My pampered Intellivision and it's violent death

Is it cheap to collect for? I saw a math fun for $200 smackers! Is this any good? I have a working GC. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Intellivision-Lives-Nintendo-GameCube-2004-GameCube-Game-CIB-Complete/293186034721?_trkparms=aid%3D555018%26algo%3DPL.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D59445%26meid%3D4d3999c0a4a048bab9a334e1a6ae78e4%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D302761913994%26itm%3D293186034721%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2047675&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851 -
My pampered Intellivision and it's violent death
Blarneo replied to Blarneo's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
I know most here already know this, but the storage box I had was this. Some people really take care of their 40 year old things! -
Since I was used to an Atari joystick before I bought mine as a teenager, the controller took some getting used to. But I did find that it worked quite well with most games. I didn't know this at the time, but if the game was designed for the INTV controller (like Burgertime or Lock N Chase) it worked flawlessly, but if the game wasn't, like Coleco's Donkey Kong, it was truly AWFUL! But Coleco's DK was a truly awful game. I also liked the fact that I can pause my games by pressing... umm... IIRC buttons 1 and 9, I think. The screen goes black & pauses the game.

My pampered Intellivision and it's violent death
Blarneo replied to Blarneo's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
Sadly no. But I'm buying 2 Amicos. One for me & one for my sister. I sold my NES for a Sega Genesis & after that, I never gave another game system away. They're all up in my closet with the Dreamcast still hooked up to a bedroom TV. -
This is going to sound like a Toy Story plot line about when kids grow up & abandon toys, but I'll make it short. So In 1981, I hoarded my allowance, lawn mowing money, babysitting cash and all I could to afford the $250 price tag for an Intellivision. Frog Bog was what My Mom bought along with me getting Sub Hunt or Astrosmash (can't remember exactly) along with it. I babied that thing. I had this plastic storage box made my Imagic that fit it perfectly. I panicked when my mom would pull the controller cord & drag the console closer to her so she could lounge and complain that "This controller doesn't work! It cheats!" 😂 Through high school, it gave me lots of enjoyment for me & my friends and my little sister. Then I joined the Army out of HS, and left it at home. My sister grew older to 8-11 years old & played with it along with her friends while I was gone. The console was in perfect condition when I got home. I hung about for a year or so & my sister & I enjoyed it. Then I went to college in 1987. It still worked like a charm. I gave it to my sister, cause I knew she would take care of it. I acquired 3 tween and under 10 step brothers during that time & while they had a Nintendo NES, they commenced to abuse and destroy my Intellivision. Ripped the controllers out of the console, broke into and lost a couple of cartridge circuit boards & rip off the bronze metal sticker. My mom threw it out while I was away and I never saw it or my 15 games for it again. I wish I had taken it with me.

Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

That works too. DF just needs to be bigger than it was. I bought it in a clearance bin in 1984 and was like "That's it?" The premise has potential for expansion. -

Tommy seems to have gone radio silent in the last couple of days. He hasn't tweeted or responded here since before the "Completely Unnecessary Apologycast". Hope he's just busy making great games. -

Yeah, I know. I had a post about it and other IREM games they planned on making. Looking forward for both games. Dragonfire though, begs for an adventure platforming expansion way beyond the 2 screen arcade type game it originally was. I hope it's designers agree. -

OK, there was a lot of misinformation that you absorbed through the magic of toxic internet folklore. While Don Matrick didn't do himself any favors by being so glib about it, or explain what "always on" really meant, much of it was blown way out of proportion as it wen't viral (and Sony kind of egged it on too... good marketing for them) to cast Microsoft's ideas for the console as a complete fascist takeover and draconian forced labor camp of gaming. It was a bizarre fear and misinformation fest that only rivaled the "tea party" movement about birth certificates after Obama was elected. But, since you remember it as you described, serves to make my point about how misinformation and viral FUD can affect opinions. Oh' yeah... And Al Gore never said he invented the Internet. Ever. -

Tell that to the folks at Xbox One, where this kind of FUD costed millions of potential sales in 2013. -

