation (both jzintv and Nostalgia). I can't even begin to understand how you guys are putting up these insane scores. The best I've managed is: 13,480 For Frog Bog, I'm just not good at it. This is what I was able to do: 340 (Dir and tongue) On an interesting aside, after really fighting with Frogger, I decided to go back and play the Atari 2600 versions, as I hadn't played them in quite a while. (If I'm playing Frogger, it's on my MAME cabinet.) However, I remembered them being better than what I was experiencing on Intellivision. I'm sure that invoking these kinds of comparisons on this forum is perhaps in slightly bad taste, but I have to tell you, it was quite an experience. If you have the console and game at home (or just want to fire up Stella and have a look), it's a really interesting experience. First, I pulled out my Supercharger and played The Official Frogger. Oh my god... If you've never played that version of the game, it is really astonishing what they managed to pull off on a console from 1977. The graphics, the music while you're playing, it's all pretty amazing. Most importantly, it controls and plays like a dream. Then, in the interest of fairness, I pulled out the cartridge version, and I have to admit. It is a lot of fun. It's a lot closer to the Intellivision version. Worse graphics, for sure, but the one thing it really has is gameplay. That cartridge version is bare bones, but it is fun and responsive. I was actually reasonably impressed. Anyway, thanks for the fun here on the High Score Club. I'm looking forward to whatever is coming up. It certainly gets me playing Intellivision games that I probably otherwise would never touch, which is a heck of a lot of fun. 😃

Intellivision HSC Season 19 - Game 2 - Super Cobra

I've been thinking of ways I might modify the pad to make it a little better. (Maybe a thin ring of foam to stop the edges of the D-pad from getting stuck under the molding.). I love the idea of the controller, but the execution has some issues. As noted before, I pulled it out, because it felt appropriate for this game. -

It's one of those long play controllers that some guy in France made and sold on here a little while back. I also have Flashback controllers with the adapter, though. If you look at my previous, lower, score you can see the controller. -

This is one of those games that was so expensive, that I bought it and I never really got it out to play. I'm glad I had a reason to give it a real try. It's a lot more fun than I thought it would be. Game 1: 20,930 -

This is what I managed. I didn't realize just how hard this game is... Slope 13, 14 and 15 (152.8 total): (I might try slalom later, but it is even harder...) -
Intellivisionaries and Intellivision for 2023?
dpisacane replied to nurmix's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
Thanks so much for doing it as long as you did. Intellivisionaries is what got me back into retro gaming (and collecting), but it's also what got me into podcasts! Do what makes you happy. That's what matters. 😄 ...and thanks again for all of the amazing information, laughs and memories. You should be really proud of what you created!- 22 replies

A new controller SECOND BATCH AVAILABLE
dpisacane replied to tanuki's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
I sent a private message requesting two INTV1 adapters to go with my two controllers. Just making sure you know. Thanks! Can't wait to try out these new controllers! I was playing King of the Mountain yesterday, thinking about how great it would be with one of them. Thanks again for making this new product!
