And for all those who don't have the patience to play it, perhaps Thomas Jentz can put another perfect game together using his hacked Z26 emulator - like he did for Pitfall. That would be awesome...
-
The cheat is indeed mine, I put it together as soon as I started playing Hunchy II and noticed the game would probably get very difficult (for me, at least) on the higher levels. I can't help it, I have no patience for difficult games anymore, especially when the debugger is only a keypress away. Anyway, here's a few more if you're interested: http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/143890-a-few-hacks/ Have fun,

The easiest way to modify roms is to use Stella's debugger. For Hunchy II, find the instruction DEC $CD and change it to LDA $CD (or two NOP instructions) to get infinite lives. If you're playing in Stella, you can use load/save states to avoid having to start over and over again. Or to make it really easy, just press SHIFT+ALT+X and SHIFT+ALT+V to be able to walk right through all the enemies... Here's the infinite lives rom: hunchy2+.bin

Yes, I've made it to the final scene (a nice love scene btw), but not without cheating. (Blame Stella for making cheating so easy... Anyway, I also managed to complete level 9 without cheating, so maybe I can give you a hint. I think you're having trouble with the two bells at the end of the level, right? Well, the trick is to stand perfectly still when you jump, and you have to time your jump very carefully. After you pick up the bell in the right corner, go back to the ladder and wait until another pair of bullets (or arrows, or whatever they are) have passed. Then walk onto the platform and go left. As soon as a new pair of bullets arrives, stand still and jump after the first one has passed. Remember not to move a muscle, just jump up to let the lowest bullet pass under your feet. Then walk to the left again, stand still and jump again, right between the two bullets. You only have to do this twice; you can safely make it to the left edge of the screen after the second jump. Once there, quickly walk off the platform, so you can get to the last bell. Good luck.

I think it's strange too that there's so little interest in cheat codes. I've always loved cheating (in video games, that is). So I wouldn't mind compiling and testing a cht file for Stella, if you can find the time to fix these issues: - Codes are applied even when turned off - Pac-Man sometimes crashes when using Bob Colbert's codes (53EEA1 - Unlimited lives, 516EA3 - Power Pills last forever, 5E4EA1 - Able to eat ghosts at any time). Perhaps the codes are faulty; I haven't figured out yet which one (or which combination) is causing the crash. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. - As for the code and its parameters, may I suggest something like: 1. read bank number 2. read address (aaaa) to write to 3. read next value (dd) 4. if value = "&" go to 1 ; a different code coming up 5. if value = "#" then stop 6. write value to address; increase address by 1 and go back to 3 This would make it possible to write multiple values to different addresses in different banks, all in one line of cheat code. It could even be used to make small graphical changes in games. Btw, thank you for adding the disable sprite collision to your latest version. It works great; I'm having lots of fun with it.

I always enter my cheats directly in the debugger. I tried to make a cht file once, but I ran into some problems. I'd be willing to give it another try, if someone (stephena, are you reading?) could explain how to change more than one address in a cheat? I mean, if I wanted to write A9 00 (or EA EA EA) to 18DF and 18E0, I would have to use two cheat codes. Surely this can be done in another way, something like bbaaaad1d2d3:0 (bb=bank, aaaa=address to start writing, d1d2d3 etc. = consecutive values to write until colon is reached, :0 = off, :1= on) Also, the option to turn cheats on or off doesn't always work. For example, if you use the code 53EEA1 in Pac-Man to get unlimited lives, the cheat sometimes works when starting Stella - even when it's turned off. If we could get a good working cheat editor that allows me to write more than one value, I promise to make a biiig cht file.

I've seen it lots of times, even back in the days when I still played the game on real hardware. You can often find the stationary bat carrying the sword in the white castle, on the upper screen on the right (just above the one you can't reach without the bridge). You can pick up and drop the bat as much as you want, but it'll fly off as soon as it sees another object. If you want to see for yourself, run Adventure in Stella and change the value at $f396 from $11 to $17 so that you begin the game in the white castle. Then keep restarting the game until you see the stationary bat. Then change the value at $a8 and $e2 to $11 and start playing normally. When you enter the white castle (without carrying an object), the bat will still be there.

You're probably right, but I could have sworn I read about Men-a-vision's Air Raid here in Belgium back in 198x, long before I got on the internet. Rom, do you know if it ever got reviewed in Tilt? I'm probably mistaken, but I feel like checking my old issues of Tilt anyway...

It IS mentioned in the manual. The section "Temple Entrance" clearly says: "Four doors lead to the temple entrance; two from outside the temple, and two from deep within the temple". The first "door" from outside is of course the hole blasted with the grenade, the second one is the wall in the marketplace.

How much is a CIB Tank Command really worth? I'm in the middle of selling off my Atari collection on eBay here in Belgium, but I was thinking of selling my rare items on eBay in the US, seeing as there are probably more true collectors in the US than in this small country of mine. Also, I'd hate to sell my rare stuff to someone who doesn't really appreciate its value. On the other hand, selling stuff in the US might mean a lot of hassle with payment and shipping. I know I could open a Paypal account to make things easier, but I suspect an international transaction is quite expensive and I don't know how easy/expensive it would be for someone from the US to put money in a European bank account. Also, I notice that the shipping costs to the US are insanely high. So I don't know if it's all worth the trouble. Is Tank Command really valuable enough, considering how much an international transaction would cost?

Ok, it was 1997, found it on http://www.atarihq.com/2678/okielist.html Sorry, should have looked better before posting...