It wasn't what he said. It was the obnoxious and dismissive way he said it. It was also in the context of the people wanting to buy the console, which definitely makes it not a "shot at the brains behind...". A console that Pat says "only has cell phone type games on it". -

The thing is, I never had Shark! Shark! as a kid. I remember having Feeding Frenzy on Xbox 360, which I assume is a lot like it. Not a bad game, but it's no RType. Now, if they turned Dragonfire into a Ori style Metroidvania, I'd be slobbering on those red carbon controllers. Pat knew to pick a game he could mock based on numerous clones of the same type of game. -

That's strange, because that is to me an obvious snide schoolyard taunt. But that's just me. -
Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

It's just a theory of mine, but I'm just arrogant and delusional enough to share it. There are times when having a celebrity CEO as the face of a company can be a double edge sword. When a big personality becomes the face of a company, his/her image becomes indistinguishable from the products. Currently Elon Musk can be seen mostly as a nerdy engineer & sometimes visionary, but there have been times he sticks his foot in his mouth and being so attached to Tesla & SpaceX, he kind of damages the 2 companies images for a time because of it. Then there's Steve Jobs. Without him, I'm sure Apple would not be the juggernaut it currently is, but it also wouldn't be a polarizing company either. His reputation as an impatient task master and volatile hothead, not to mention a brilliant marketer, has made Apple an adore with worship/hate with a thousand suns love/hatefest of a company. His legacy lives on long after his death. People either buy Apple (Sometimes exclusively), or they will never touch anything they make. Even the most famous head of corporate image, Walt Disney, belies what the company actually was before his death in 1966. Despite the historical revisionism & rehabilitation of his sometimes dark sides by the current Disney Empire, Historically Walt Disney Studios was always a struggling studio, and often teetered on the verge of bankruptcy until it was taken over by Eisner & Katzenberg in the late 80s. Disney's ambitions were truly visionary, but he also dabbled in red baiting, blacklisting, working with McCarthy and Hoover's FBI to turn in "communists", and was a notorious strike breaker and paid his animators sub par wages. Right now, Tommy Tallarico is the face of The Amico, which means its image & possible success is synonymous with him and his salesmanship. This little dustup with a couple of YouTubers is nothing much, but it'd be wise to keep the engagement with negative people to a minimum. I can recall Xbox being on top of the world, until YouTube and Reddit decided that Xbox One was going to be the end of video games forever, and the virulent backlash probably costed Microsoft half of the sales the console deserved, putting the fallacy of "No such thing as bad publicity" into the not so true axiom it really is. -

I hope I'm not being disrespectful here, but none of those games teased look anywhere near the artistic beauty of Ori or detail of XB Killer Instinct (also 2D). I understand they ALL don't have to be, but I just hope that 14 months out, that these are still works in progress and the iPhone3 look of the games will be refined a bit. -
Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A
Blarneo replied to Tommy Tallarico's topic in Intellivision Amico
On a more upbeat note. I am very happy Intellivision has gotten license to re-design some of the classic IREM games. When they were making games, they were my favorite developer & kind of get overlooked because many of their games were marketed by other publishers. They didn't start showing off their name until the PC Engine/Turbografx era. Still, I'm glad somebody at Intellivision is as big a fan of IREM as I am. Many of the IREM alumni are still at work at a company called Granzella & they announced a new R-Type Final game for next year. Any talks with them, or any other Japanese developer? Looking forward to 10 Yard Fight, Kung Fu Master, Lode Runner, Spelunker, Moon Patrol & Especially R-Type! Hope you also pick up In The Hunt, Kid Nikki, Dragon Breed (never had a console release), Image Fight and Geostorm. -

I saw that video. I subscribe to his channel. He is a Nintendo fanboy, and his usual habit is to downplay everything else. To give benefit of the doubt, he didn't do his homework on it. I'm a nobody and I know the price point of the Amico, and what market it's going after. But I really smelled deliberate FUD from that video of his. It just oozed smarminess and gatekeeping (which I've noticed before). Even if I'm wrong, shouldn't any Reviewer at least look on Intellivision's home page to find the price point before they start filming? That said, He would "Love to be proven wrong!" 🙄 -
