  1. Did my undergrad in ChiTown...lived in Grand Rapids, MI forever so Chicago was close, but out in Cali now. But would LOVE to hit the TI Faire in Chicago again after so many years!
  2. Thinking about your 1MB SAMS card offering plus TIPI-PEB...see my PM please...
  3. Yeah, cost-wise, minus shipping on the P-Box, it's about a wash. I already ordered the 32K sidecar and case, but have not yet pulled the plug on ordering the TIPI. For overall desk real-estate purposes, internet, and storage options, the TIPE route on top of 32K sidecar is attractive. That said, I've never forgiven myself for letting my old system go (had a rare MBX for it too). It kills me to have to hunt and peck and pay more for stuff I already had. The only issues on my old system were the overheating problem on the SoB (anyone else have that same problem w/ TIM/SoB?) and the console-internal 32K I had from before I owned my P-Box (about 100 solder points on ribbon cable off the back of cartridge port go brittle over time...Bud Mills actually repaired that for me once back in the day). IF at some point I pick up a P-Box again, whaat would I want in it today: * Flex Card * One of the quieter fan mods...probably * Wonder how reliable those old power supplies are almost 40 years later? * I'd want that old Myarc FDCC that let me run the 3 1/2" floppy...forget if it topped at 720K or 1.44 version...? But beyond that...most of what I ran on floppy back then would be a moot point. * RS232...? debatable...not gonna run a printer off of it, and I haven't had a land line in years, so a modem is a moot point. * Triple Tech...yeah...though now it'd be just about the speech synth...maybe the clock cal...again...not likely to use it or printing * TIPI-for PEB...yeah...like that idea! * Horizon RAMDisk/PGram cards...don't see a need for those with FinalGROM99 * F18A MK2 in P-Box form factor kind of like the old Dijit card did for vide? Kind of an intriguing idea, though that one still required jumping the 9918 to sleep if I'm not mistaken. (My TIM/SoB was in socket replace of VDP and Groms 0 & 1 (1 &2?) What other cool P-Box cards have come out in recent years? That 1 meg SAMS board might be cool...how reliable vs flaky is that w/ memory maps, etc?
  4. Awesome! I don't want to lose time on getting the sidecar and case from the order already placed, but if you can get the power supply in a day or two, let's ship all 3 together and I can PayPal you the extra for the supply. Just let me know - thanks in advance!
  5. The power supplies listed for it on arcadeshopper are out of stock. Could you post a couple of amazon or ebay links of ones you trust for use w/ your sidecar? Also, I have ordered the sidecar and core i64 case from arcadeshopper, though since I ordered it the case is now showing out of stock. I'm hoping I got the last one or two and that my order goes out soon. If not, the place that has the case also seems to sell the sidecar: https://corei64.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=161 What do you know about the 32K sidecars there in terms of make and revision compared to the ones on arcade shopper? Wasn't sure if arcade shopper ones are your originals, what is the latest revision, etc. Thanks in advance!
  6. Is that a printed case for the TIPI I see? Oh, man! I may have to get my TIPI and a case sooner - where are the latest/greatest versions of TIPI and that case available? Think I saw TIPI on arcadeshopper...can't recall re: case beyond the one I ordered for 32K sidecar. Also...it it correct that with TIPI attached, the 32K sidecar needs to be run with external power supply, whether or not Pin 1 is bridged to carry power thru on speech synth?
  7. I'm just getting back into TI after giving up my dream TI system years ago. I'm going the newer route for now vs PE-Box like I had before...though I kind of miss that nostalgically. I have the following on the way: - Console (black and silver, non-QI) - FinalGROM99 - JediMatt's 32K sidecar and printed case w/ TIPI port (no TIPI yet but I will likely go that route... - Once F18A MK2 is available, I want that bad...had 9958 setup on my last TI and going back to 40 col will be tough. Plus..because Mario on TI-99/4A...right?! Anyhow...to the topic at hand... One card I got at a TI Faire was the CorComp TripleTech, which at the time w/ a PE-Box setup I loved for 2 of the 3 features: - moved my speech synth out of the sidecar so that only the boot was there - printer buffer - I got thru 4 years of my undergrad on my TI and an ancient dot matrix printer...that buffer was AWESOME! No more blocking on printing long papers to a slow printer...I could get on with my TI life while the papers printed away - clock cal...it was more cute than valuable, but hey...at least I could say my TI had a clock What about now? - I'm less likely to use the printer buffer...chances are I'm printing docs from my Mac, though maybe TIPI will open up possibilities there whenever I add that to sidecar? - clock cal...might be nice - having 32K sidecar and TIPI only would be nice in terms of profile/form factor So...do any non-PE-Box options exist for speech synthesizer move out like I did with my old CC TT card? Options that work with the kind of setup I'm doing? Or some smaller profile FPGA emulating speech synth (maybe with larger built-in vocabulary) that could be added to the 32K sidecar board? (not sure if there's room or not). Anyhow...for a "modern, lean" TI system like I'm setting up...what options exist here?
