  1. One might debate the effectiveness of this tactic. On one hand you may get more hits but if potential buyers think you are off your rocker then they might avoid buying something from you. If your auctions are all BINs then buyers might assume that all of your auctions are overpriced. I'm not saying it helps or it doesn't but that standee has been up for some time now so was it up while you were selling your Donkey Kong arcade game?
  2. Most snipers use sniping programs and are NOT watching when it ends. True but if a program can place a bid for you then it is possible to create one that would also pay for you at the same time. If all bidders had to pay when they when bid (credit card/paypal hold removed after auction ends) it would for sure cut back on non paying bidders. It might reduce the number of sales in general as those who sometimes pay do still sometimes pay. Ebay could care less about seller headaches so it would never happen. Now if buyers paid the fees and not the sellers then I'm sure you would start to see some of these safeguards in place.
  3. Most copies on ebay are pulled because it is illegal kiddie porn.
  4. To tell you the truth, I just wanted the machine out of my house as quickly as possible. I had accomplished what I set out to do. That is get the record. If I went that way, I would of had to wait probably months on end waiting for an offer. I did not have months, I am broke, so I basically got rid of it. So now it is cocky not to have a reserve? Wow that is a new one. I let the market demand determine what my machine was worth. The market spoke with a clear loud voice that the Arcade machine in that condition was worth was $60. To be honest I just wanted to see what a world record machine would go for. I found out. People could care less, and my record does not have much meaning to the population as a whole. See the real D-bag in this situation is you. You come off on my auction, and try to rub salt in the wound. Yes, I now stand corrected. My world record, had absolutely no bearing on the sale price of this game. If anything it probably turned people away from the game. I would of done better had I not even mentioned the record. Sure did I think there was a chance I may make some bank. Sure I was a fool, and an idiot for thinking so. It is obvious the world literally could not even give 2 cents for this record. And yes, I got what was coming to me. But hey, I still got the record in my favorite arcade game of all time. To me that is priceless, and yeah I lost over $700, but again, I would do it all over again if I had too. Does this make me crazy? Yep, but I don't care, I accomplished a goal that I did not know if I could do. I met the challenge, and conquered it. So yes I did get what was coming to me. Out over $700, and the world record in my favorite arcade game of all time. To many I look like the stupid fool, loser. But to me, I accomplished a major goal, and my outlook on life is better for it. So the world could care less about the record. So be it. Just an idea but you could offer the guy $50 to walk away. It would be easier for you to come up with $50. It sucks when this happens. It has happened to me and many otthers here as well. This is why you see so many BINs with best offers. Many of those people were burned in the past on an auction gone wrong. When you sell 100s or 1000s then you can take the good with the bad. When you sell 1 or 2 not everyone can afford the risk.
  5. Wow $100 is a great price. With buys like that perhaps you shouldn't push a snipe service with the folks at Chuckwagon !
  6. Nolan knows better than to mess with George Plimpton. He wrestled the armed assassin Sirhan Sirhan to the ground after Robert Kennedy was shot.
  7. Destroy enough of them and it becomes a R6 !
  8. I use gixen.com and post snipes for auctions I will forget about. It is free for basic service and $6 a year for unlimited. But yeah I agree 20 day auctions are silly unless it is a BIN.
  9. They were given away at E3. I'd say rare but more than 500. For price hard to say. 100-300 is the range I've seen them sell for. Just keep an open search on ebay for them to get a better idea of current value.
