1088XLD - Custom A8 Computer in 1050 Drive Case
Bee replied to mytek's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I have milled PVC and used through similar thickness. If I get time I'll open a Keyboard and test it with the actual case. I have the ability to mill and 3D print, I like these because you can pocket out where they mount and the glue them in the position you want. On the top side you can paint, use a decal or add a dome. They also support adding a wire. So if you really wanted you can add a wire running vertically in a 3d print or just print in conductive filament. If a wire is used you will have finish work to do sanding buffing and coating the surface. I saw this in high end Light Saber products 30 years ago. The sensors are a fun novelty, but they are non moving, so it also makes it possible to make a sealed product. I've used that in interactive art installations. Here is a concept for a XEGS Fablit specifically using 10 inch HDMI 3:4 ratio screen - The only part not finished is the case it's self. The 3D dome milling is not applied, it renders chunky but mills smooth in real life. The one part I was unable to get is Dropcheck's Cartridge Extension to relocate the port. The hold up is getting the PVC sheet I need. I'll do some experiments on the real case XEGS keyboard case. -
I use this - https://thebrewingacademy.com/collections/atari-800-xl-xe-xel-xld/products/atari-xl-xe-replacement-power-via-usb Pretty staight forward.

Moving back to the console keys on another project with the XEGS, I'm running capacitive touch in subsurface for hidden console buttons. https://www.adafruit.com/product/1374 It looks like there would be room to use them without a need to cut the case. Thank you -
For myself this might be the toughest day to not go out. I will stay in and raise my glass to my brothers and sisters passing the time with some Atari software helping fill the time in quarantine. Please be safe and kind. Thank you

OK I make a joke, look away, come back to a @hit storm? To point out I was trying to be playful and pull some music people in, Peter Gun and Mission Impossible both by Mancini, loosely modeled on the Man from Uncle theme. I was aiming at @DrVenkman & @flashjazzcat you see I haven't seen a recent video from Jon with a musical instrument, I hoped my quip would maybe nuge a few cords out. Switching Gears - ( the body of christ compels me ) Apparently Someone took it on to say "The entire point of user groups and forums like these are to ask questions and receive immediate answers. Ask away and ignore the "RTFM" people." If it's a joke I missed the humor. I quote Miracle Max from The Princess Bride " You rush a miracle, you get a rotten miracle " It is disingenuous to ask for help if you are not willing to make an effort to educate yourself first, if you are unwilling to help yourself, why should anyone here? This is a forum, it's just that, a place of free exchange and honestly, free advice. My experience is the people here are willing to help you if you are genuine in your own pursuits. This is not a Bank, we don't owe you answers if you are unwill to make an effort on your own behalf. The visual I perceive of it is as follows. You have fallen off the back of a cruise ship, I'm offering to toss the lifesaver to you, your reaction is to flip me the bird. I appreciate the efforts and labor of everyone here. Be kind or find a forum where they embrace unkind behavior. These folks have years of work and untold amounts of money invested for the love of the community and the camaraderie, a grip of effort and cash, show a little respect. -

FWW - In the past, on things like this I took pictures with good focus in blocks, I need them to see well. The point I'm going for while a component in the wrong place or value is aggravating. The more elusive for me was a solder bridge I couldn't see otherwise. The smaller problem was harder to find. Just my 2 cents Thank you -
Following up, on the 1040STE, TOS 1.06, I get the wrong year. On a Mega STE with TOS 2.05 I get the right date. Both running from the same Ultra Satan. Thank you

I found some interesting info here: http://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?t=31017 I'm unclear if it changes anything. Thank you

So I may reboot the Case and power supply. I found a way to get a Mega 4 mainboard and bring this back up. More to follow Thank you

OK on a 1040STE, 4megs, TOS 1.06, Ultra Satan, Y2KFIX.PRG US_GET_CL.PRG Results is 4/17/00 in the desk accessory Control.Acc Booting under TOS 2.06 creating a folder is dated 4/17/00 Still tying to find a solution Thank you

What hardware & TOS will you be running it on?
-
Those are the files I'm using. I wrote Lotharek other questions and never got an answer. I will try the Y2k file I got it last night as well. Thank you

Are the switches in this picture for setting the internal ID #? Thank you

I have a Mega STE, 4 mb, 40 HD,TOS 2.05. It is in good working order with the internal HD. I have a 16gb Sandisk Msd in CF converter formatted in ICD HD formatting program. I installed the demo10 of the HDDriver, re configured the card slots on the Ultra Satan to 1 & 2. For the life of me I can't figure out how to get the Ultra Satan to boot with the Mega STE. In the default configuration it works on my 1040STE. I get I may be going at it the wrong way as this is the Demo. Q - Is the paid Driver license per User or Machine? @ParanoidLittleMan. My buddy with a TT and a Falcon suggested it unsolicited. Thank you for any input.

New folders are assigned the date 4-13-28. This is with old accessory control.acc and xcontrol.acc. Both show this date.
-
So I have a new Ultra Satan and have the Get Clock in my Auto folder. On boot it shows the year 2020 retrieved, but the control panel shows 2028. Anyone know why? This is a STE on TOS 1.06, from what I read, this should be fixed until 2030? Thank you
-
No worries, Thanks for looking. I have a set of Simms coming later this week, I will open up my STE and check the DMA chip, upgrade the Ram. Then I will follow up with @ParanoidLittleMan, your offer is very kind. There is a learning curve for sure beyond the Mega 2 ST. Thank you
-
It is a US system. I'm seeing the "flaws" of 1.06 now I connected a Hard Drive. Thank you
-
Problems mostly sorted, now need to upgrade the simms. Thanks for the replies. Where do I find the TOS 1.62 chips?
-
Is it worth going to TOS 2.06 on a 1040STE? Thank you

I will start out saying I had the 502 ST, then 1040 ST, the a Mega ST 4. Back in the day. After I sold my Mega ST4, I picked up a used Atari Mega ST2. It was a quick deal on Craigslist back in the 90's and 1 out of 4 times it would white screen and lock up. I pulled it out after reviving my 1040ST, and the Mega ST2 is a no go after it's last boot 17 years ago. I tried 3 different power supplies and the same result. So I decided to get a 1040STE and pump it up to 4 megs of RAM off eBay. It boots and runs as one would expect with 2 strange observations. No matter what I do if I change to medium resolution and save the desktop it boots back to low resolution. Also I realized I have no sound coming form my color monitor and no way to control the volume. "It's not you it's me" It dawned on me the problem is probably my lack of knowledge on the STE and updated software I don't have. Can anyone enlighten me on what I'm looking for? I'm assuming a newer control accessory? Thank you