  8. Drooling with jealousy! Anyone get one of the few that had the built in p-code 4.x? The only thing I don't get is why TI was still throwing 9918 in there. Was it same amount of VRAM as 4a, or did they at least up that? Wasn't at least the 28 if not the 38 in use by then? On that note...my last TI had OPA's setup w/ the 58 and minus SoB overheating issue, I loved that setup! Funnelweb or whatever the Australian hack of TI writer was did a cool thing. They said, hey...since for word processing you don't need much VRAM, let's steal it and bring not just 80 col display, but multi-document editing into the mix. That sounds funny by today's standards, but for the TI it was a great, creative hack. Anyone put the F18A on the 99/8 yet? (Sorry if I'm diverging from original post topic about FinalGROM99 compatibility w/ the 99/8...I would LOVE to get my hands on a 99/8 if anyone gets a lead. If anyone had the dump of one of the few prototypes that had the later p-code version, it'd be really cool to replace that (in GROMS or wherever TI had that) subset of the chipset. Ok...y'all are the reason I was up 'til 5am after a Greek midterm exam...I feel like that kid back in Toys 'R Us looking through the locked glass cabinets at all the upgrades I wanted for my new (and newly orphaned) machine of dreams. 2019 and still inspired!
  9. Thanks! I have a FinalGROM99 on order and snagged the zip from wht. What was the dude's name from WHT? I remember chatting w/ him at a TI faire years back. the other guy that did crazy good software for TI was Mike M. (aka "Froggy" from his diving) from CTIUG.
  10. My last TI was tricked out w/ all the latest and greatest at the time (TIM/SoB, Horizon RD, CC Triple Tech, PGram, updated Myarc FDC card supporting 3 1/2" (720 or 1.44...can't recall...think 720), and snagged a rare MBX system. Anyhow...that went to a fellow TI enthusiast when my daughter was on the way and my mancave became a nursery. I'm now getting back into my first love with a console and a FinalGrom99 on order. I'm hoping the F18A MK2 sees the light of day soon as I loved the upgraded graphics on mine, minus the SoB overheating problem. Anyhow...going the whole PE-Box route now really doesn't make much sense and is inviting legacy hardware failures. So...I'm interested in the 32K sidecar with option for TIPI down the line (though bare bones PBox w/ card version of TIPI might be attractive too...). Is the one on arcade shopper latest and greatest? Can I get it w/ external power supply and case that has openings or TIPI port and for power supply, LEDs, etc? My understanding is that if you go TIPI, then even a pin 1 jumped Speech Synth may not do the trick and that it should be switched to ext power mode, right? Anyhow...I'd love to get my hands on the latest version of this w/ case and power supply.
  11. How did y'all get your hands on a 99/8?
  12. I'm just starting to get back into the TI world...I grew up on the TI, after-market enhanced mine for years, but sadly gave it up to turn my TI room into a nursery when my daughter was born. My old system had OPAs TIM/SoB, though the latter overheated constantly unless a fan blew in through the back. I had a Horizon Ramdisk and/or PGram card (think both but it's been a few) and a CorComp TripleTech that moved my speech synth out and gave print buffer and clock cal. Anyhow...now I'm starting over. I have a console (non-QI) shipping out to me in the am, but I really don't see a need to go back down the PE-Box route. (Though wish I still had mine w/ all the goodies!) My understanding is that the FinalGROM 99 is much less limited in terms of content and compatability (especially for carts that used GROMs) than the FlashROM 99, but at least in terms of images from original TI cartridges, the list posted here seems much richer on the FlashROM 99 side. And my understanding is that the two are incompatible. I do plan to add the F18A MK2 as well as soon as that's available.
