  1. Ah, this is the shit I get only by talking to actual French people. Brilliant. Yeah I was confused as to why a past participle was used in a future tense sentence, but it must be similar to something along the lines of "when I have graduated"?
  2. Ah, cette première erreur est un (however you say typo in French), ce n'est pas un faute dans mon français (dare I say so while I'm sure I’m making lots of more mistakes as I write this) Mais pourquoi dit-on "diplômé" ?
  3. C'est vrai... Mais j'aime cette langue et je veux apprendre. Je vais au lycée des langues étrangères en Corée, donc j'apprends rapidement. J'espère que français sera bon quand je serai diplôme. This is my limit as of now… I’m limited by vocabulary (and grammar albeit to a slightly lesser extent) on what I can explain, and I hope I didn’t make too many errors. I’ll come back from time to time as I get better at this language
  4. Hm, now that you mention it, I’ve never actually tried powering the system on without the Gamepad in the first place. The error appears whenever I disconnect the Gamepad while both are still up and running. Mine’s a Japanese black 32GB model, so it could be a regional difference too. I’ll check when I find the time to do so.
  5. Je parle un peu de français. J’apprends cette langue depuis quelque mois, et je peux comprendre peut-être 90% des choses écrites ici. Mais je suis encore très mauvais à l'écrit. Enchanté !
  6. Yes, and quite literally everyone who you have encountered has told you that all the points you are making are either irrelevant or untrue. Contrary to what I must look like right now, I’m not really a Nintendo fanboy nor do I possess a particularly strong love for the Wii U. I’m merely trying to explain to you that your seeming distaste for the Gamepad is illogical. It appears to me that your two biggest gripes is that the controller is large and you’re too old to read small text. I’ve spent the greater part of 2021 playing an hour of Breath of the Wild every day on my Wii U Gamepad, and I don’t remember even once wishing that the controller was smaller. It’s large, yes, but that merely makes it very comfortable to hold. You will rarely run into scenarios where you are required to read small text on the Gamepad. Most games either feature a graphics based UI or little of anything at all on the Gamepad screen (which is, as you pointed out, quite large). Everything else will be on your television. As I have asked multiple times, how does the commercial failure of a system or the marketing blunders of it affect you as an end user in any way? This point you seem to be trying to make is irrelevant. Just for you, I powered up my Wii U and for the first time in ages actually connected my Wiimotes to the thing. I can indeed confirm that you do not need to use the Gamepad at all to operate the system should you want to use the thing exclusively as an HD Wii. However, no, you cannot disconnect the Gamepad and toss it in a drawer. It has to be on and connected to the system or the console will throw you an error message. At this point, I believe that I (and many others) have made it quite clear that you have little logical reason to shy away from the Wii U because of its controller. I really don’t know what else to tell you.
  7. It's not as if you're gonna need any more than 2TB either. My setup is very spartan with 32GB internal storage plus a 16GB thumb drive and it's just about enough to store the essentials. I would reckon that, unless you're one of those people who prefer to hoard as many games as possible, 256GB at most should be plenty.
  8. There’s also the fact that the only thing you need to grab whenever you want to play is the Gamepad, no need to fumble with your TV remote as well to turn the TV on and whatnot. I use the remote function all the time.
  9. I’m really not trying to come as offensive, but I still don’t get your reasoning. The Wii U’s failure is due to a multitude of mistakes and failures by Nintendo, and I would argue that the design and especially the actual functionality of the Gamepad plays a minor part at best. The commercial failure of a console hardly means that its controller was objectively bad in any way. If you yourself believe that your opinion is based on those of the general public who are merely making comments from its visual appearance, I’m not sure where your displeasure towards the controller is exactly stemming from. As many others have pointed out, the standard Wiimote is compatible with the Wii U. You can still use it to play Wii games. In fact, you have to use it to play Wii games. You aren’t gonna be swinging the Gamepad, it doesn’t work that way. Even without everything I’ve mentioned, what’s the point of moaning and complaining about the Gamepad? If you don’t understand the point of it, you either try it for yourself or you don’t. You have been given all the answers you need to make the decision.
  10. I still don’t quite understand what it is that you are having a problem with. So the controller has a screen. I can see someone considering it weird at first glance, but I find it odd that someone who has never used one feels such a passionate revulsion towards it that it prevents him from buying the system. Ha, this is actually the most accurate description of the Gamepad I’ve heard… Yeah both controllers are fat and huge but are immensely comfortable to hold. The only downside is that the Gamepad is significantly heavier; it’s gets tiring if you’re holding it with no support (such as a desk to lay your arms on) for more than an hour. You definitely wouldn’t want to drop this thing on your face when playing while lying down.
  11. As a casual user, personally I would recommend the C128 if it weren’t for the terrible keyboard it came with (whoever thinks otherwise is lying). The manual is bland and boring, but it’s thorough and informative. The C128 came built in with a sprite editor and the HELP key is somewhat useful in finding typos and whatnot in case you don’t feel like doing manual labor. BASIC 7’s additional disk commands and fast disk access with the 1571 are highly convenient as well. BASIC 7 also includes a machine language monitor, although I’m not sure how useful this would be to you. The biggest downside to the C128 (and 1571) is the cost. They’re expensive beasts. An affordable alternative is an Extended Color Basic CoCo as others have mentioned. A 64K ECB CoCo 2 is dirt cheap, and it’s also trivial to upgrade a 16K machine to 64K should you acquire one instead. ECB is fun to use and has graphics and sound commands along with a fairly convenient screen editor. The manual is, as previously mentioned, fun enough to read but I didn’t find it as thorough as the C128’s. However, one thing to keep in mind is that this was designed as a low cost computer and mainly uses cassette storage and exclusively RF output. Disk drives are expensive and composite mods are cumbersome. Of course, these aren’t really issues if you’re planning on using an emulator. The VIC-20 and C64 aren’t so bad for learning BASIC. I personally developed a certain fondness for POKE commands as I figured my way through 6502 machine language. However, I would try to stay away from the VIC-20 for its 22 column screen which can’t quite fit its own disk directory.
  12. You have the power supply, cords, and a setup that already has another SMS console and yet this is untested?
  13. Been learning French lately, and I can indeed confirm that French is the most French language I’ve ever dealt with.

