Why is no one talking about this new Hyperkin Genesis HD clone?
envytomdead2 replied to MantaNZ's topic in Sega Genesis
I'm curious does anyone know what the composite output is like? Is it better than a Genesis 2. I have heard this is the best budget Genesis but the master system games only work properly through composite. -
In that promotional video they show the cartridge slot opens.

that's what made wonder

Hmmm does it have a cartridge slot?

Why is no one talking about this new Hyperkin Genesis HD clone?
envytomdead2 replied to MantaNZ's topic in Sega Genesis
The only thing that has kept me from buying one of these is the wonky master system support. I have heard master system games only work properly in composite. I'm not sure how that would look on an HD tv. If I do buy a clone console it would probably be a mini gen HD or retro-bit trio plus because of better master system support. At least that is what I have read. Mega SG is too much money when I still have a functioning CRT. To be honest I don't mind my Genesis running through my cooldigital av2hdmi 16:9/4:3 converter. -
Advice Needed: Return RetroTINK & Go Emulation?
envytomdead2 replied to WishItWas1984's topic in Atari 2600
This thread actually inspired me to get my CRT fixed and then by chance my mom decided she wanted a flat screen and gave me hers. These things are built to last! I still like to play my Genesis on my flat screen with my upscaler and play atari via my retron 77. I think if I were to get something it would be a retron 5 because I like using the retron 77 save states. -
Advice Needed: Return RetroTINK & Go Emulation?
envytomdead2 replied to WishItWas1984's topic in Atari 2600
This kind of the reason why I have been holding off on the tink until I get a new tv. I was worried that because it sends out a non standard signal some tvs might not like it. I do have a retron 77 that works well for my 2600 library but that doesn't help me with my 7800. I do have a decent A/V to hdmi converter that allows me to choose aspect ratio with minimal to no noticeable lag. I mainly use this for my Genesis but I have used it for my 7800 through an old vcr. My crt is dying and my vizio is kind of old. I can't see spending over $100 on something that might not work. -
That did it thanks!

I cannot get this to work for the life of me. My retron77 just does not see the paddles. I updated to the firmware to the community build that removes the Rom limitation. Does that build not work? I've turned auto sense on and off. Maybe I got a faulty adapter? What settings did you use ? How did you boot the game? Cartridge or Rom?

I like this game. It's great when you are looking for something quick and easy.

I have had some luck with the cool digital av2hdmi converter(black one not the white one) I use it mainly for my genesis and master system which has decent video out but I have also used it running my 7800 rf into a vcr into the cool digital converter. Is it perfect? No, but I found it be really, really playable with minimal lag. You can also switch the aspect ratio to 4:3. I had to run my flashback 2 through a vcr to make that work so I'm not sure if even with you av mod you might still need a vcr

In Defense of Double Dragon: The E.T. of 2600 Fighting Games
envytomdead2 replied to mikey.shake's topic in Atari 2600
I actually beat 2600 Double Dragon today without losing a life. I've grown to really like this game! It's a steep learning curve but then becomes very fun once you have it down. -

I actually kind of enjoy Double Dragon. I have been making it to the 3rd mission. Once you get the hang of the elbow attack it becomes fun and kind of intense. Trying to catch the enemy in repeated elbow smashes without making a mistake that gives the enemy window to attack gets my blood pumping a bit! -
New Coleco handheld with Sega games on it, other games

The AV out on mine stopped working. I get audio but no video. Has anyone else experienced this? -

I have had this for a bit now. It is definitely not as bad as people say. Its kind of fun once you get the hang of it. That being said I only rarely get past the Abobos in mission 2 and have never gotten to the third mission yet. If I only had a 2600 back in the day, I would have been very happy to have this. I -
If you have an old VCR with RF input, you can use the AV puts in the VCR
-
My CRT tv is on it's way out so I started looking at cheap solutions for my HDTV. My set up is as follows: Genesis 2 AV out into a VCR(Not sure why this helps clean things up) in to a coolDigital av2hdmi converter. This upscaler is a bit nicer because it allows you to choose your aspect ratio. It's not a miracle but I prefer my Genesis on that to my failing CRT tv. If you do check out the cool digital upscaler, make sure its the black metal one and not the white plastic one. The white one cannot control the aspect ratio. I also use this for my 7800 except RF into the VCR.

They might not be 7800 games but they are close enough for my tastes, just like the Retron 77. I get it doesn't do everything but really who in their right mind would expect that at that price point?
-
It doesn't what I mean I am getting the 2600 versions of 7800 games.
-
Funny you should say that. I'm actually more of a 7800 guy. I'm in the process of getting my 7800 titles on the 2600 so I can play on the retron 77. I have had two crt tvs go and I have had enough. I get people want perfect but as you said that would be expensive. In my eyes the retron 77 is close enough for the price.

I really don't understand the hate for the retron 77. I recently got one and like it so far. Granted, my library is small but it plays all my games.

In Defense of Double Dragon: The E.T. of 2600 Fighting Games
envytomdead2 replied to mikey.shake's topic in Atari 2600
My curiosity for the best of me and I bought it off eBay so I'll be trying it out soon. Perhaps Kung Fu Master wasn't the best example. Commando, Ikari Warriors and Desert Falcon are different and at times harder but the feel of the game is similar. Does 2600 DD have the same flavor of the 7800? In the 7800 you rely on the reverse kick almost entirely once you master that the game is way easier. Does the 2600 version get much easier once you master the elbow punch? Or is the 2600 version just brutal beyond belief? -

How does the 2600 version compare to the 7800 version? Does anybody know? People say the 7800 version sucks but I like it. For instance I feel like the 2600 version of Kung Fu Master plays pretty much the same as the 7800 version.
