  1. Had to do a sprite test... perf wise, it seems doable but probably not in 64KB spritetest.obx
  2. Not sure the number of instruments would make a difference, LZSS compresses well when the raw pokey data for each channel is identical from one frame to the next one (and for as many frames as possible)... I doubt you'll see any improvement on the file size but no worries, it takes what it takes and the fact that the tune will be larger than any other one in the ASMA archive (relative to its duration) tends to demonstrate that you've pushed Pokey! (I'm curious it'll be possible to do a faithful 50hz conversion) Remember from an earlier post that: It may mean that LZSS could evolve and perhaps use pattern compression instead of whole tune compression but it's not that important at this point.
  3. Nice! Seems perhaps there are a few hiccups with the some of the new patterns but WIP I know! What's not soo good is that you seem to have defeated LZSS compression 🤪... at 27KB, you must have done some serious manual editing! It's also twice longer of course... I noticed version 45 was also much bigger than your initial version even though both had the same duration... Hopefully the final iteration will still fit in 64KB!
  4. more indieretronews: http://www.indieretronews.com/2020/12/this-unreal-engine-4-remake-of.html#more Uridium on Unreal4 engine... look pretty much the same 😏
  5. Was browsing indieretronews and stumbled upon a in-progress CPC version: http://www.indieretronews.com/2020/12/wonder-boy-remake-fabulous-remake-for.html Looks good but apparently the CPC can't do scrolling ? 😮
  6. Tix's a busy guy 😏, hopefully he'll be back on it soon...
  7. well I stopped caring about basic a long time ago 🤢
  8. I meant I don't remember any sound coming out of my XL... decades ago 🙂 So yeah it's mixed but I just read that the first machines actually had an internal speaker for GTIA
  9. I have no idea how GTIA sound works but I assumed it required constant updating ? You're saying it's ok to update it just 4x/frame ? It doesn't have its own speaker does it ? (I don't recall any cursor sound coming out of my XL)
  10. written from scratch and entirely in 6502 asm... not the direction I'd take 😏
  11. 1000+ downloads 🎉 Thanks to all of you who downloaded it 3 or 4 times (or from the afterlife!) 😀 here's a bugfixed cutscene to celebrate... introk2.mp4
  12. Feels so close yet so far.... At least all cutscenes are working now! (Seems like there's only one cutscene with the vizier ?)
  13. Isn't time to start a thread where we can throw in ideas and disagree about what a new tracker should be ? 😀 Aren't you sending a lot of data per frame though ?
  14. choochroo? 🤨 He said he did it in a few hours by listening to it on YT so that's pretty impressive! But it's a 3 channels tune originally?
  15. I'm still not sure if there is a difference at all between RMT2LZSS and RMT, haven't been able to narrow it down so far... Totally unrelated: Hybris Ingame tune on the C64... very nice and apparently playing at 200hz
  16. That one's a bit too medieval for my taste 😃, I prefer his demo stuff but a lot of his game tunes like Astaroth & Stormlord are pretty good too! Yes and again great job! I really like those new spacey sounds... This is a tune I've listened a lot to over the years and I'm enjoying it again on the A8!
  17. Ah, I'm way too lazy to fix this unless someone knows exactly what audctl modes to look for 😏 That's how MadMax, the ST musician started... I think he only published classic C64 covers for a bunch of years before releasing original tunes but in the end he turned out to be the ST's most iconic musician. Your BS cover is a lot better than kjmann's already nice version👍
  18. Nice sounds! Now, where's Battle Squadron final 😃 ? Keep pushing, it'll break in RMT before it breaks RMT2LZSS 😀
  19. Well it's always interesting to have that option but for me the purpose was in being able to create those pics (which requires a powerful enough paint program )
  20. I don't think there's a rule for that... the in-game tune in BS is also pretty good, so is the one in Hybris... same for those in Z-Out (to stick with the shooter category). The ultimate example would probably be Castlevania... it achieved cult status in no small parts thanks to its ingame music.
  21. But in this case, Vinscool's 100hz version of BS takes less CPU with LZSS than the Noisy Pillars tune played with RMT @ 50hz. That's the whole point of LZSS: play complex tunes without taking much CPU time. The tradeoff being memory... 50hz tunes are ok but for 100hz ones it's a bit more complicated but at 9KB, I'm pretty sure that BS tune is a lot smaller than the original Amiga version.
  22. Let us know if you need any suggestion on what other great Amiga tune would make for a nice A8 cover
  23. It's the 5 PMG curse where there's never quite enough of them or they can't be large enough despite the HW supporting >quad size
  24. Here are a bunch of (mostly cheesy) BS remixes: https://cope-com.com/download/ cope-com is company responsible for BS and Hybris... I read an interview of the coder and he was 16 when he wrote Hybris 😮