I believe it should be “vrai” no? I can’t find anything plural in what I said.

Or maybe I’m still rubbish at French and I’m missing something.

Oops!   Off the cuff response...Not been in a French class since '93 (?)...Merde!

  14. The original save battery in my Zelda 1 cart finally passed away today. It outlived its expiration date by a whopping 34 years.

Nintendo said they only last for rive years but they actually last for way longer...

I wonder what type of batteries they used?  Must be a very good brand.

Doesn't it depend on if you use it daily, or just passively let it rest? I seem to recall that the AA type batteries in my first Casio calculator also lasted for quite a while, mostly by not using it for years.

Perhaps, but in the opposite way from what you're thinking. Your calculator battery probably lasted many years because the battery was quite literally not being used when the calculator was off. The save battery is however perpetually wired to the save RAM circuitry so that, you know, it can keep the data alive. I'm thinking that maybe Nintendo could have wired it up so that it doesn't consume battery juice when the system is on (and therefore can keep the RAM chips alive by itself), but even so, it would mean that frequent use would extend the battery's life, not shorten it.

  15. Or perhaps you could ignore this clown and get on with it. There is little point in attempting to sell stuff here with those prices, yes, but I hardly see the reasoning behind constantly harassing this guy for it.
  16. I’ve read All Quiet on the Western Front from beginning to end the past 3 days. Certainly a depressing piece of literature. I’m genuinely curious how this could possibly have been adapted into a good movie.

