  1. It is mostly US based perhaps because he is based in the US and had to travel to see these people. I'd say mostly Infocom based but he does cover the early history of how it all got started including the actual cave. Personally I think a bit too much time was spent on the cave but it was interesting. Scott Adams is interviewed as well but to answer your question it is mostly about text only adventures. There were some things I enjoyed and some I didn't. I felt there were too many interviews from game players with little to add. The Infocom material was very good. With an undertaking such as this each one of us would have a different focus area of what was important to us. It would be hard to cover everything and cover it well even on 2 dvds. If you are mostly interested in the Magnetic Scrolls and Level9 games you may come away disapointed. If you take it in for what it is then you will enjoy it.
  2. Hero was my favorite of the bunch There games were also very good. Pitfall River Raid Keystone Kapers Kaboom I'm not sure I have tried every Activision title. Some I may have tried and forgotten. I need to pull these out again.
  3. The sealed Stadium Events went for over $40,000. Air Raid was the only Atari sale that I know of that went for over $10,000. There have been several NES auctions that have been over that mark. NES collectors are crazy. The sealed Staduim Events went for $12.000 (the buyer didn't have 40.000) in the end, but the boxed Air Raid did sell for $31.000 Source? The buyer of Air Raid was a well known person here on AtariAge Pretty sure that wasn't the "source" he was questioning. Correct. We all know the Air Raid was legit. Where did the info on the $12,000 sale come from? I can't imagine that the seller would just settle for $12,000 after at least 2 people (probably more) outbid that amount. Make yourself clear next time. That info came from the seller himself Sheesh, settle down. Anyone with half a brain knew exactly what I was talking about. To the public's knowledge the SE sold for $40k and the Air Raid sold for $31k. Obviously I only need a source for statement you made that goes against what is plastered everywhere on the internet. Add that to the fact that almost everyone on this site knows that the Air Raid sale was legit, and it would take a boob not to understand what I was saying. Your bad attitude and general lack common sense aside, you still haven't given me a source. You have given me a claim with nothing to back it up. Something you heard 14th hand isn't exactly a rock solid source. Please post where "he" said that it went for $12k (by the way, "he" is a she as far as I can tell). The person has a NA account and I read all of their posts just now. None mention a final price. Did you guys get together for tea or something? There have been multiple copies and multiple transactions for this title. I think he might have it confused with a 12k sale from a Craigslist buy in NY. The 40k ebay sale was the one sold with the system and a couple common games right?
  4. Problem with sealed 7800 is that you have no idea if the cart is NTSC or not.
  5. Not sure what happened with that one but do recall something. If less I don't think it was that much less. There is another for sale privately right now and I can say for sure that the high offer isn't that much less than 40k. Atari 2600 does have some collectors willing to shell out the bucks but without Wonder bidding on items he already has you would see a big drop in price after the 1st one sells. Several Gold NWCs and SE (complete or sealed) have sold now to different collectors for 5 figures. I can't think of an Atari 2600 that has sold to multiple people for 5 figures.

  7. Also should mention that the guy who sold me mine at Phillyclassic had another copy. I think they came from the same source.
  8. I kept all the paperwork when I sold the cart because the offer was only slighty more with it. I figured one day I can pick up a loose cart easier than finding a complete one. I'll have to dig it out. I know I had a set of stickers two planet charts one certificate instructions and one or two overlays that folded in the middle. Not sure what the thought bubble is but I think the pieces I just mentioned was all I had with the set.
  9. The cutout piece that goes over the 2600 switches what is that considered? Is that the thought bubble?
  10. Looks like 3 starwars games had full sized posters Apollo games poster
  11. Besides the Imagic posters did any other 2600 title have a full sized poster produced for it? Star Wars Empire Strikes Back Defend Atlantis poster. kick ass poster I found over at Atarimania.
  12. Nes collecting is much crazier than Atari collecting in general, especially sealed stuff. Sealed NES stuff is way different than sealed Atari stuff though. It is easy to find most common Atari games sealed. However, the vast majority of SMB or Zelda carts were opened, making it very hard to find sealed. The prices do get out of hand though. Look at that sealed Stadium Events from a few months back. Atari has so many rare games most people are happy with a loose cart. Most Atari collectors just try and find one of each title (perhaps variations as well) any way they can get it be it loose or sealed and as of yet I don't think anyone has ever found every title esp if you collect PAL as well. With NES you can buy them all in a short period of time if you have the cash so they had to invent a new rarity with sealed. The challenge of finding games sealed has created an artifical rarity but increased the playtime for those collecting NES.