  10. Why? Because you have an opinion and place your priorities a little differently than some others? If anyone else has a problem with that, it's their issue, not yours, fuggedaboutit! Some people will spend a lot of $ on a box, others won't, still others would but can't, and many wouldn't and can't anyway LOL... takes all types. I think the problem is that he has an issue with us, not the other way around. Additionally, he may just be seeking attention as a drama queen. After all, we are talking about a single unique event. It's not as if every day here at Atari Age is a celebration in excess and frivolity. Most of us appear to be down to earth penny pinchers, at least usually. If I felt so offended and disenfranchised with an internet forum, I would simply not come back. I would forgo the drama of: "I'm really leaving now, guys, so don't even try to stop me...I'm grabbing the door handle....I'm turning the door knob...I'm pulling open the door...This is for reals, yo!...I'm taking a step across the threshold...Stay back!...Oh? You want to tell me how great I am? How 'special' I am? How 'wonderful' my opinions are? Well, okay, I'll stay for a few minutes more, but then I'm really leaving. I mean it! Now, you were saying about my insightful wisdom?" Ironically, I suspect if people were actually jumping on his opinions and attacking him, he'd stick around for a long while. It's no fun when people don't voraciously snap up the bait. I say yes, if you're looking for drama, attention, and ego stroking, then you may not fit in here. All is IMHO. Well, OK, now that I've had a chance to cool off a bit, I feel like I should probably come back and at least address some of what you said, so I don't come off looking like as much of an ass as I set myself up to be! (Whether or not I really AM that much of an ass will probably be determined by the end of this post.) Yes, I can see quite well how the way I acted would prompt a response like this, and probably to some extent you were right. Unfortunately all of this came as I was in a bit of a misanthropic funk, so my opinions were exaggerated. On the other hand, as CPUWIZ notes: I'm hardly a n00b in these parts. Look at my post count! Look how long I've been here!! Respect my seniority!!! Blah blah blah. I guess there was probably a bit of wistful nostalgia for the way things were back in 2002 when I was a hardcore member of the community. The fact is, I've scarcely posted here in the last 4 or 5 years. I had already drifted away. I suspect that the different values I'm perceiving now have probably always been around, there just haven't been $31,000 Air Raid auctions to amplify them. Again, congrats to Tanman on the great find, and I'm glad at least that the winner is someone who appreciates the Atari 2600 instead of some money-grubbing speculator who just wanted it because of its potential to increase in value. I still find it utterly staggering, and honestly disheartening, that even the rarest of rare, holy grail Atari item could sell for anywhere near this amount of money. On the one hand I honestly don't think it's worth it, and on the other I think it changes the character of Atari collecting. Even if in this particular case the nostalgia and desire to preserve this era in technological history are still at the heart of the transaction, it changes things. And the fact that things are changing like this, and that most people here (seem to) see it as a good thing, saddens me, and that is why I feel like I don't fit in anymore. But since I was visiting so rarely in the months/years preceding this event, maybe I just didn't fit in anyway. I'm not posting all of this to try to get attention or to get people to beg me to stay. Honestly, the only reason I posted that last message (and this one) was because I had been gone so long, and I had hung some things out to dry in this thread, and I felt like maybe I should at least provide a tiny bit of an explanation of why I was likely to disappear again, for the few who've been around as long as I have and who just might wonder what happened. How have things changed? A rare game with not the greatest game play sold for a ton of money. Just look at the greatest games ever made for the Atari 2600. Adventure, Pitfall II, Pitfall, Combat, Space Invaders, and a ton of other great games. Last time I checked all of these games have made a significant impact on our culture, yet anyone, and I mean anyone can go and buy one of these games. Freak even sealed these games usually go for under $20. Now let us look at comic collecting. Lets look at the comic books the influenced history. Amazing Fantasy 15 (Spider-mans first appearance), Incredible Hulk #1, Fantastic Four #1, X-Men #1, Tales of Suspense #39 (1st Ironman) Avengers #1, Action Comics #1 (First Super-man appearance), Detective Comics #27. Tell you what try collecting any of those comics in even horrible condition, and guess what? Be prepared to have to pony up at least $1,000 on up. And if you want the Action #1, and Detective #27, be prepared to bring to the table with you $20,000 for a lousy cover. So why are you complaining? For the most part, only the rare games that almost no one wanted at the time are the ones bringing in big money. The games that actually mean something can all be had easily. For me when I look at my Combat I see a Fantastic Four #1, When I see my Space Invaders I see an Amazing Fantasy #15, When I see Adventure it is like an Incredible Hulk #1 to me. I feel honored to have the video games in my possession. They are beautiful games, and amazing games. Here is a combat with box that someone could of bought for under $5 shipped. eBay Auction -- Item Number: 160420807425 Here is a sealed Red Box version of Space Invaders that someone paid under $9 for shipped eBay Auction -- Item Number: 280489196853 Here is a boxed Adventure game someone got for under $14 shipped eBay Auction -- Item Number: 350303270245 And here is a Frogger game someone got complete in box for under $8 eBay Auction -- Item Number: 300411663959 So tell you what, when the hobby starts jacking the prices on these games that actually brought enjoyment to many peoples lives than given your mindset I could see you leaving. But this is not the case. Comparing comics to videogames doesn't work well. Comparing records to videogame works better. Many top selling records are worth very little only the rarest LPs by the most famous artists are worth anything.