Congrats.  I've never read it.  It is often regarded as the finest piece of anti-war literature ever written.  I think they must have been working on the recent Netflix movie before the war in Ukraine and Germany's new increased spending on defense, but I find that the release of the film is particularly well timed.

I've read "A Farewell to Arms", but I'm not sure about "All Quiet on the Western Front".

Definitely go read Iron Coffins and The Forgotten Soldier. I have been meaning to read Das Boot as well; maybe I will do that next.

  17. I would be inclined to use the word “hoarding” when one is simply randomly buying stuff they have little use for.
  18. This is a bit of a long story, but I’ve ended up in a situation where I need to produce a 5 page essay on France, a 2 page essay about my future, and two book reports, 5 pages each. This is gonna be a major pain in the arse.

Have you read the books? Take the available amount of time, divide it up by the number of essays/reports, and set time limits to get each one done. If you have additional time after getting a first draft of each done, then divide that time up to go back and polish each one.

Does ChatGPT work in Korean, or are you doing it in English? :)

Thanks for the great (and also sneaky) advice, folks. I have nearly two months to get it all done, so I’ll work my way through all of it through winter break. I have a French friend whom I can consult should I feel it necessary to do so. ChatGPT is totally capable of speaking Korean, but it simply can’t generate enough text to be helpful in any significant way.

Regarding the book reports, the two books need to be selected from a list of 20, my favorite two being All Quiet on the Western Front and Lord of the Flies. I’ll have to read them whenever I find the time, although I’m not yet entirely sure if I’d be able to generate five pages’ worth of text out of either.

  19. There isn’t much reason for AtariAge to have a Mac subforum when an already established Mac forum such as 68kmla.org already exists. But if you really feel like you need to post in AtariAge, you can post here in this subforum.
  20. This could be of some use to me. I’ll shoot you a DM in a sec.
  21. Interesting, I found the C128’s keyboard to be godawful. In fact, it’s my least favorite “proper” keyboard that I have ever typed on. The keys were very spring and mushy and the weird offset of the key rows results in many typos. Of course, this is entirely subjective, but still, I wouldn’t recommend buying a C128 for its keyboard.
  22. Yeah-- it's not spectacular that it only has one (sort of) save slot while every other game in the series that I can think of has at least three. I get around this by using a homebrew save manager on my modded Switch but it isn't an elegant solution. The DLC is optional, yes, but it adds enough new content to spice things up; especially if the game is starting to feel a bit old. I'm personally not a fan of the Trial of the Sword stuff, but I suppose it isn't particularly bad either. The Champion's Ballad was much more interesting to me, as it adds more to the story as well as new shrines and quests to complete (and also features some new music which I love). Also, Master Mode's saves are independent from Normal Mode (I think), so it can serve as a way to start the game over without giving up your old save. It's annoying at first as monsters take forever to die with the rubbish weapons you find at the Great Plateau, but once you get going it's a lot more exciting that Normal Mode. I started Breath of the Wild on Wii U but finished it on the Switch. I've, since then, spent many hours exploring Hyrule, constantly discovering new things to do and plants to eat. I thoroughly enjoyed the game, but am curious as to how Tears of the Kingdom could create its own identity as opposed to being another Breath of the Wild but with flying rocks. I'm most definitely looking forward to checking it out once it releases.
  23. All chips can be wired to the same data bus, but since some arduino models have so many data pins I suppose you could wire them separately if you wish. I took a look at the datasheet for the AY-3-8910 and it appears that it uses BDIR, BC1, and BC2 to enable and control the bus; since there’s no dedicated enable pin on the chip you might as well just wire them together into one data bus for simplicity’s sake. I recommend you study the datasheets for the sound generators you want to use; they will tell you what you need to do with them. Best of luck.
  24. Not sure how I feel about this new title. Sounds almost as bad as Breath of the Wild. What are you guys gonna do first when you get your hands on the game?
  25. There, I did it. I beat Dungeons of Daggorath.
