  1. You know what the architecture of the 2600 is capable of better then I by a long shot, johnnywc - as Ladybug amply proves. Still, I've rarely seen anything in terms of movement on the 2600 that approaches the later levels of Pick Axe Pete(or any level of Attack of the Time Lord, or UFO) with the exception of Gyruss. Good luck.
  2. I'm not sure the 2600 could do even a moderately faithful version of Pick Axe Pete. The reasons are many and varied, but an obvious example is the random creation of a 'hole' in the floor of the mine every time you go through a door. The accumulation of holes changes the movement of rocks considerably from level to level, especially further on the game. Each rock moves independently, which again might pose specific problems for 2600. In general, I suspect that any version of Pick Axe Pete that gets made for the 2600 would have a similar look, but seriously simplified and predictable gameplay.
  3. A Wizard of Wor or Gorf for the O2 with voice would have been awesome. The same for Berzerk. I know the O2 has Amok!, but no voice support.
  4. You got that right!!!!!!!!!Just join in on one of those metal,nu metal music fan sites, this is cub scouts compared to the insults and mud slinging that is done on those sites. Well, I post at Digital Press, and they're usually way more likely to mock each other than to spend time mocking someone on Youtube talking about games. The only Toutube mockery I can think of would be the "it calm the beef min" thread, and that's just...weird. Anyway, just because the rest of the 'net is filled with meanspiritedness doesn't mean Atariage has to be. Or that we wouldn't be better served in our mean little hearts by being cruel to each other. If there's one thing being part of a large family has taught me, it's that it's way more fun to mess with those you know well than mere random mockery.
  5. Remember, being a nerd is equal to a normal guy that is drunk in a bar who thinks a 1 is a 10. The difference is that the normal guy sobers up and regains his discernment, but the nerd will always think anything less than a 5 is a 10. It's God's way of making sure that nerds get pussy too. Seriously? Are you folks movie idols or models? Are you dating stunningly gorgeous women? Or are you familiar with women only through games featuring computerized women? I've dated stunning women. She's cute, she likes video games and on at least a few of her youtube bits, even shows a sense of humor. That's pretty neat as far as I'm concerned. By the way: 1 to 10, how good looking is what you're dating now?
  6. On the other hand (and this doesn't necessarily apply to the video in question), if you don't want a bunch of pointless and/or immature remarks about your video tainting the page it's on, don't activate comments. Nothing wrong with that. Word. If the Internet proves anything, it's that there's always someone dumber and more vile than you think.
  7. Hell, if I had a dollar for every person who thought they knew jack about video games (including me), I'd be a bazillionaire. She's female, reasonably attractive and digs video games. I, for one, would cut her a great deal of slack.
  8. To be fair, they didn't say Threshold was a bad game, merely that there were much better games for the 2600 in the same genre.
  9. I always liked Starship. I also feel that it's never truly gotten the love it deserves.
  10. I know it's just me. I know the atari needs another Dath From Above game like a hole in the head. But I always loved Nichibutsu's Space Firebird.
  11. Correction: any game that requires a 9x9 maze with thin walls, as the O2 cannot do any other kind of maze (e.g. It could not do the Maze Craze maze.) Then again, the 2600 couldn't do the KC Munchkin maze (without flicker.) The real problem I suspect would be that each object moves independently of the other. You could sacrifice that, but that's one of the major contributors to playfeel.
  12. Turtles would be about the best choice for a 2600 port. Many of the others rely on on non-software add-ons (Quest for the Rings! and Conquest of the World!), the Voice unit (Smithereens! and Attack of the Time Lord!) or exploit the potentials of the O2 in ways that would be difficult to duplicate on the 2600. You'd get something that looked okay, but played nothing like the original. And, yes, I know Thomas Jentsch did a very good port of Robot City, but that's not a title that's exactly taxing either machine's capabilities. The difference between what you could do with an O2 and a 2600 could be represented in the O2's favor by Tutankham. The capabilities of the O2 made programming Tutankham for it a great deal simpler than on the 2600. In favor of the capabilities of the 2600, of course, take your pick.
  13. Those sound like something Wico might have made.
  14. I once had a girl give me her number because of my pinball skills. Unfortunately, she was with her boyfriend and I decided that a girl who's giving me her number while she's on a date with someone else might not be good dating material. Seriously, it's all about the pinball. The girls go wild for the pinball.
  15. Wow, Recycled! 38,676 on Killer Bees? Nice. I'll be playing catch-up for quite a while.
  16. This is a trick that works pretty reliably for me: When you appear on the screen, immediately 'ram' satellite after satellite. When you've hit seven satellites, pull back to the middle of the screen and wait for a light-speed starship to pass through. Kill it or avoid it, then go back to continuously killing satellites until you' killed another seven. Repeat the process. Hope this helps your score!
  17. It's good enough, if you have someone who'll play it with you. Definitely get a multi-cart if you can. The O2 tends to be underrated by gamers, im my opinion.
  18. Still reaching for that first thousand: 778 on U.F.O.! The good news is I'm scoring in the 300-400 range pretty consistently now.
  19. JellE - scoring 38 on Freedom Fighters! isn't that bad. Maybe you should concentrate on that one. The best I've ever got on Freedom Fighters! (not for this thread, though) was 300. I hope you'll keep playing!