If you are worried pick up another for $3-5 and open the one in worse shape. Or pick up a loose cart for $1-2
  12. Egads a fake auction that never ends with a high bidder !! Yes some will gripe. Not that those who gripe would have won such an auction anyway and those same people are currently gripping about something else anyway. My question is this. IF the box is real where is the real AA April Fools joke? This auction is featured on the homepage and I don't see anything else of interest posted anywhere.
  13. I didn't know so many Air Raids were out there. How many Lochjaws are known?
  14. Yep, because Mario Bros. is just as rare as Spiderman #1. It is demand that makes Amazing Spiderman #1 more valuable. Do a check on Ebay for completed listings of Amazing Spider-man number 1 and you will see 20 different Spider-man #1's. There were 13 different Mario Bros. carts also sold. In fact over 1622 different Amazing Spider-man #1's have been graded. See what you may not know about me is I also am an Amazing Spider-man collector. Have been for a few years now. Sure I will give the point that a lot more people would be selling Mario Bros. if it was game that sold for at least $1000 in almost any condition, and $200,000 in cherry mint condition. But it is not as rare as you may think. See Amazing Spider-man 1 came out in March 1963. In about 2 or 3 years there would start to be actual comic book conventions. There were stories of a dealer at one convention having a stack of at least 100 Amazing Spider-man #1 comics for $5 a piece in the mid 60's. Which would already be 20 times cover price. The original print run for Amazing Spider-man 1 was about the same as the Atari 2600 version of Mario Bros. About 300,000. Yes, paper does dispose quicker, and yes people are more likely to throw paper out, but $5 back then was a big amount of money. Enough for people to scour yard sales, and buy up as many Amazing Spider-man #1's as possible. So ending. Is Amazing Spider-man #1 rarer than the Atari 2600 version of Mario Bros? Probably, but not much more rarer than Mario Bros. Maybe it is 2 to 3 times rarer given the fact it is 20 years older than this game. So it is the insane demand that makes this issue worth so much. Have to back him on this one on that one point. Spiderman 1 is pretty common however a complete mint copy is pretty rare. A loose game is the same as a comic without the cover...incomplete. Spiderman 1 has always been one of the more expensive silver age Marvels. I believe Mario for the 2600 is a sleeper but at this point it is worth far less than many of the other desired Atari 2600 games. So I have some issues with that correlation.
  15. $6 a set but that was my per piece bulk price on the whole lot. I don't really want to mail these out one at a time. UGH. I really was hoping someone local would want them all and I could be rid of them without shipping anything. I have 7 pms to respond to so let me try to find a bulk buyer and if I have no other option I'd consider smaller sales.
  16. Ok he doesn't have the cash. So I will be listing the Telegames too. Looking for $6 each + any costs (shipping, paypal whatever)on the controllers
  17. There is someone local who might be buying these. I'll know today. He is also looking at 150+ telegames games I have.
  18. I can't find World Championship Baseball. Is there a reason it was not included?
  19. That is School girl in a short dress, Feedback (S*** 211) that is Bidding that up. Sometimes He, She, Pays a lot for stuff , That isn't worth it. . 20. I have a huge box of these things taking up space. There are at least 50 of them here. If you live near Cleveland or are coming to the CCAG show in May that would be a plus.
  21. I picked these up some time ago. Is this what you are looking for?
  22. You got a nice collection of cart, box and instruction pictures going though !
