Programming the Lynx is pretty easy for an experienced developer using the free tools. And there are EPROM carts you can use, although frankly it's much easier to develop with the emulator and only use the EPROM for late stage testing. I'm hoping someone else can point you to the Lynx programming stuff online since all my Lynx links are on my old computer, which my wife is using now. If someone else doesn't chime in PM me and I can just e-mail you the stuff I have, which I think is most of it. Eric

Bring it on...not like it takes a lot of time to rescan the fax into Acrobat and stick it on a website. The vidoe game stuff does skew the website usage report, but since I'm in charge of the website, well, I just think it's funny. Eric

Let me add "Solar Quest" to the favorite games list. I also like Super Cobra and Poll Position. Heck, most of the games are pretty playable. Also, for most you don't really need the overlays, although for some it looks nicer and other (Pinball) it's absolutely required. Also, I strongly recommend laying out for a multicart if you have the dollars. And if you're rich uncle just died and left you an inheritance, the 3d goggles are really cool, even though there's only 3 games that use them. (Hint -- the 3D games play in color, sort of). I have a ton of vectrex games for trade/sale. Eric

Yeah, and whatever you do, don't route it through the old fashioned slidy-switch TV box. The 7800's signal is too weak for the lossy box. Eric

I use two things from Radio Shack...the required component is a Male (I think) "F" to coaxial converter ("F" is another name for RCA). I also have a 3 way coax switch box from Radio Shack that works really well with the weak signal coming from the 7800. Eric

Sure you could, you could build something like a DMA where you plug a starting address of any length into a register or series of registers, then read or write serially from a shifted data register. I believe that's how you read the ROM on a Lynx. Eric

I was wondering the same thing. I have a friend big into FPGA's...I wonder if it would be possible to use one FPGA or similar device to act as both the ROM for the game as well as the sound chip. I also wonder if it would be adequately economical. Eric

I remember back in the day when some study showed that removing copyright protections actually correlated to increased sales...I'm not sure how apropos this idea is to that concept, but I wonder of this would work: Try the trialware/shareware approach. Post for yourself an emulator friendly image with limited content that directs the player to your website after a few sample levels, features or whatever. I wonder if that would work. I figure people are basically lazy and would use the ROM image that you yourself release rather than bothering to capture their own. Or perhaps downloaders would find your sample image first. Just an idea. I have a vested interest since I'm working on a Lynx game in my meager free time. Eric PS: I don't suppose you'd consider sharing your anti-emulator code with me in private?

I dig strange joysticks as well. I can't say that I formally collect them or am any kind of expert but I pick 'em up where I can. If you're interested, next time the digital camera finds its way to the basement I could snap some pix of stuff like the Batman and Terminator joysticks. Eric

I think you picked a great route to get started. Some of the old arcade ports on the 7800 are the best, and you can play zillions of 2600 games as well. I got into classic games the exact same way. Enjoy, Eric
