Is it possible to replace the TIA chip on the 7800? Fixing compatibility?
R_Leo_1 replied to R_Leo_1's topic in Atari 7800
Since Dark Chambers released for both systems at around the same time, it may have just been the most relevant incompatibility for them to fix at the time, however, I agree that it seems unnecessary, given it's just one game. -

R_Leo_1 replied to R_Leo_1's topic in Atari 7800
Oh okay, thanks for the info! I wasn't aware that it worked on most units, I'll have to snag a copy to test out on my 7800. -
I haven't had any issues with the 2600 incompatibilities on the 7800 so far, but I've recently been wanting to play Kool-Aid Man and was wondering if you could replace the TIA in the 7800 with an earlier one, to possibly fix some of the compatibility issues. Thanks

Other sound chips besides POKEY ... cheaper alternatives?
R_Leo_1 replied to Synthpopalooza's topic in Atari 7800 Programming
Good to hear! I'm really behind this idea since I've been designing a homebrew for the 7800 for a while and was convinced that the AY-3-8910 was gonna be the sound chip of choice, since I do not wanna get stuck with just the TIA for sound, and I'm not a massive fan of salvaging pokey chips from donor carts. -

Considering the AY chips are so well documented, I can't imagine it being to challenging to implement it into an emulator, but that's coming from a newbie. -

I think this is an amazing alternative to Pokey, definitely second this! -
I wasn't really sure what to say up until this point, but for the few times I had talked with him on the forum, he seemed like such a well-meaning guy, and I had read countless older threads with him always having something interesting to say about the 7800 and how much it meant to him. I will miss seeing his comments and I send my thoughts and prayers to his family and friends. Rest in peace, DracIsBack.

It appears someone has already done so in the main forum.

I found his Obituary, it saddens me deeply to say that he has passed away...

Plays great! I love the progress on this so far

I was cleaning my model 2 today and accidentally took rubbing alcohol to the top logo... but other than that, she looks pretty solid. Looking to sell this one, most likely for cheap lol.

7800 Labels, part numbers, etc. (idea from the 2600 'Galaga' thread)
R_Leo_1 replied to PacManPlus's topic in Atari 7800
I also think it's a great idea to get some kind of standard going. -
Thanks for the info Last night I managed to get 320C working in 7800basic so I believe I've got a handle on it now, thanks again!
-
Awesome! Thanks for the info on this, that'll be extremely helpful for me. Just to clarify though, if Kangaroo mode is turned on, then in 320C I can use 4 solid colors, just no transparency available, right? Thanks as well, I'm glad I have inspired you to revisit it! I'll take a look at the updated map

Thank you, I have used this table you created before. But the bug I'm referring to can be seen here in Rikki & Vikki Notice on the water and the rocks that there are vertical bars for one specific color within the palette. This is the bug where if you tried to have the water be solid and not made of vertical bars, the color would just be transparent.
-
I've been wondering recently if the bug that is present in the 320B graphics mode (One color of the palette only appearing if it is next to a different color within the same palette) is also present in 320C. I have not been able to utilize 320C graphics in 7800 Basic, so I am unable to test this myself. If anyone has any insight on this that would be awesome, thanks.

Had been meaning to do this for a while, here she is

Just bought my first Super Famicom, what a neat system!
-
This is great, love the NES style graphics on this one. Would love to see an RPG on 7800

None of my friends like playing my 7800 because the Pro-Line hurts they're hands, go figure lol
-
I'm amazed anyone can play with them for any length of time. I've tried, and besides the narrow orientation of them, do not like to press the buttons the way you're forced to. Gets tiresome after a while. They've rightfully earned the nickname Painline IMO. lol
Wonder if people who like the CX24's also like those clicky Epyx 500XJ's...

Intellivision II, why incompatible?
R_Leo_1 replied to CrazyBoss's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
Is there any way to restore compatibility for the system?