  13. Starting bid is at 5k. A sale is possible but not certain.
  14. True. Ugly to look at it but if it saves us from 100s of other highjacked threads then it is worth it.
  15. I am saying that if you are looking for recognition you won't get it without contribution. I have collected a long time (since the mid 90s)and in that time sure I've made small contributions to the video game community and continue to do so but this has nothing to do with me. I am not the one looking for recognition or validation. You have a fanatical passion perhaps bordering on obsession at times so I am sure you could do great things if you put your mind to it. I really do hope you get the recognition you long for but you won't get it by pushing it on people. They will have to see it for themselves and if you make significant contributions they will.
  16. One might debate the effectiveness of this tactic. On one hand you may get more hits but if potential buyers think you are off your rocker then they might avoid buying something from you. If your auctions are all BINs then buyers might assume that all of your auctions are overpriced. I'm not saying it helps or it doesn't but that standee has been up for some time now so was it up while you were selling your Donkey Kong arcade game? Yep, but Donkey Kong 3 has absolutely nothing to do with Atari 2600. One is a console, the other is Arcade. Donkey Kong 3 was never made on the Atari 2600, and Atari had nothing to do with the arcade game. And there was no Buy It Now on the Donkey Kong 3. It was highest bidder gets the item. Now my Starpath games going for cheap may be a better argument. I wouldn't say that are totally unrelated. One could argue that many collectors of classic arcade games have some interest in classic videogames and vice versea but I'll leave that one alone. I will say it is possible that people seeing a high priced BIN make an assumption that all BIN from that person are over priced. It is also possible that someone seeing an auction that makes them think the seller is a little off will also avoid anything from the seller because you might have a problem. I've made both of those assumptions before myself. Sometimes I'll look at completed auctions and the highest priced auctions for a game have a blank description. Just nothing. Without a control group you will never know for sure if your crazy auctions help or hurt or are a waste of time. You would have to start a new ebay ID and then get one of the more conservative members here to form another new account so feedback and time on ebay would be the same. Then sell the exact same games at the same time with the same shipping. Only offer stupid crazy items on the one account for a few months and compare the results. We all know you well enough to know this isn't about more money or more sales but another chance to toot the Atlantis II horn. But I did have a control group of games. I think it was about 2 years ago. I put up a similar number of games when the economy was much better, around the same prices. But with no auction to draw people in. This time I sold more games this time around than last time around. So because of that I inferred that I sold more. I am not the only person to use this tactic. Ask DreamTR. He has done this a ton of times. He had a Sega Genesis BlockBuster World Championship cart up for $50,000. Marco has also preceded in this tactic. If this does not work, why are other well established sellers doing it? P.S. About the Atlantis II. My world records mean so much more to me than this game. Don't get me wrong the game is awesome, but to have two different world records in two of your favorite games of all time is just awesome. I get a ton of enjoyment out of playing both games, and it is awesome that I was able to hold world records in both games for a period of time. See this is something that money can not buy. And because of that it means so much more to me. These are something that Bill Gates can't get. He can't just wake up one morning, and proclaim, I want to buy the Galaxian, and Donkey Kong 3 record. In order for Bill Gates or any other billionaire to get these records, they are going to have to work their tail off. It is something you have to earn, not something that you can buy. Two years ago with a "similar number of games" is not a control group. Come on man. You majored in psychology right? There are some differences with DreamTr and Marco. The items they have offered for $50,000 might actually be worth 10k 15k or 20k if they get lucky. What is your sign really worth in an open auction started at a penny? 500? 