Tetris programs for Atari 800 question
pseudografx replied to atx4us's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
NRV, Can you please tell me how to actually load this file? I tried loading the file using Kboot and MyDos with Atari800Win - OS/B and OS/XL modes. But, I must be doing something wrong because it's still not working. Rename the file to *.xex, then it should work fine. -
I'd rather go the SDrive or SIO2SD route, which saves you from having a PC near your Atari. You can even take your Atari stuff to a friend or a party and still load all the software. Here's some info: http://raster.infos.cz/atari/hw/sdrive/sdriveen.htm

I think there is no automated way. You can use SID2MIDI to get the notes, but you still have to manually rewrite them into RMT. A converter could be made for some tunes, if you have them in their original form, ie. DMC, TFX, etc.

There are also some titles in development, namely: IK+ - http://www.uce.pl/ikplus/otherplatforms.html Yie Ar Kung-Fu - http://atari.fandal.cz/detail.php?files_id=3447

Recordings, please! :-) -
NTSC version of the palette is here. Sorry for the delay :-) OlivierNTSC.zip

I hope to see a fix for the bug regarding not remembering palette options (i.e. saturation, brightness adjustments etc.) after exiting and reopening the emulator :-)

Nice little code :-) I hope to see the continuing development of this promising project. Feel free to contact me for more graphics :-)

It's just a mock-up screen drawn in Paint Shop Pro. Though I had plans to make it real Actually I have a folder full of such fake screenshots

I didn't want to make it smoother, I even think it is too smooth anyway . This is "geometrical" design, not suposed to be shadowed. Ah, all right then :-)

I tried to create a title screen fits blue-style of Isaac's game long time ago. I can also prepare a new ingame board design with the same style (blue theme, white fonts, small rectangles in background) but is seems that a game is not developed any more . If someone would like to get the design I'm open for an cooperation (obviously the title can be changed into correct one). Nice title screen, though I have a tip for you: Why not create the top and bottom bars using GTIA mode? That would make the transition smoother. I'm also adding my older design of a sudoku layout

You just desperately refuse to admit that the Atari version of the table looks better; there's no other explanation why would you use Turrican as argument. I never said that this Ping Pong game on atari would look better than any other game on the C64.

Nice pictures, rich colors. That clearly shows how A8's various colors can be used to make scene more alive. yeah, luckily its the rainbow scene, even a 2600 would cope with it better then a c64 I don't see a problem with this, as far as the scene looks overall better. Compared to it, the C64 screen looks like a poor relative. Of course the colour attributes add quite some nice possibilities to colouring an image (and I really wish atari had this feature), but you're still heavily restricted by the limited palette, while Atari is not. that c64 screen is ~20 years old. I could similarly pick a 20 year old a8 screen and compare to something done today on the c64... whats the use of a palette you can not display in regular modes. its a bad engineering compromise not an advantage. But as I already said, you could hardly make it look much better than that. Perhaps you could use some hi-res optimization, but the colours would still be flat.

One more colour "skin" :-)

Now with no hi-res at all, and also in more colour versions:

Thanks for the compliments I'm not too sure about the usage of sprites in the hi-res part, however since the paddle would overlap the letters on the back barrier (see the c64 screenshot), it would have to be done in 160 pixel resolution anyway, otherwise the letters would overlap the paddle (since PMG cannot be in front of graphics in hi-res mode).

This is what I came up with from your source. IMHO the C64 version looks almost funny in comparison. Of course, these two pictures are 20 years apart but in any case, the C64 screen can't look much better than that. Atari C64 My version is just a mock-up of course, but it is designed with the respective restrictions in mind.

Mega Man clone on the 8-bit: Is it possible?
pseudografx replied to ApolloBoy's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
In my opinion this kind of game should be possible on the atari, with extensive use of software sprites, like in One Moon and Two Suns (WIP, see ) project. With smaller sized sprites it might even run in 160x200, plus, there is always an option to reduce fps to 25/30 while still maintaining smooth enough action. -
Why not do the middle part with text in 160 pixel resolution? that would make the letters sharper.
-
Tell you what, i'll do it when the people talking about how they could do Turrican on the A8 are finished... I think Turrican with so many moving objects on the screen would only be possible on Atari if fewer colours and lower resolution were used (like 160x120x5 colours). Otherwise the framerate would have to be heavily decreased (like every third or even fourth frame). That might still make the game nice to play but the visual quality would be nowhere near the c64 version (especially if no memory expansion was used). And I'm saying this as an all-time Atari fan.

Shouldn't this start a new thread "Breadboard on Atari"? Anyway, this new approach is really revolutionary!

You should really try to browse through the archive at http://asma.atari.org/ Greg's real name is Grzegorz Kwiatek.
