As each hour and day in the studio costs money, poorly prepared musicians are a nightmare as well as sloppy performances make a record sound bad, not good

There is a differences between being ill prepared, and being able to improvise. Kurt Cobain's guitar technique was often labelled as sloppy by "besserwissers",  but some think it was one of the elements that gave Nirvana it's unique sound.

Thats all fine and dandy with something for free, but put a price tag on it and things change dramatically.  Long time, hard work making it the best it can be and then thorough testing is a must.

What mean I mean is a little bit like the first half of the Led Zeppelin records (which are timeless classics), there must have been a great deal of improvisation going on there? Because the songs tends to sound a little bit different when they played them live. Which added another dimension to it at each gig. They probably had a limited ammount of time in the studio, and I don't think they had all the material set in stone before they started recording. However, the recordings became a kind of reference point to which they could give variations at each live performance.

At the current pace, after another game or two, the carts will be in the AtariAge store before completion of concept. Looking forward to it!

I don't think time is important, inspiration comes in waves. Sometimes there is no inspiration for a long time, while at other times inspiration comes all at once.

Of course, long time perfection of an inspired idea will make it better, but sometimes it's just best to let it be as it was at the first moment (before you use your logical thinking to trash it)

And JAS hopefully 1,5 years. ;-)

Our team is becoming a well oiled machine.

Yeah I agree, glad that the Jaguar get so many cool games. To all the people out there pushing 8-bit hardware, you will never get a game that looks like any of the latest homebrew for the Jaguar!

    молодцы ребята, вы все прекрасные!

Thank you - yes I've visited there the games look get - going to purchase some from the UK/EU sites as the games appear cheaper/less shipping and unsure if AA store has their UK shipping Tax done and dusted yet. I could be wrong.

    :)

I have a webshop that sell some homebrew games (Atari Jaguar and Vectrex) that ship from Europe:

PS. If you want to buy Asteroite directly from UK, you can also check with @Gaztee:

With software only, it's not possible to tell the difference between dirty contacts and a bad/missing EEPROM chip.

Yes right, (besides from being bad) it will appear either as missing, partially connected, or not connected at all.

PS. Normally I would expect some transient-voltage-supression-diodes on the sensitive connections to battle the cat problem.

But the Jaguar is a big cat. How is he supposed to play the game, then?

The big cat is a speed-runner, he doesn't need saveslots!

Thanks for the tip though, the EEPROM check function indicates that static memory isn't working according to spec, but it can't really tell why? Either the chip may be broken, or not present at all (which I doubt, unless the cat ate it)?

  8. If you have to pat your cat while playing the Jaguar, keep your fingers away from the cartridge connectors.

Your cat may generate a potential of thousands of volts, while an EEPROM chip is designed to operate at a few volts.

NOTE: That this is just my theory ?

So… I returned to Asteroite after a long time away, and I seem not to be able to save. My old save game was gone, and new save games don’t seem to take. Is there some trick here or is there something wrong with my eeprom?

Where did you buy it from, I can only diagnose the problem if it was shipped from Europe?

If you purchased from US you need to contact @Songbird, if you bought from UK you need to contact @Gaztee.

He hated programming it. At least that is what he wrote on twitter. Sounds bitter.

Yes, of course if you want to program in something like C#, or Java, neither are there any "Click n' Play" tools like Unity, and Game Maker Studio. The Jaguar should be possible to program using C++ though (if you fancy some parametric object oriented programming, which in my opinion is more powerful than for example Java?)

  11. We have so many game ideas in the making right now, but I hope we can narrow it down (this is definately one that will make it to the list). We also have a very interesting collaboration that I hope we can announce very soon?

You should probably add Sébastien Briais to this project, as he has made a lot of customizations (on my request) to the Removers' library in order to make texturemapped 3D come true on the Jaguar (in a homebrew game).

Dang this looks AWESOME! I hope this gets finished! With sped up gameplay and adding enemy AI this could be a killer title. I also hope it gets a legit box and manual. I would buy several copies. Keep it up!

Yes work is being done, mostly on the art side right now.

  14. I was finally able to give this game a blast after I returned from a long journey.

Very nice presentation, thank you @CyranoJ and @agradeneu!

I got to the 3rd or 4th level on the rocky planet, but this is probably as far as I can get? These spontanous gravitic eruptions are really challanging in combination with reverse gravity pull ?

I'm about 60% through my first run, and I've had to play this game like countless other great replayable games over the decades that get dismissed by the interwebs as "shallow" or "quarter munchers".  This isn't NES level try and redie, or the PS2 "revivals of those that cheapen even that with restarting entire sections without power ups or specifics you earned. This is just me missing gameplay mechanics that are right at my finger tips the entire time.  And I've played this the same with the original 3 Button Jag pad and the Pro Controller recently discontinued, to no ill effect either way.

I got stuck at the slime boss featured in one of the preview videos, without the high jump or the flip to make it easier to maneuver.  He was still beatable, I just had to figure it out like Shadow Dancer's last boss and his minions on Genesis.

I am glad you see the depth of this game. I wanted it to be a little bit different by offering multiple choices:

    THERE MAY BE SPOILERS INSIDE!

    Spoiler

    1. If you choose one path (getting all the skill upgrades in the originally intended order), the game can be quite linear. You basically go from left to right over the game world. This is for the people (like me) who dislike the extreme backtracking that may be present in other Metroidvanias.

    2. There are several options to break the originally intended sequence by using for example the bomb-jump. Depending on your skill it will be tougher, and tougher to go ahead without the other intended skill upgrades, but it is up to you to decide for how long you keep trying to get on?

    3. You can get into some really tricky situations depending on where you save. Note that it is always possible (although it may be very hard) to get back if you saved at some point without the skill upgrade that makes it easier to go ahead, or go back. So here it's up to you again, do you keep trying to get out if this tricky situation, or do you just start a new game?

    4. There are places where you can get an important item guarded by a mini-boss without even fighting it. Here you have to use your wit rather than your skill.

    5. The lab area is a strage maze that looks very similar even if you are at different places, the task is to orientate despite this challange (anyone played the last level in the game "Psychic World?"). Still we wanted to offer some reward if you had a hard time to find your way to the end of the game (this was not in "Psycic World", but @Eternal-Krauser wanted to offer some reward for this, in "Psychic World" you just lost a lot of health wandering in cirles, fighting enemies)

These are just some of the design decisions we made during development of this game. I cannot speak for others, but if someone finds this game 'shallow', I doubt they have spent enough time with it?