Hi, I was looking up some info about Okie Dokie on AA to include in my eBay listing, when I noticed that the year of release on AA says 1985. Surely this must be wrong. My cartridge is one of the original first batch of 100 copies, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't 1985 when I ordered it. I checked Bob Colbert's page, but didn't find the exact year of release there either. Anyone knows what the exact year of release was for the limited edition of 100 copies? Thanks,

Is there a way to get more than 31 pieces of candy in E.T.?
Luc replied to Random Terrain's topic in Atari 2600
Coooool! I have been trying to find Ninja ET for ages, but I never succeeded. I even started to think that this was maybe some early easter egg that was removed from the code when the game was released. Glad to see I was wrong! I just experimented a bit myself, and found that there are some more strange things going on. What I did was give Elliott 3 x 9 pieces of candy (by changing the value at $d2 in the debugger) to get all the pieces of the phone, and then took X pieces with me in the spaceship. When X = 5, I got this: When X = 6, I got this: When X = 7 or 8, I got this: And finally when X = 9 I got this: (The strange character looks a bit like Obelix in the Obelix Wave in Asterix, don't you think?) However, I never managed to walk around in the ninja suit like you say you did. As soon as I started moving, ET got his usual color back immediately. (?) Anyway, congrats and thanks for solving this mystery! -
I think my rarest cart is Tank Command for the 7800, complete with box and manual. It won't be my rarest for much longer though, as I'm about to sell it on eBay, along with the rest of my stuff. I think I'm going to keep my CIB Waterworld though -- too much nostalgia there

Yes. You can drop a bag of coins anywhere on the left part of the black market and he'll let you pass (as long as you don't touch him). But as soon as you wander off too far to the right (past the basket to be exact), you'll have to bribe him again if you want to go back to the left side. Of course, none of this is necessary to complete the game.
-
There's really nothing to it. As soon as you arrive in the black market (after giving the Chai to the black sheik), just drop a bag of coins (before even moving) and he'll let you pass.
-
No. You need the Chai to make the Yar appear on the flying saucer mesa (4:10 in the video). Finding the Yar is required to get the HSW2 signature at the end. For more information about the scoring system, see Scott Stilphen's excellent Raiders page: http://www.digitpress.com/eastereggs/26raidersofthelostark.htm
-
Here's a video I made of a perfect game of Raiders of the Lost Ark, complete with Yar and signature. I also think this is the best/shortest route through the game. (Perhaps this has been done before, but well, I was bored...) http://home.scarlet.be/~pin00842/PerfectRaiders.avi (11.5 Mb) Note: I had to wait three full minutes in the map room. Fast forward to 4:30 if you don't want to wait. Enjoy.

Hehe... That Homevision Copy Cart on the shelf used to be mine. I remember selling it on eBay, but I had no idea it ended up in Germany, I could've sworn I sold it to a Belgian guy. Anyway, I'm glad to see it's being taken good care of! Did you ever manage to get it working again?
-
Rom, Here are the scans you requested: http://home.scarlet.be/~pin00842/scans.zip (15 Mb) All of them are scanned at 300 dpi. I will leave the resizing up to you, so you can make them any size you want.
-
I see I made a mistake in my list: Codebreaker and Human Cannonball do not have a color manual in 5 languages, only the English one is in color, the Dutch and French manuals are in b&w. See attached file for the other scans (150 dpi). -- Edit: I'm having trouble uploading the file to AA, so I've put it here: http://home.scarlet.be/~pin00842/manuals.zip
-
No problem, I'll scan at 300 dpi. I can use the magazine setting, but it doesn't seem to make much difference when scanning at such a high dpi value - the ink dots are always visible at 1:1, which at 300 dpi is normal I think. Resizing the picture to 50% of its original width usually gets rid of these lines (if you use smart resizing), and then the picture is still more than 2000 pixels wide. The average Atari box scanned at 300dpi is about 5500 pixels wide, so you have to make it smaller anyway if you want to fit it on a screen. Also, why should you let a simple scanner do what Photoshop or any other serious graphics program can do so much better? Isn't it better to start with an unprocessed scan and then apply the effect yourself? Anyway, I'll do my best to make clear scans. Keep in mind however that some of my boxes are slightly creased or dented, and dents in the cardboard are always visible on the scan, especially when scanning white boxes. Please don't ask me to iron them first.

You can of course disable the sprites themselves, which will disable collisions. But then you don't see the sprites anymore! Being able to disable the sprites and still see them doesn't sound too hard, now that I've rearranged the code to make it much easier to follow. I'll consider this for a future release. Thank you! Really looking forward to this.
-
Just a quick question if you don't mind: would it be possible to have a "disable sprite collisions" toggle like the Atari 8-bit emulator or is that not possible? I think it would be awesome...

Hello, I am compiling a list of all my Atari stuff because I am planning to sell it in the near future. Although I still love Atari games (I play Adventure almost daily), I have completely switched to emulation and I do no longer need or want all this stuff which has been sitting in boxes for years. But before I put everything on eBay I'd like to ask if there is something that you want me to scan. I believe I have some items that I haven't seen in AA or Atarimania's databases, like a PAL Brain Games with blue front label and red end label, and maybe some other carts/boxes as well. There may also be one or two catalogs which I haven't seen on AA before - but I'm not 100% sure. Anyway, if you want to take a look, my list is here: http://home.scarlet.be/~pin00842/atari.html Please let me know if you see something that you want me to scan before I get rid of my collection. Thanks, Luc.
