  1. three thumbs up... maybe I shouldn't drink the radioactive water
  2. Thank you for the link! Yes, i own the 16K 600 XL, and i can't wait to buy and play the first games! I am looking for the "standards" like Donkey Kong /Jr., Pole Position, Moon Patrol, Joust.... ...and i am looking forward to play in the 8-bit-HSC from time to time! I think I have one of the later models. The serial-nr. is 83A EU 16403 463 (Made in Hong Kong). And here is a picture: I would heavily recommend upgrading it internally to 64k. It's a very simple modification to do (if I can do it so can you LOL)
  3. Pretty sweet... I would be interested in one even though I have many upgraded Ataris.
  4. I've never used Altira, I use atari winplus 800... Is there any benefit to switching to Altira? that those of you that have used both can tell me?
  5. MG, tried to PM you but your mailbox is full... sent you an email instead...
  6. Way above my pay grade LOL... I'll stick with my big white 1.5a Atari power supply... Those are supposed to be the most reliable...
  7. There are two main 65XE boards... most of the European ones are really 130xe's without the memory... The majority of the American machines are first run boards that only have the one ram bank... as FlashJazz said, on the XL look at the 4in1, seems it's not booting right, maybe reverse the upgrade and install the stock OS.... on the XE touch the memory chips and see if they run hot, sounds like some of them might be faulty.
  8. I hear that some people take small 5vdc 1.5 amp+ switching power supplies from other electronics and wire on an Atari plug... Would you still need a fuse/crowbar on that? Something like this (this one is 5vdc 2a)
  9. I'm okay at soldering and following parts diagrams... however I'm not sure I understand the above diagram (circuit reading was never a strong point of mine)... can anyone help me out? Also what type/size fuse to use? and where does it go? I'm thinking this is outside of my scope... I have a couple of the 1.5a Atari PSU's I'll just make sure I only use those on the upgraded machines.
  10. I've tried the sticks with a bunch of PC games as well as other atari emulators.... Xformer is the only one that wont work.
  11. I can't get any joystick to work in xformer, nor do I get sound. even when selecting those options.

  13. No - I used the directions from the schematic "connect this just after power switch of your Atari". There is no difference in sound quality when this is connected or disconnected. Stephen, try connecting the power connector (j21) from the +5 of a cap closer to the I/O board, rather than at the power switch. I know it's listed that way on the schematic, but I think that was the fix (Candle currently has my board or I would check for sure)
  14. Big mistake on my part. I was going off a wiring diagram I got from Simon. The only connection to the IO board was the +5 and Gnd coming from SIO. I assumed that powered the board since I did not have any other reference. I put the cap across that 5V and Gnd point. I will make the change. Sorry Stephen, my diagram isn't the greatest, I hashed it out with candle and I think we both got our wires crossed at some point on the power connection... I had the same issue with hiss on covox and dual pokey... Eventually the power cable was shortened and the cap added in the correct place (as Candle mentioned)... I think Candle would admit that he makes good stuff, but his installation documentation (or lack thereof) is an issue for those of us that are not as skilled at putting this stuff in (and I know I'm a lot less skilled than you are Stephen). I've offered to try and help document this stuff, but as before I think stuff gets lost in translation... That said I would still recommend Candle's products
  15. I think you are correct, I have the revised edition that Rybags is referring to. That came out in 1985 and it has the COMPUTE Publications logo the same as the one on the right. I also have the non revised copy that is shown on the right in the picture and the interesting thing is if you look at the copyright notice on the page over from that it reads "Printed and published in the United States of America by COMPUTE! Books, A Division of COMPUTE! Publications, Inc. Robert C. Lock, President and Publisher" So all they changed was the logo page. Ibaeza, what happened to the front covers? Mine have the glossy printed cover with the Atari Logo.
  16. I knew it was an older device, I just figure someone here who is more knowledgeable could make it better
  17. http://home.arcor.de/grasel/restarte.htm the switching power supply here. There are instructions for download but they are in german lol
  18. $50 is about what they go for shipped... And I don't see them up very often either (more often in euro auctions for some reason) It's worth the cost IMO
  19. I would think that kind of defeats the purpose of this adapter. To support your configuration you'd need one beefy power supply plugging into the unit, and most people don't have 2A plus adapters lying around. So you'd have to purchase one, and the higher amperage ones can get pricey... Of course it defeats the purpose, I'm talking about a completely different type of product. I have no need for a single adaptor as I would have to buy at least eight of them. What I am talking about is something that has the PSU built in. I'm not talented or knowledgeable enough to make something like this but I've seen such items via Euro Atari sites and would be interested in a US sourced version at a reasonable price. Looks like KJMann is already making a type of product and was throwing the idea out there to see if anyone else was interested in making it.
  20. Shipping seems too high to Indiana using the ebay calculator.
  21. What I would rather have is a power supply that has the ability to run several machines and multiple peripherals as well... for example have one power cable to the wall and then either multiple cables coming out the other end (two or three 5 dins @ 5v, and five or so barrel connectors @ 9v for peripherals), the cables could either be hardwired, or plug and play (double ended - so you only connect what you need)
