I love the way it is like Cloak & Dagger, a box with no picture and just the title. Either it was close to being finished or they were taking a big chance of getting it done before too many people sent their coupons in. Thanks for the share Rom.

I have no idea what you're talking about. I had nothing but kind words for him.
Somethings never change and you certainly haven't.

Thanks for quoting the entire billion-line post immediately above yours. Really. That was brilliant.
Why dont you cut him some slack. He is a man on a mission and pledged himself upon a near impossible quest. I know the feeling for 12 years ago I embarked on a similiar journey to identify quite a number of titles that at the time had no been identified and had I listened to the many doubters back then they would still be unidentified. Granted his quest is probably doomed to failure but at least he is trying so lets keep your level of sarcasm at a minimum and let him dream for a while longer.

Was it ever proved that it damaged either the cart or the system? I remember in the Atari news letter they warned it could damage the system with repeated frying but was that a real possibility? I did it for years and so no ill effects.

I guess. Kinda like how Ikari Warriors works. With 2084 there are a shit load of directional changes that need to be done so twin stick is the best answer.
Is there an Ikari controller available for pc?

That's a shame, but I know how the world works with these kind of things. It is what it is.
Too true my friend which is why I stopped caring about any of the lost titles. From a historical point of view it would be fantastic to see the finished product but as so many have pointed out about other titles, the owner can do what they want with their property so if it truly exists good luck to who ever has it.

If so, I take it it's one of those things that's not going to see light of day ?
Most probably so I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

I don't know if it is complete, it is sealed. Doesn't matter, it's sold now, nothing to see here.
Sure what ever. Happy April Fools in advance

I remember back in 82 a gamer claimed that he could make the crash car disappear but it was never confirmed how or if he could actually do it..

Space Invaders then Mr Do. To a lesser extent Mortal Kombat and Time Crisis.

I keep finding myself grabbing my head, wondering why the fuck anyone cares if these people cheated or not. Will it change your life? No!
Or is it the jealous part of you, wondering why you didn't monetize bullshit?
<majorly self censored>
Its not a case of jealousy, at least not for me. I got my Atari in 1981 and in 1982 I got my 1st Activision news letter (in UK it was the Red edition) and Todds score was prominent on the high score page. In every edition after that Todd's score stood out as the pinacle as what the average gamer could hope to achieve and when I finally got a copy of Draster I remember in vain trying to get a sub 6 seconds score. I never once believed he had cheated and I for one find it very disheartening to discover that he did. No it did not change my life but I will admit it did change my perspective on humanity and underscored that honour seems to be a truly out dated concept.

Back in the day my local electircal store called Greens had these on display for the longest time. I had always believed them to be a store promotion but obvously not as they were available in other countries. Wish I knew back then what I know now for I would have made a fortune.

Ok I am going to have to admit defeat on this. I have spent the past couple of hours going through all the topics I started or particpated in and gone through my messages on here and have been unable to find the information. Before anyone starts yes I was told by a member that they had seen it at a convention and I had no reason to doubt him. Does anyone remember who had an avatar of a helicopter? I would like to eliminate that member from my enquiries.

AFAIK Choplifter! for the Atari 2600 was never shown at any show back then.
Were's the source for that?
I thought it was Brad K but I am now thinking it wasn't him for although he cleared up the identity of a pirate game called Choplifter I believe it was someone esle on on AtariAge who told me. It was a whle ago, 2005/2006 I think so am currently going through all my correspondence to find out who it was so please bare with me on this.
-
Looking back at some old correspondence I remember Brad K advising me of the true nature of the pirate of ChopLifter being Chopper Command but I cannot confirm that it was him who claimed he saw it at a Gaming Convention back in the early 80's. I will keep looking.
-
First I've heard of that. What show was this?
I was told a while back by a member on here. I need to go through my correspondence to see what show it was and who it was who told me..

Choplifter

Judge Judy?
I didn't know you doubled for that. On a more serious note the game was reportedly seen back in the day at a gaming convention so once existed. Would be nice to see a screen shot but as usual all in the lap of the Gods.
-
You must be talking about Supergun.
Who else would I be talking about?
-
Hes making a joke. Choplifter hasnt been found yet afaik.
He sure must find it funny as he keeps bringing it up!
-
I see thanks for the information.
-
sorry, robocop it's just a version of space cavern.
Can you post a pic of the cart label?
-
Atari 8-bit for sure as Alpha Shield. It might have been released on some other computers of the time (Vic-20, C64), but I'm not 100% sure.
Thanks

People should be thanking Tempest for putting pics on his site and explaining the mechanics of the game. At least (thanks to his hard work) we can see and understand how the game was suppossed to be played. It did have a very limited run and very few were able to play it but as stated we know what it looked like and how it played. I just wish that those still held fabled prototypes would offer Tempest some pics and information so he could put them on his site whilst offering full anominity as to who owned them so they would not be pestered. That way it would be confirmed that the game in question existed and we would all share what they looked like and how they played. Sometimes reading about a game is far more satisfying than actually playing it.
