People finally getting it! About the awesomeness that is PlusCart.Usually there are 2 to 3 PlusCart orders a week. Today there were 9 and since the stock is now empty 10 stock notify requests already.
What happened, what did I missed? Has the PlusCart been on the evening news yesterday?

@Gemintronic your game is in the zip I posted, I've played the game a few times but I'm definitely not good at it by any stretch.

I changed it to that, I like that better.

Gotcha, maybe just_Quadtari games? I did the special character because it threw the folder in alphabetical order and it didn't look right.

Gotcha, I knew that updated software was coming but thought new hardware as well. Sorry for the misunderstanding, guess an Encore is on my list then huh.

I've heard that a new Harmony is being developed. Should I buy an encore now (already have regular one) or should I wait for the new one? Any major differences?

I don't believe a multi cart would work with the Retron77 but you could mod the system and run the homebrew games from the SD card. I help run PlusCart and I could zip all the homebrew games and give you a link if you wish.BUMP
looking to try out some of the new stuff on my retron & one of those multicarts
Has anyone done this work or are we forced to scour the nets for romz?

@Fierodoug5@Andrew Davie How much longer will this need to bake before I get to play around with the SD PlusCart?

I'd love to see Gyruss made better, it's already ready and excellent game with the exception of sound effects. I know it was a trade off considering the hardware.

Got another thought@johnnywc, I've been super interested in getting a colecovision. Never had one as a child and it's on my list as an adult (one could definitely sink more money into it than the 2600 it feels). I was reading the manual to Lady Bug and how your mom played the colecovision verison a lot and was sad they didn't make one for the Atari. Lady Bug on the Atari, especially the Arcade one your working on us vastly superior to the CV version. Your mom would certainly be proud.

After playing a lot of the first Lady Bug conversion you did, the symetrical play field is not bad and if you hadn't played the arcade you wouldn't have noticed. Got a question about the new Arcade one your working on, the maze flicker/fuzziness is that done to create the color of the maze and the asymmetrical format? When I first played it I noticed it but it thought it was my eyes but I see it in Stella as well.

I see someone had taken the liberty of uploading the binaries to the PlusStore for the new AA Awards. I see there's extra files in there like pdf, rtf was going to place them in backup before I removed them but wanted to check first. Was just making sure incompatible files are not displayed and navigation is easier. Thanks for whoever uploaded, had the mind to do it and was surprised it's been done. 👍

I'm an 80s kid (born in '75) and would go back in a heart beat. Absolutely loved everything that is the 80s

Thanks for clearing that up@SpiceWare I knew I was close but forgot about constraints because of hardware not personal choice and also the new Harmony being developed.

@johnnywc Usually makes his games lately as 32K and uses CDFJ. John from what I remember likes keeping games at no more than 32K because he likes the constrains of working within a given limitation. He does have some older games that are only 16k like LadyBug and Caverns of Mars.

The only problem I have with fine besides small caps it H,M and N look similar. I know it's limitations of the system though.

They all look good to me, not particularly fond of the small caps. I think I like Trichotomic-12 most of all but I'm not set on it. I change mine from time to time to spice it up some.

New update vastly improves navigation speed and keyboard. Love it guys great work.

Didn't know where to put this but I guess here is a good enough place to ask the question. I see with the new 36 character kernel shown on zph navigation up and down seems smoother than it does on plus cart. Also when I put in something like a WiFi password the pause between each character being selected is pretty good. Didn't know if when you implement this will the menu and keyboard get any quicker. I would love someday if the keyboard would be shown full qwerty and your can select each letter without a page reload, may be system limitations I'm sure no matter how crafty you get with programing tricks.

Retro games have become so popular indie software companies make a bunch every year for Steam. Someone had the forethought to make retro gaming stores, which are hard to find in my area but I make it work.

The Atari was my very first game system, owned by my parents before I even knew what it was and handed down to my brother and I as we got older (86-87). I played the system a lot, even after I owned the Vic 20 and then the C64, I still had fun with the old 2600. Fast forward to today and I play playstation, xbox games etc and the realism is crazy as well as the level of gore involved in some games. Atari games remind me not only of simpler times when it comes to being care free as a kid, no internet etc but of gaming in general.
I think prefer games that lack realism because they focus on the simplicity of game dynamics. Players when they died did so with a blip and less fanfare of today. Violence is there with the classic games but death in pixels is so different than today. Space ships may explode, characters dying, things being eaten but only for you to hit the button again to attempt to reach your next high score. I appreciate the 2600 for the lack of gore, lack of over the top fan fare. I can play a game for 15 mins or 2 hours and both have the same result. Yes I enjoy a good RPG and spend 3 hours and not realize they had elapsed but the love of being able to pick it up and play it will keep me coming back decades to come.
Games of yesterday are a struggle for players of today's generation, maybe I'm wrong. I feel they need a continual dopamine hit of loot boxes, save/check points and engaging story line to get me to enjoy some game time. Arcade games had a level of difficulty which was designed to feed the machines and keep the customers coming back to the arcade. That methodology doesn't work with today like it in yesteryear.
Anyone else feel this way? Not just a simpler time but a simpler method of gaming.

PlusCart (an inexpensive DIY WiFi multicart)
in Atari 2600
Posted
I've seen those posts and they are good arguments. There are so many people trying to do what PlusCart is already doing. I think a lot of the attraction is the fact that PlusCart to me is become mature. It's still in beta so to speak but it's far from where it started thanks to the great team we have that's constantly seeing what more we can tease out if the hardware/software. It's went from a cool device to stay informed on to "Man I have to get me one of those, that's cool!".