800? perhaps 1000 if Wonder really wanted it. Not sure on Marco but when Dream posts something for 50k he really is looking to sell it and has sold items for thousands of dollars outside of eBay skipping the fees. Those guys you mentioned also have other rare items to sell. If you had a ton of rare signs that you were selling and then posted one of them at a crazy price to advertise it then I could see it working. Someone clicking on your Atlantis II sign and then buying a common loose game well not so much so. Perhaps if you took the humorous route like the Double Rainbow video guy. People click on his crazy youtube video and then buy his t-shirts. I put it up there to draw attention to my other auctions, simple as that. I say that it has helped, you say other wise despite the fact of me having the first hand experience. I say that others have done it, but you say others have done it for the right reasons. You really do need to get down off that high horse of yours. It is my standee, and I will do with it what I darn well please. get off your high horse - to stop acting as if you are better or more intelligent than other people Ok. Bill Gates. I think the jury is still out on this tactic. I am not convinced it helps or hurts. Of course all who use it think it helps or they wouldn't try it. That doesn't mean it works. To get back on topic I think it would be fun to see someone run 2 indentical sets of auctions from 2 "new" sellers. One of those sellers listing a single item priced at 2000% of market value and report the results of both sales and hit counts. Would all items be affected or just those closly related to the over priced item? By this time tomorrow this quote pyramid will be epic. Homer is a good guy and I like him but his need for praise knows no bounds. He has just gotten the better of me and worn out my patience. We had to hear about Atlantis II for years in just about every thread he even looked at. Then that died down when he started going for game records until this standee started poping up on eBay. His personal game records are a step up from simply owning a rare game but these are still personal goals without contribution. I am proud of him that he set some goals and didn't quit until he achieved them. Some people have never done this in life and there is something to be said for that. It may have even inspired others to try their own hand but if it is praise and recognition he longs for then he needs to step it up. If he really wants recognition so badly then he needs to knock off a goal that makes a contribution and he won't have to ask for it. The work and dedication of Al for setting up and maintaining this website , or Curt for his lifelong pursuit of Atari hardware research or any number of homebrew authors are some of those with accomplishments that contribute. They don't do it for the recognition and they don't need to remind people of what they have done every other post. His comparisons to Bill Gates tells me he just doesn't get it. Just as they said about the Shutruk Nahunte plaque in the movie The Emperor's Club - Great ambition and conquest without contribution is without significance.

  21. Most snipers use sniping programs and are NOT watching when it ends. True but if a program can place a bid for you then it is possible to create one that would also pay for you at the same time. If all bidders had to pay when they when bid (credit card/paypal hold removed after auction ends) it would for sure cut back on non paying bidders. It might reduce the number of sales in general as those who sometimes pay do still sometimes pay. Ebay could care less about seller headaches so it would never happen. Now if buyers paid the fees and not the sellers then I'm sure you would start to see some of these safeguards in place.
  22. Most copies on ebay are pulled because it is illegal kiddie porn.
  23. To tell you the truth, I just wanted the machine out of my house as quickly as possible. I had accomplished what I set out to do. That is get the record. If I went that way, I would of had to wait probably months on end waiting for an offer. I did not have months, I am broke, so I basically got rid of it. So now it is cocky not to have a reserve? Wow that is a new one. I let the market demand determine what my machine was worth. The market spoke with a clear loud voice that the Arcade machine in that condition was worth was $60. To be honest I just wanted to see what a world record machine would go for. I found out. People could care less, and my record does not have much meaning to the population as a whole. See the real D-bag in this situation is you. You come off on my auction, and try to rub salt in the wound. Yes, I now stand corrected. My world record, had absolutely no bearing on the sale price of this game. If anything it probably turned people away from the game. I would of done better had I not even mentioned the record. Sure did I think there was a chance I may make some bank. Sure I was a fool, and an idiot for thinking so. It is obvious the world literally could not even give 2 cents for this record. And yes, I got what was coming to me. But hey, I still got the record in my favorite arcade game of all time. To me that is priceless, and yeah I lost over $700, but again, I would do it all over again if I had too. Does this make me crazy? Yep, but I don't care, I accomplished a goal that I did not know if I could do. I met the challenge, and conquered it. So yes I did get what was coming to me. Out over $700, and the world record in my favorite arcade game of all time. To many I look like the stupid fool, loser. But to me, I accomplished a major goal, and my outlook on life is better for it. So the world could care less about the record. So be it. Just an idea but you could offer the guy $50 to walk away. It would be easier for you to come up with $50. It sucks when this happens. It has happened to me and many otthers here as well. This is why you see so many BINs with best offers. Many of those people were burned in the past on an auction gone wrong. When you sell 100s or 1000s then you can take the good with the bad. When you sell 1 or 2 not everyone can afford the risk.
