I know Actually most of the PAL versions of the Thorn EMI titles do work on NTSC machines. And the NTSC versions only have a check in them to see if they are run on NTSC machines.
-
That would be way too easy 😄 In PAL-land Atari 8-bit computers were available since 1979/1980. Don't think that European users did not make any software for this nice line of machines 😉 At Atarionline.pl the games are labeled 😉
-
A quick search pointed me to a Warhawk xex-file on Atarionline.pl which was fixed for NTSC. I tested it on Altirra and it works 😉 Warhawk NTSC.xex

Another 2 tapes which are not present (yet) in any preservation project. Courbois Cassettes 603 and 604. Courbois was a very small "shady" company in The Netherlands in the mid eighties. They sold their software only at computer shows and meetings. The packaging is very home made. The basic games on the tapes are mostly type in listings from international magazines (Germany, UK, US). The owner of the company translated them in Dutch and put his own copyright on them. I guess in those days very few people knew these programs were copied from international sources. The games on these tapes are not very good, but these tapes are quite rare. Most people threw them away.... I have uploaded the original wav-files to wetransfer (free service, no account needed). They are available for 1 week only. You can download them here: https://we.tl/t-BDJvXQJeNE Attached to this post are the 2 cas-files. All games are in basic, so you need to CLOAD the games. Enjoy! I have found the quite rare release of Boulder Dash by Dutch company Aackosoft. The game is (ofcourse) the same as the other versions out there, although the loader seems to be slightly different. So these files are probably only of interest to the various preservation projects out there. The wav-file of this dump is available at Wetransfer (no account needed), but will be only available for one week. I have attached the cas-file in this post. A small update. A recent Ebay auction also shows Canniballs as Dixons Pack release.

Atari 8-bit Software Preservation Initiative

Tim has a copy of the complete set on his website: https://atari-owner.com/fun/atari-preserved-software/Atari8bitPreservedSoftware2020-01-25.zip No torrent needed -
It is NTSC-50. Sadly the starting post could not be edited.... More info on the website: http://antix.rewindgames.com/ On this page: http://antix.rewindgames.com/what-is-antix/ it says: "NTSC territory users please note: Like when you simply swap an NTSC ANTIC for a PAL one, AntiX does not create a normal NTSC signal. A good monitor or TV is required to get color pictures from the PAL ANTIC mode through the original composite or S-video output. This requires a TV that can handle NTSC-50 OR you can use a professional grade CRT monitor like the Sony PVM series."
-
Please keep in mind that AntiX will create a PAL-60 signal for displays when NTSC is selected in a PAL Atari 8-bit (quite common in Europe) and will create a NTSC-50 signal when PAL is selected in a NTSC Atari 8-bit (not so common). Without a compatible display the signal will be black and white.

After José wrote this post, he has never contacted me and never payed anything back. I applaude the kindness of the Atari 8-bit community here, but I agree with @bfollowell. I think this topic should be locked. Hopefully José will get the help he needs from the local authorities.

I totally agree with CharlieChaplin. Polish company Retronics also publishes games on tape and the owner has stated several times on this forum that he is selling just a few copies (max 20). I also publish games for the Atari 8-bit and my experience in numbers is: 1- Cartridges 2- Disks 3- Tapes

I was not aware that all this sh*t has been going on, I normally don't visit this part of the forum I have watched some videos posted in this thread, including the book review by Gallahad and read a few pages. Sorry, but I have to say that I have very mixed feelings about this topic. Please don't understand me wrong, I absolutely dissaprove the actions and behaviour of KH! Especially his actions against AtariAge! But, I have a bit of experience with some of the UK "writers" or "publishers" and to be honest I dislike most of them... The Gallahad video makes a statement about the books of Chris Wilkins and that gave me a very biased feeling...... I supported some of the retro books of these "writers" and "publishers" and my opinion is that these guys are all making these books to make money. I think there is not much hobby and passion in these books. Plus these "writers" and "publishers" seem to hate each other for many years. I am not defending KH (absolutely not!) but my personal opinion is that they are all quite similar when it comes to behaviour. That is the sole reason why I stopped supporting any retro book made by these "writers" and "publishers". I hope people can respect my opinion.

Collector's and Classic Editions - BRAND NEW games

Collector's and Classic Editions - BRAND NEW games
Fred_M replied to Duddie's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Sorry @Duddie, this is the same discussion we had before. You don't have the licenses to sell these games outside Poland. Mission Zircon is a British game by Tiger Developments. They sold their rights to different companies in different countries. But, again, do what you have to do, as long as you remember this: -
French people on this forum and French software
Fred_M replied to ebiguy's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I think you should visit the excellent site of Marceau: https://www.atarinside.com/blog/ He has a lot of French software in his collection and he also offers these as downloads including manuals and box scans. -
Collector's and Classic Editions - BRAND NEW games
Fred_M replied to Duddie's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Remember this discussion? Mission Zircon is also an UK Tiger Developments game and not a genuine Polish game. Again, I don't know what the copyright status is, I just wanted to let you know. By the way, Mission Zircon was sold in Europe by various companies mainly on disk. I think the ASF rerelease is the only version out there on tape. -
Where to buy replacement IC’s for our 8-bit machines?
Fred_M replied to YSG2020's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I buy my replacement RAM at utsource.net, never had any problems with them. I also sell some some components in my webshop, but shipping costs from Europe to North America are terrible.... -
Atari 8-bit Software Preservation Initiative
Fred_M replied to Farb's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
In Altirra 2.60 and 3.2 (on windows) it does not crash, but it does not do anything either than showing a blue screen with the yellow text "Lektion Eins". I guess this can be a result of the missing an audio track. Like the other Invitation to programming translations I think this one should be run from tape only. My experience with not loading cas-files (and the original wav-files) in older versions of Altirra and the other way around is only with tape files (cas/wav). They all stopped loading without any error message. These titles did not start at all. According to phaeron this has to do with the fact that from Altirra 3 (and higher) he increased the precision of the datastream. As a result small glitches in the audio stream were not picked up in older versions of Altirra (below 3) but are picked up in the newer versions. So I guess (I am not an expert on this) that you should try to get the dumped cassette tape files, not this ATR on which the basic files were csaved. -

I also have some cas-files that work perfectly in the older versions of Altirra (versions starting with 2.) and do not work on the newer version (3 and up)..... -

Fred_M replied to Farb's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I think I had the same problem as you did. Three lines of text, a few seconds of music and it crashes. I had this when I loaded this cas-file in an older version of Altirra (in my case 2.90). When I load it with Altirra 3.10 it runs fine. And when you load it with a later version of Altirra (and without acceleration / or with real HW and the SDrive Max), don't forget to hit a key after the 1st stage is loaded, the seconds stage will load after a key is pressed. -

Hey Roland, The files Timothy are offering are from the latest torrent from a8preservation.com. As you know we make and verify dumps from official sources only. Just to make sure we only offer the software in its original form. Sadly we don't have access (yet!) to the original cartridges and disks of the titles you are stating. As you are already a (respected) member of our little forum, let's continue there to see which files we can use from your sources -
Would you buy a boxed and cart version of a free game?

I think yours is quite decent, this is what I got.... -

There is a market for nice homebrew packages, but to make sure you will not get the wrong impression of the poll results: - Most people who are visiting this topic are people who do buy physical releases, so the poll results are not that accurate - Expect to sell (at the right price) dozens, not hundreds of copies
