My icon, now with rainbow colours :-) I guess the background would be transparent which is IMHO better than a uniform square.
-
Could you be more specific? An example maybe? :-)

This is my attempt at Altirra icon - it does not use the Atari logo font. Instead, it uses the Atari system font. Hope you like it. Suggestions welcome! Classic 32x32 icon: Large 48x48 icon:

I hope the icon graphics will be done also for us who like large icons (48x48) I may try to draw something if I find some spare time.

Happy New Year with tons of beautiful Atari stuff

I've been playing in my graphics editor just for fun and this is what I came up with :-)

It's already converted to multicolour. The original sprite is up to 51 pixels wide (that is, for the PC version).

IMHO the dynamics of the game allows for reducing the overal framerate to half of the screen refresh, maybe even third (that would be 30/20fps on NTSC, 25/17fps on PAL system). The thing I'm afraid of is pre-shifting. After some checking I found out that Kid is able to move in 4 pixel steps (half a char on Atari] which would double the memory requirements of the sprites. However, if the game was running in lower framerate, shifting might be done on-the-fly. Another issue I found is the variable size of the sprites. Kid's sprite can be anything from 5 to 25 pixels wide, not counting the sword. Its height is up to 57 pixels. If the sprite was stored as equally sized frames, this would equal to 7x8 chars, that is, 56 chars just for the Kid. Now subtract another 40-50 chars for the enemy and you end up with about 20 chars for the background. Not to mention that this way the sprite data for Kid would occupy about 90 kB not counting PMG under/overlays. We have to find a more economic way to store the animation frames, otherwise even a 130XE wouldn't suffice.

The pink is kind of hard to work with in the background graphics, better make it more into orange. If this is gonna be the skin colour, it should not pose a problems since the Persians are not pink anyway :-)

Hi Pete, could you please attach the animations to a post or send them to my mailbox? I may try to find some time to convert them for Atari use. Thanks, PG

Atari Win800plus recording AVIs problem
pseudografx replied to oky2000's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Try AutoGK for compressing the uncompressed output. It works for me. Also make sure to install the lastest codec pack (I use K-lite), see http://www.codecguide.com/download_k-lite_codec_pack_full.htm -
The screenshot of the atari version also uses a wrong palette which makes it look quite dull; here is how it looks with a more exact palette (OlivierP.pal): Compare to the original version:

ASAP is the closest to the real thing though it cannot handle emkay's and analmuxes experiments properly :-P see asap.sourceforge.net

A new Pokey tune: Unusual instruments?
pseudografx replied to analmux's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
That is amazing! I love the sound that goes from 2:18 on. Is it possible to reproduce it in standard RMT? Also the triangle waveform that preceeds it is very nice. -
Momentálně nám základ už krásně funguje, bude potřeba jenom mírné předělávky, pár zvuků a nějaký ten postupný nájezd na začátku a máme hotovo. Tak se těšte!

Unfortunately, this is just a proof of concept rather than work-in-progress. However, this engine should be supposedly used for some "bigger project", just like the Turrican engine shown a few days ago.

Hi, this is just a theoretical "market research". I would like to find out how many Atari users would be interested in SDrive (see http://raster.infos.cz/atari/hw/sdrive/sdriveen.htm) card reader for the Atari 400/800/XL/XE machines. The supposed price would be from around 15 euro for unsoldered board with components to around 40 euro for version in a case, with a SIO-to-D-SUB15 reduction cable, which it requires for connection. In case of strong interest, the prices may be lowered. The ones above would be valid for a suggested amount of 10 units. Please let me know what version would you be interested in and what price would you consider acceptable. Prices mentioned do not include postal charges.

I just couldn't resist fixing the palette.. :-)

Hi Albert, Thanks for the announcement but I already announced this on the day of the release :-)

Hi all fans of the Atari music, 21 months since the last release, we're finally back with a new update, containing 308 new tunes. The archive now consists of 2843 songs, totalling 4 days, 22 hours, 10 minutes and 54.5 seconds of playing time. Lat but not least, the structure of the archive has been changed for simplicity and well-arrangement. Have a nice time with listening to ASMA! Download at http://asma.atari.org
